Maclean Pump Station: grafitti vandal failed in his/her aim "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Clarence Valley Independent, 7 June 2023:

Artist Austin NITSUA with the new mural of Yaegl elder Uncle Ron Herron on the River Street pump station in Maclean. Image: Rodney Stevens

When artist Austin NITSUA got word that his stunning portrait of Yaegl elder Uncle Ron Herron that he painted on a River Street Maclean pump station had been graffitied with light coloured paint in August last year he was gutted.

The street artist and mural creator, who has painted his distinctive illustrations all over Australia, from Byron Bay to giant examples of silo art in South Australia, said he was ready to repaint the mural the week after it was defaced, but the development application process through council delayed progress.

396. Landing at Sydney Airport (video) "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

<p style="padding-left: 60px; padding-right: 60px;"><em>I took this video of the approach to landing in Sydney in May, and it worked out so beautifully that I thought it was worth sharing.</em></p> <p>It was late afternoon, and the soft evening light is fantastic. As the video starts, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House are in the centre of the frame, with the central city on the right. The view is absolutely stunning, including dramatic clouds and some rain in the distance, though the foreground is sunny. We pass islands and yachts on the harbour, a bridge, houses, roads, a very pointy church spire, train lines, commercial buildings, shipping containers, and a canal before reaching the airport. Unfortunately, the video doesnt catch the message painted on almost the last roof before we reached the airport fence, saying Welcome to Perth!</p> <p>From about the 1:50 mark, you can see the shadow of the plane sliding across buildings in the distance, and it gives you a great impression of how low in the sky the sun was. POEM: Fossil fools "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

POEM: Fossil fools

This poem is an *IA Writing Competition (fiction category) entry.

FOSSIL FOOLS

half a century ago it was called global warming
yet all the ifs, buts and maybes disguised the dire warning so life carried on, but the scientists persisted
their language grew stronger as they all insisted the icebergs were melting, the planet was heating
more droughts, floods and bushfires called for more than just meetings

the schoolkids knew that
their future looked bleak they refused to be silent
were determined to speak

urgent action was needed, it had to be fast
this addiction to coal could no longer last
but the fossil fuel barons of gas and of coal
had the ears of the pollies had captured their soul
(which just showed their stupidity
cos theyve kicked an own goal!)

and not only them, our governments too
were wooed by the money
when really they knew
the world had moved on
that coal and gas mining
belonged in the past
it was time they were gone

but Abbott and Dutton, and Marketing Scott
were unable to change and untie the knot
dinosaurs all, they are decades behind
still bound to an industry that will shortly find
that pollution and poison, and corruption and greed
just wounds Mother Earth
only see how she bleeds

but the election last year raised the stakes for more action
more colours in parliament independent of factions
means its Greens to the rescue
along with Independents and Teals
and our futures relying on the execution of deals
that will help heal our planet, that place we call home
to avoid a disaster like the burning of Rome

but its seconds to midnight, is there enough time
to halt further destruction
halt more government crime
so, Tanya and Albo
please listen and act
in the interests of people
or next time youre sacked!

POEM: The pragmatic romancer meets the grinning taboo "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

POEM: The pragmatic romancer meets the grinning taboo

This poem is an *IA Writing Competition (fiction category) entry.

THE PRAGMATIC ROMANCER MEETS THE GRINNING TABOO

Im dirty on words that lie as theyre spoke
They make subtle feelings an elaborate joke.
(I think its a farce ... hope itll pass),
But can we converse
Without a curse or being terse
A fireside chat that perhaps is in verse?

Im on the quest of a good idea;
Shadowed by the unknown fear
That paces with stumble and stride,
And manifests wherever I hide my pride.
Yet the quest earns a passion
And a prize that comes crashin every time it glides within reach.
Id sooner eat a peach
Than waste my time in reason and rhyme
Then see it accused of some Freudian crime.

I been here an there an seen my share
Of whacky human schemes;
But I got a dream (thats yet to be seen)
And a way to find the means.
Were youngsters yet, an we cant be impatient
To rip a hole in the can;
Our ears are still wet of what is latent
In the space between a woman an man.

So... such vague ideal may seem unreal
To one locked in carnal dreams...
But Im bettin that you know whats true
Like, things just aint what they seems.

You an me, if Im guessin right,
Have a muddlesome beast of a brain.
Our lifes a struggle ... some call it a plight
We know the meaning of pain.

(Now dont make derision, its not your decision
To be a judge of my condition.
For me its all a part of a bigger, better Plan.
Where living is seen as a Work of Art
So we do it as best as we can).

Still, I implore, dont get lost in my poetic bent
Theres more to be said for altruistic intent...
And, if you are so inclined you might consider this existential;
But let me remind that labels are blind
When they hide untried potential.

            They devise and divide on a variety of bases;
Giving rise to creeds and races
          &nbs...

Whistleblowers crucial in exposing truth in Roberts-Smith trial "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Whistleblowers crucial in exposing truth in Roberts-Smith trial

Whistleblowers understand networks. Whistleblowers are scapegoated by them. When whistleblowers prevail, it is often because one network takes on another. The case of Ben Roberts-Smith is such a case.

Truth is the bystander.

War legitimises murder. When I first read my grandfathers diary from the Western Front in World War I, I read of an implied legitimacy to kill or be killed. They were not war criminals, but they still engaged in murder. The real criminals were those who had authorised the war.

The orchestrators of war rarely fire a shot; and more rarely are they prosecuted for their crimes. Take for example the case of Henry Kissinger who recently celebrated his 100th birthday. Kissinger is widely regarded as a war criminal. He advised Nixon to bomb Cambodia, leading to the dissolution of that country and to the rise of the Khmer Rouge. Kissinger was responsible for more civilian deaths in Cambodia than previously known, according to an archive of U.S. military documents and interviews with Cambodian survivors.

Kissinger bears significant responsibility for the attacks in Cambodia that killed as many as 150,000 civilians. Kissingers crimes did not stop there. He derailed the Vietnamese peace talks in 1972 to help Nixon get re-elected, only to accept the Nobel Peace Prize for himself in 1973.

He played a significant role in the coup against Salvador Allende in 1973, he underwrote the genocide of the Kurds, he interfered in Angola. He was a master war criminal who was never prosecuted. In 1974, journalist Ted Koppel described Kissinger as the most admired man in America. Journalists could not see through...

Ich verfolge Apple-Ankndigungen normalerweise nicht, ... "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

Die GPL funktioniert also!

Songlines imagery of the Gumbaynggirr, Yaegl and Bundjalung nations installed along the Pacific Highway from Woolgoolga to Ballina "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

The Echo, 9 June 2023:

Aboriginal artworks have been installed at nine overpass bridges spanning four lanes on the new Pacific Motorway between Woolgoolga and Ballina on the north coast of New South Wales.

The new artworks along the Woolgoolga to Ballina Aboriginal Art Trail depict the creation stories and ancient travel routes (Songlines) of the Aboriginal nations of the region.

The Woolgoolga to Ballina Aboriginal Art Trail is part of the Pacific Highway upgrade project which also included upgrading nine interchanges, more than 170 bridges and more than 350 other connecting roads.

Federal Member for Richmond Justine Elliot says the artworks tell the Songlines of the Gumbaynggirr, Yaegl and Bundjalung nations, reflecting their physical and spiritual belonging, and connection to Country. The artworks are in place on nine highway overpasses, along a 155-kilometre section of highway between Woolgoolga and Ballina.

The artists were selected...

User reviews useless compared to tech reviews, eg. Western Digital SN350 "IndyWatch Feed National"

MANY people base their purchase decision on consumers opinions, where in reality there is zero way of knowing whether or not they are fake.

The mainstream media jumps on this as well, using this as a huge promotional point, in their click bait advertising model.

One of the worst places an electronics consumer could go for advice is to a mainstream media news site, for example Rupert Murdochs news empire from some tech flog using a pseudonym, trying to convince you that Apples newest features are worthy of your attention or most importantly your hard earned dollars, in these times of government created austerity.

Even a websites so called reviews on a particular piece of electronics equipment would not be the best place for reference.

They could be false, they could be bots or even the company's webmaster faking reviews on the orders of the CEO.

In this instance the under the spotlight is a SSD (Sold State Drive) from WD (Western Digital), in particular the SN350 model range.

From the reviews of a tech warehouse one would be of the belief that this is a great product to purchase.

Even from another tech warehouse that touts itself as ...

Are We Back to Nuclear Brinkmanship for Good? "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Its not just Putin who has re-embraced nuclear threats. The U.S. and China are also cracking open the door.

By Michael Hirsh, a columnist for Foreign Policy.  https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/06/09/nuclear-brinksmanship-arms-control-jake-sullivan-putin-china-russia/

Sixty years ago this week, U.S. President John F. Kennedy gave a speech at American University that transformed the nature of the Cold War, turning the insanity of nuclear brinkmanship into the relative safety of negotiation. Coming just eight months after the Cuban Missile Crisis brought the world harrowingly close to armageddon, Kennedy noted the ironic but accurate fact that the two strongest powers [on earth] are the two in the most danger of devastation.

That, he said, had to stopnot to achieve some infinite concept of universal peace and goodwill but rather to secure a more practical, more attainable peace.

In an act of political courage for the time, Kennedy then delivered a unilateral concession to Moscow, saying the United States does not propose to conduct nuclear tests in the atmosphere so long as other states do not do so.

Astonishingly, given the hostility between the United States and the Soviet Union, the Soviet government broadcast Kennedys June 10, 1963, address in its entirety, and it was published by the Soviet newspapers Izvestia and Pravda. On July 25, 1963, after only 12 days of negotiations, a nuclear test ban treaty was signed.

Where is the political courage of yesteryear?

In a speech at the Arms Control Associations annual conference on June 2, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan took a very different tack. Sullivan signaledthough he likely didnt intend tothat there is little hope for restraining the threat of nuclear war in the foreseeable future. Sullivan conceded that there was no meaningful U.S. communication with either Russia or China, that Washington was engaging in tit-for-tat reprisals against Moscow by suspending day-to-day missile operations notification, and that the United States would continue to push for military dominance over both Russia and China for de...

Patrick Lawrence: Neo-Nazis in Ukraine? No, Yes, NoYes "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Stepan Bandera torchlight parade in Kiev, Jan. 1, 2020. (A1/Wikimedia Commons)

As is well-known and documented, the neoNazis who infest the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the AFU among many other national institutions have made idols of such figures as Stepan Bandera, the freakishly murderous nationalist who allied with the Nazi regime during the war.

New York Times reporters job this week is to persuade us that all those Ukrainian soldiers wearing Nazi insignia and marching through Kiev in Klan-like torch parades are not what you think.

June 7, 2023, By Patrick Lawrence, Original to ScheerPost

I tell you, serving as a New York Times correspondent these days cannot be easy.

You have to convey utter nonsense to your readers while maintaining a straight face and a serious demeanor.

You have to suggest the Russians may have exploded a drone over the Kremlin, that they may have blown up their own gas pipeline, that their president is an out-of-touch psychotic, that their soldiers in Ukraine are drunkards using faulty equipment, that they attack with human hordes (Orientalism, anyone?) and on and on all the while affecting the gravitas once associated with the traditional Timesman. You try it sometime.

.. now we have the case of Thomas GibbonsNeff, a square-jawed former Marine covering the Ukraine war for the Times  strictly to the extent the Kyiv regime permits him to do so, as he explains with admirable honesty. This guy is serious times 10, he and his newspaper want us to know.

Toms job this week is to persuade us that all those Ukrainian soldiers wearing Nazi insignia, idolizing Jew-murdering, Russophobic collaborators with the Third Reich, gathering ritually in Nazi-inspired cabals, marching through Kyiv in Klan-like torch parades are not what you think.

Nah, our Tom tells us. They look like neoNazis, they act like neoNazis, they dress like neoNazis, they profess Fascist and neoNazi ideologies, they wage this war with the Wehrmachts visceral hatred of Russians O.K., but whyever would you think they are neoNazis?

They are just regular guys. They wear the Wolfsangel, the ...

Kievs Long Term Plans To Blow Up The Kakhovka Dam "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

June 6, 2023   by Ral Ilargi Meijer  https://www.theautomaticearth.com/2023/06/kievs-long-term-plans-to-blow-up-the-kakhovka-dam/

I had some discussion with Andrew about this article, since the December 2022 WaPo article he refers to was not the first time Kievs plans to blow up the dam were mentioned. There was this, for instance, 2 months earlier. Then again, Andrew is right in saying that the WaPo piece is the first where people other than Zelensky mention it. And we agree that now blaming the attack on Russia is really out of left field. Those darn Russkies keep on aiming for their own feet. And thats the only thing(s) they can hit.

Andrew Korybko:

The partial destruction of the Kakhovka Dam on early Tuesday morning saw Kiev and Moscow exchange accusations about whos to blame, but a report from the Washington Post (WaPo) in late December extends credence to the "https://web.archive.org/web/20221229064018/https:/www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/12/29/ukraine-offensive-kharkiv-kherson-donetsk/">Inside the Ukrainian counteroffensive that shocked Putin and reshaped the war, its journalists quoted former commander of Novembers Kherson Counteroffensive Major General Andrey Kovalchuk who shockingly admitted to planning this war crime:

Kovalchuk considered flooding the river. The Ukrainians, he said, even conducted a test strike with a HIMARS launcher on one of the floodgates at the Nova Kakhovka dam, making three holes in the metal to see if the Dniepers water could be raised enough to stymie Russian crossings but not flood nearby villages. The test was a success, Kovalchuk said, but the step remained a last resort. He held off.

His remark about how the step remained a last resort is pertinent to recall at present considering that the first phase of Kievs NATO...

Mastering 100+ recipes: Easier than it sounds

This week Megan Jane de Paulo, creator of culinary delights and collector of recipes, lifts the lid on two of her most asked-for "how-tos" gravy and poached eggs!

IVE BEEN WORKING on something I hope will be just the first instalment of a range of volumes of recipes and techniques Ive collected over a few decades of cooking: 'The Culinary Canon, Volume 1, Edition 1'. (This Ebook will be available online soon, with Kindle and print editions available shortly from Amazon.)

This first recipe collection focuses on some basic foundation cooking  with clear instructions and some science thrown in, and hopefully written in a style to pique your interest.

Two of the "how-tos" Im most asked for are gravy and poached eggs!

Gravy

I didnt think Id manage to work in a "Nanna cooking story", but in true reality-TV cooking show/blogger fashion, I can when it comes to gravy.

"Instant gravy" didnt exist in my world until I worked at a caf that used it and I can still smell that chemical-to-me stench  and remember scraping the dried stuff off the bain marie pan.

I remember Nanna, on those special roast dinner days, flinging the roasting pan on top of the stove, adding flour and stirring like a whirling dervish, then adding hot water until the creative completion of the magical sauce we eagerly grabbed to drown our roasted carrots and limp cabbage. (Cabbage was boiled to a point no one could enjoy; carrots were roasted despite protestations of liking them raw.)

I was born in the era of having dinner dumped on your head if you didnt eat it so that gravy was my saviour.

Texas Bans Drag Queen Story Time, Unleashes Winnie The Pooh To Fight School Shooters "IndyWatch Feed National"

Thank God for lawmakers in Texas. Not only have they stepped in to save little children from the clutches of evil drag queens, but theyre almost certainly going to turn their attention to new legislation to save kiddies from school shooters. Soon. Ish. Probably.

During the most recent session of Texas parliament, which ended last week, Republican politicians found time to pass a literal suite of new bills targetting LGBTQ Texans, including ending public funding for libraries that host drag queen story times. Because, you know, its anyones guess how many Texan children have died during a bawdy reading of Spot The Dog.

Unfortunately, the Texas legislature ran out of time this parliamentary session to pass any new gun safety laws turns out its a complicated business not infringing on the second amendment rights of well-armed militias. And given Texas Parliament only meets once every two years, January 2025 will be the earliest Texans can expect any new legislation to try and curb the ever-growing violence in Texas streets and shopping malls.

On the good news front, at least some Texan parents can feel a little more confident about getting their little ones home from school after families in the Dallas area last week received free copies of Stay Safe: Run, Hide, Fight, an exciting new childrens book that helps teach kids the best way to survive a mass school shooting.

If there is danger, let Winnie-the-Pooh and his crew show you what to do! promises the book.

If there is danger and it is safe to get away we should RUN like Rabbit instead of stay.

Help friends that need it, but we cant quit until we are safe with a teacher or the police.

If danger is near, do not fear.
HIDE like Pooh does until the police appear.
Doors should be locked, the passage blocked and lights turned off.
We should all hide without making a sound in a place where we cannot be found.
If we have a cell phone it should be in silent zone.

Lets recap a simple timeline of events. That will give us a baseline for considering the more technical aspects of the bailout, and some of the corruption going on behind the scenes. Put on your crash helmets. Youre going to need them.

The chronology of a collapse

The SVB collapse is, in some ways, the bitter fruit of eight years of zero interest rates (20082015) under Ben Bernanke and Janet Yellen. That zero-interest rate policy and the accompanying US$4 trillion of quantitative easing (QE1, QE2, QE3, and so on) created an age in which investors were forced to channel savings into riskier assets such as stocks, real estate, and emerging markets in a chase for yield.

Those asset bubbles were amplified with borrowed money in the form of carry trades and derivatives. No one cared about the potential for higher interest rates and monetary tightening. That seemed to be off the table. Investors were driven by TINA (There is No Alternative) and FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

A narrower timeline would begin in November 2021. Two critical events happened that month. The first is that Fed Chair Jay Powell threw in the towel on his view that inflation was transitory. Powell made it clear that inflation was a real threat, and that the Fed would soon be taking steps to stop it. A few months later, in March 2022, Powell began a series of nine interest rate hikes, which continue today.

The second event, perhaps not coincidentally coinciding with the first, is that Bitcoin [BTC] began to crash from an all-time high of US$68,990 to US$15,480 in November 2022 a 78% crash in one year that started what crypto cultists call the Crypto Winter. This crypto crash has direct connections to the SVB collapse, which we explain below.

While December 2008 and November 2021 are both good starting points for our story, the day-by-day chronology specific to SVB really begins on 27 February 2023, when the SVB CEO dumped US$3.5 million of SVB stock. On the same day, the banks CFO dumped US$575,000 in the banks stock. Both executives claim these sales were pursuant to pre-announced programs allowed by the SEC.

Still, SVBs unrealised losses (unknown to the public) date back years, so the programmed selling may itself have been a cover for what they both knew was coming. The SVB stock price at the time of those sales was about US$290 per share. Today it is worthless. The insiders got out in time.

Remember the debt ratings agencies?

On 1 March 2023, rating agency Moodys called SVB management to tell them that Moodys was considering downgrading the credit rating of the bank. This set off alarm bells inside SVB. Management knew that a credit downgrade might start a flood of deposit withdrawals and a crash in the stock price. The CEO, Greg Becker, immediately called Goldman Sachs to work out...

How Australia learned to stop worrying and love nuclear "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

It may not yet have dawned on Australia, but the rest of the world is waking up to the threat of net zero policies. At our recent editorial meeting in Melbourne, I was shocked to discover just how far behind Australia is on this awakening.

Almost all media coverage in Europe and the US is already highly critical of net zero. Even the politicians have woken up.

In Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a halt on new green legislation coming out of the EU.

Germany successfully torpedoed the EUs attempt to ban combustion engine cars.

In the UK, some councils are refusing to cooperate with the governments demands to impose net zero policies.

Net zero is so unpopular in the UK that politicians are using it as a punching bag for all sorts of barely related shortcomings. For example, one minister is blaming her inability to carry out Brexit reforms on the constraints imposed by the emissions commitment.

Companies worldwide are also turning their backs on net zero at an increasing pace. Seven insurance companies have quit the Net-Zero Insurance Alliance a part of the powerful group called the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero which pressures financial industries into adopting net zero policies.

Even the only remaining cheerleaders for net zero journalists are having second thoughts. The Financial Times covered the staggering cost of a green hydrogen economy.

Financial markets cottoned on to this shift first. Green energy stocks plunged in 2022 and clean energy tech companies favourite bank in California went bust in 2023

Just when an energy crisis was supposed to prove renewable energys credentials and capabilities, the world concluded the precise opposite. It turned to coal instead.

While Australia still grapples with the impossible implications of net zero, the rest of the world is already moving on to pondering solutions instead. And, as slowly as humanly possible, theyre reaching the painlessly obvious solution: nuclear power.

In October 2021, the UKs Independent Review of Net Zero report commissioned by the government concluded that nuclear power is a no-regrets option for the UK.

In April 2022, the UK government outlined its plans for nuclear power. These include building eight new reactors plus smaller modular reactors, set to provide 25% of the UKs electricity demand by 2050.

In Japan, utility companies are applying for 27 reactor restarts, with 17 passing safety checks and 10 resuming operations.

In South Koreas March 2022 presidential elections, a pro-nuclear candidate defeated an anti-nuclear incumbent who planned to phase out nuclear power.

The countrys 26 reactors produce about a quarter of its electricity, but the new president wants to increase this to at least a third. Plans include extending the life of existing reactors and building new ones.

Macron committed to building...

Gas contributes to Australia producing too much carbon "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Contributed by Ben Wilson

study published in the journal Earth System Science Data Shows that carbon is continuing to be spewed out into the atmosphere at a level that is leading the planet to catastrophe. Everyone knows that this must be turned around. Even the most hardened sceptics of the past are now aware of this.

Meanwhile, the gas lobby continues to spend millions to influence politicians and governments to act on their behalf. This is happening right here in Australia and its a disgrace. So is the claim coming from the industry and many politicians that gas is the clean alternative to dirty coal. This is a lie. They are both bad.

Despite this, billions continue to the dolled out to gas companies and Australias carbon footprint continues to rise.

Another lie is that the consumption of gas by Australians has levelled. This conveniently leaves out the fact that according to the governments own figures 74 percent of gas produced in Australia is exported. It still ends up creating emissions that go out into the same atmosphere. Australia remains a major polluter.

The lies are not washing with the public. This is why the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) is waging an advertising campaign to suggest differently. The second disgrace is that this is being allowed. Tobacco companies are not allowed under the law to campaign that smoking doesnt cause cancer. Why should it be any different for fossil fuel companies. Their product also kills.

Instead of being restricted, APPEA is free to subject Australia to a television and online barrage of deliberate misinformation.

A standout example of misinformation is the claim that an International Energy Agency report on gas and a 2017 report on the future of the electricity market from former chief scientist Dr Alan Finkel supports the claim that gas is 50 percent cleaner than coal, and that the rise in gas use is reducing Australias carbon footprint.

Wheels of fortune "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Wheels of fortune

This short story is an *IA Writing Competition (fiction category) entry.

WHEELS OF  FORTUNE

Everyone peered at the curve.

The nursery manager pointed at the curve.

The curve said it all.

He lectured:

"Its a disaster. You guys are flattening the wrong curve. We need to grow the numbers. Our sales are rooted."

Slightest of chuckles. Ever so slight, in fact.

"You know its the best soil in the state, not the Tanami Desert. We should be able to grow stuff. Sell stuff.

"Dont give me that shit about you all being in wheelchairs. We have to compete, compete, compete. Every second business around here is a bloody nursery and here we are with every staff member in a wheelchair trying to grow and sell plants to the able-bodied when they are getting the same or better up the road without having to bend over to hear your sales pitch.

"Weve got a month to turn the business around or we go into receivership. Now pump up your tyres and get out there and get innovative."

His face reddened.

"Otherwise, I might as well change the name of this nursery to Gardens Were Us. Now dont sit around all day... get off your ar..."

He paused.

"Well, dont sit around here..."

And on he went.

He waddled off to his office. He had a good heart, but these staff meetings didnt highlight his sensitive side. The concept of the business was so altruistic. Employment for the disabled and rely on the goodwill of the able public to support sales. All fine when the economy was ticking over, but the current recession meant people shopped with their feet above shopping with the wheelies.

The able-bodied manager waddled off to his office. The staff meeting had its usual impact. Long faces, sighs and complaints.

"Geez, he can be an arsehole. Sometimes I think we are just wheeling around in circles....

Old Heroes of a new age. "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Victory is ours!

The fields of Elysium lay spread before us,

We stride forward, you and I, with accomplished deeds,

We will take control of these fields as our prize,

The crown of conquering heroes shall be ours.

And though I know not your name,

Nor you know not mine, we march together,

In common age and dignity,

Leave the dying and debased to loot and rob,

The decaying ruins left on the field of battle,

THAT..is their only capacity, having stood idle,

While we battled all our lives for this day,

To have to endure their low mockery at our age,

THEY..who lack the skills and have not wit enough,

To even know when they should lay quietand listen!

So, we will ride away from their barbarian schemes,

Taking with us the prize of our wisdom and knowledge,

In silence shall we scorn and disdain their cries of assistance,

When they come with pitiful eyes and lost souls clamouring.

Their world of material hunger is not now our world,

We leave them to their grasping greed and detritus,

For we have left their dominion,

With our accrued age and knowing,

We will forge a new homeland, a new beginning,

To greet the sunrise and hail the evening,

With a light in our eyes and clarity of mind,

Would dazzle the brightest star in the galaxy,

Come now, my company of aged heroes..

The battle for our independence has been won,

Upon the Fields...

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Facing Extradition After Losing Challenge "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, is facing extradition from Britain to the United States after losing a challenge that would prevent that. Assange, who is wanted on 18 charges related to the release of confidential U.S. military records and diplomatic cables, will, however, renew his appeal next week according to a report by Reuters. The British High Court ruled that Assange had no legal grounds to challenge the extradition decision.

Previously, a British judge ruled against Assange's extradition, citing concerns about his mental health and the risk of suicide if held in a maximum security prison. However, the decision was overturned on appeal after the U.S. authorities provided assurances, including the possibility of transferring Assange to Australia to serve any sentence.

WikiLeaks gained prominence in 2010 for releasing classified files and diplomatic cables, marking one of the largest security breaches in U.S. military history. As a journalist, Assanges platform highlighted war crimes and incredible breaches of public trust by the U.S. military. His efforts to bring crimes and actions committed by the government to light have been met with furious retaliation despite the protections journalists should receive, even when reporting on sensitive information. To punish Assange for his work is to set the precedent that journalists who delve too deeply into government affairs will be made an example of.

Assange's case has drawn international attention and sparked debates regarding freedom of the press and the potential implications for whistleblowers. The renewed appeal next week will be a crucial moment in determining Assange's fate as he continues to fight against extradition to the United States.

The latest issue of Bitcoin Magazine Print is the Gatekeepers Issue, featuring Assange on the front. We lead the editorial of The Gatekeepers Issue with an open letter to Julian Assange titled Dear Julian, a download page for the cover story explains. In this piece, the author likens Assange's actions to those of ancient Greek Titan, Prometheus. To read the full story, you can input your email to receive a virtual copy of the open letter and to fully appreciate the Gatekeepers Issue, you can sign up for a subscription here

Leeton Memories concludes "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

The final instalment in Red Earth Ecology's Leeton Memories project brings together two prominent local women

Cynthia Arel has interpreted the recollections of Julie Maytom in a window display that captures elements from her childhood in Stanbridge and Parkview, as well as her passion for Fivebough Wetlands.

"My interests now include designing for theatre so I'm treating the display as a small set," said Mrs Arel.

"A lot of what I've included are scenes from nature and the social aspects that unite people.

"I made notes and focused on her early childhood, particularly the red dirt and when she talked about Parkview, like climbing trees in the scrubby setting prior to the School being built."

Viewers will be able to listen to Julie's memories via audio-streaming linked in the QR code shown in the window of the Leeton Community Op Shop.

"I thought I'd be working on it earlier this year, but I'm glad this exhibition came after a history unit that I recently completed.

"Memory is not exactly how it happened, so I'm layering old and new. I find it interesting to think how memory works, the way things that mightn't have been a great experience become lessons of resilience over time.

"Originally my intention was to use chronological layers, but that's not how memory works. Every time you revisit that memory, it changes a bit."

The interview with Julie was conducted by Kathy Tenison of Storymaster Audio and collected details from throughout her life, including the Carlton Cafe that was next door to the current display and significant as the location where she met Paul Maytom.

The Leeton Memories project was developed by Red Earth Ecology as a way of bringing colour to windows on the main street and to prompt discussion of change.

"We're stoked that Cynthia joined in and are very grateful to the team at the Op Shop for the chance to use their location and its visibility within town," said Jason Richardson.

"This project has been a wonderful way to get to know people, as well...

Lace up your skates, an ice skating rink is popping up in Ballarat this winter "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

After its enormous success in previous years, a popular ice skating rink is making a comeback to help you make the most of winter.

Armstrong Street South will be transformed into a winter wonderland from 24 June through to 16 July thanks to the team at Stars On Ice, giving locals and tourists alike the chance to skate along the ice, with or without a skating aid to keep you upright.

Heres where to go ice skating across the region

Returning as part of the Ballarat Winter Festival (alongside the famed Winter Wonderlights, Knights of Fire and more), there will be great tunes and disco lights in the all-weather marquee, as well as child-friendly, sensory sessions with no music or flashing lights and restricted numbers and disco sessions on Friday and Saturday nights.

There will also be Bollywood on Ice sessions featuring DJ Bobby M mixing the hottest Bollywood tunes, and Latin Fiesta on Ice sessions with Live DJ Vico mixing the hottest Latin tunes.

Theres really nothing like gliding elegantly over a brightly-lit smooth ice rink (when youre able to finally let go of the side barrier, of course!), and watching kids navigate their way around is classic entertainment.

So unless youve got plans to hit up the snowy mountains in the region, this is the next best thing (and entirely more affordable) you can get up to when it gets colder.

Go on, get your skates on because tickets are now on sale for Ballarats pop-up ice skating rink.

Ticket Pricing

  • Toddler (4 years and under) $9
  • Child (5 14 years) $12
  • Adult (15 plus years) $18
  • Family (two adults, two children or 1 adult, 3 children) $48
  • Groups (10 or more, all ages) $10 per person

It all goes down at Armstrong Street South, Ballarat Central from 24 June to 16 July 2023. Tickets are on sale now. You can find out more about the Ballarat Ice Rink here

Immerse yourself in a world of colour at the NGVs new winter exhibition Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

Bright colourful scenes have taken over the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) with the highly anticipated arrival of Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi, officially opening today, 9 June.

Making its world premiere, the exhibition presents more than 100 works by the leading French painter Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) and brings late 19th and early 20th century France to life through paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and decorative objects by Pierre Bonnard, shown alongside early cinema by the Lumire brothers, and artworks by Maurice Denis, Flix Vallotton and douard Vuillard, Bonnards early contemporaries.

Stay up to date with whats happening within the regions art scene here

Organised by the NGV in partnership with the Muse dOrsay, the exhibition presents Bonnards works within a bold and captivating scenography from international design icon and award-winning architect, India Mahdavi who will employ her designs with Bonnards distinct use of colour and texture.

Described by The New Yorker as a virtuoso of colour and possessor of perfect chromatic pitch, and winner of Designer of the Year at the 2023 Wallpaper* Design Awards, Mahdavi envelops Pierre Bonnards works in an environment that complements Bonnards distinct use of colour and texture, and evokes the wistful domestic intimacy for which his paintings are renowned.

Mahdavi has appeared multiple times on the Architectural Digest list of the 100 most influential architects and designers. Her approach to colour, structure and texture has resulted in several acclaimed architectural projects, including collaborations with contemporary British artist David Shrigley and British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare for The Gallery at sketch in London. Mahdavis interest in the domestic interior has also resulted in ranges of furniture and design objects for the home.

Monsieur Bonnard and I share the same passion for colour the way he invites us in his home and intimacy is sublimated by his very own sense of colour for this exhibition, we dived into Pierre Bonnards paintings and extracted some of his patterns and colours to recreate backdrops to his paintings, offering an immersive experience of a home to the visitor, says India Mahdavi.

Looking ahead to the job market "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Ensuring a constantly shifting economy meets the needs of the local community is among the biggest challenges of population growth.

Geelongs modern economy has been one of the countrys success stories, with both the number of jobs (125,000) and annual output ($39 billion) soaring in recent years.

But with more people moving to the region over the coming years, we need to ensure the right jobs, the necessary infrastructure and services, and a skilled workforce are in place.

Council is continually working with a range of partners to leverage and promote our competitive strengths, and to prepare residents to find local jobs in a changing economy.

It is about identifying the current opportunities, and looking ahead to help realise the potential of emerging and diversifying industries.

And it is about bringing through the next generation of workers, and linking them to existing employers.

As part of this work, the City of Greater Geelong recently partnered with The Gordon to host an Apprenticeship and Traineeship Support Forum.

The forum aimed to maximise apprenticeship and traineeship participation, increasing retention rates, and assist in meeting labour shortages in the region.

Young jobseekers and their families were able to meet apprenticeship providers, group training organisations and employers to learn about the state of the jobs market.

Small to medium-sized businesses learnt about the benefits, responsibilities, and process of taking on an apprentice or trainee.

They also received an understanding of the ongoing support and incentives available.

The forum is part of the wide range of work the City does to support small business, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

For 12 years, the City has run the Geelong Small Business Festival.

In an exciting development for this regions largest dedicated business festival, the Geelong Chamber of Commerce is taking the lead to deliver the event this year in August.

The partnership between the City and the Chamber has been formed based on the shared goal of cultivating economic prosperity and a thriving business community in Geelong.

The event remains open to operators and entrepreneurs from all industries, and for businesses of all sizes.

Attracting thousands of participants every year, the festival aims to provide insights, resources, and practical strategies for navigating the evolving business landscape.

Outside of this, the Citys Business and Industry Experience team is working to ensure businesses can take advantage of the wonderful potential of the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The delivering a local supplier engagement program, to make sure local suppliers are up to date with the goods and services opportunities on offer for the Games.

Local advice and recommendations. Much appreciated "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Hi, Im flying to Cairns for a work trip landing the Sunday 11/6/23 night and leaving Sunday 16/6/23 late arvo. I will be staying on the esplanade working from 8am to 4pm in the afternoon every day.

I would enjoy checking out Cairns although with my limited time in the morning in the evenings I know theyre probably isnt much I can do.

But Id love to hear recommendations no matter how big or small.

For example, Your favourite coffee shop?

Any cool independent stores.

Walks or things to do around the city.

Your favourite place to get a snack or a meal? ( there will be 10 of us for work and Ill do this with the team the other things Ill likely do solo).

I also love fishing, and I wonder if its worth taking a travel rod to do some early-morning fishing somewhere off the Esplanade? Any bream ect around? I would take a light spin rod.

Cool bar or drink

All suggestions appreciated!

Koalas and their health and habitat have been in the news more than ever in recent months and the word is starting to get out that they need our help.

Recently in an effort to bolster conservation of this furry friend, a contingent of volunteers gathered at Tucki Tucki to plant out an area with trees that koalas love to eat.

Members of Bangalow Koalas and the World Wide Fund (WWF) were on hand to get their hands dirty. They got together on a slice of privately owned land to plant 750 koala habitat and food trees.

A wildlife corridor

The planting is building a part of a wildlife corridor that allows koalas to safely move between their forest homes. The land is owned by farmers who are keen to provide and restore homes for their resident koalas.

Gold Coast model and WWF ambassador Sam Harris, along with her husband Luke, swapped the catwalk for hillside at Tucki Tucki to help with the plant in the hope of raising awareness and encouraging Aussies to do their part in supporting habitat regeneration.

It means so much to be able to give back, and see the work at hand, said Sam. Joining the local community, the Git...

Geelong Chamber of Commerce marks 170 years "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

It was a night of laughter and reminiscing as the Geelong Chamber of Commerce celebrated 170 years.

Close to 400 people gathered at The Pier on Thursday, June 8, from 5.30pm to reflect on the chambers history of supporting local businesses.

Chief executive Jeremy Crawford said it was fantastic reconnecting with people and getting to know new faces at the event, which looked to host as many people as possible.

When planning this event, it was incredibly important for us to provide a platform and a celebration, he said.

The board of the organisation supported the fact that we couldnt lose sight of how we bring our business communities together.

President Dr John Stekelenburg said that in adversity, theres always opportunities, and the event was an exciting time to look at how the chamber was helping drive change in the community.

Im really optimistic. I look forward to the future and I also look forward to the future of the chamber, he said.

Its important that we provide events such as this, to showcase our vibrant and rich business community and to continue being the connection point of business in Geelong.

Corangamite MP Libby Coker said the number of people that came to the event showed the chambers strength in being the regions voice for business and industry.

The advocacy of this organisation has been one that has made sure that this region has grown and will continue to grow, she said.

It has brought together industry, workers and all levels of government to achieve job growth, innovative manufacturing and a vibrant small business community.

I look forward to the Small Business Festival coming out later this year as the chamber leads this event for the first time in its history.

The anniversary event featured supplied food and drinks, music by Piano Bars Andy Pobjoy and a video detailing the chambers history from 1853 to now.

There was also a panel discussion from the current chamber president Dr Stekelenburg and former presidents, Norm Lyons (2000-2001) and Kylie Warne (2013-2018).

Artist on Artist Interview: The Aces and The Buoys "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The Aces and The Buoys may be separated by distance the former hail from the US and the latter are Sydney locals but theyre united by myriad similarities.

Theyre both female-fronted groups who absolutely refute the outdated term girl band; they both make music on their own terms, endemic misogyny be damned; and they both firmly believe in being true to themselves whenever they make music and perform.

The Aces just released their third studio album, Ive Loved You For So Long, perfectly timed for the beginning of Pride Month, and it finds the indie pop band on fine form, reflecting on identity, love, relationships, and mental health.

Tone Deaf favourites The Buoys, meanwhile, recently released one of their funnest and fiercest songs to date, I Want You, with the accompanying music video showing the band careen around their hometown in a novelty-sized backpack.

Both bands have a lot going on, in other words. To celebrate the release of Ive Loved You For So Long, Tone Deaf got The Aces and The Buoys to get to know each other better, and they discussed the music industry, connecting with fans, backstage rituals, Vegemite, and much more.

Wildfires As A Weapon: US Military Exposed

Is the military industrial complex insane enough to incinerate Earths last remaining forests in order to achieve the objectives of the global controllers?

Volunteers go green for World Environment Day "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Lake Connewarre will soon sprout new plants thanks to volunteers work celebrating World Environment Day.

Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) held a Lets Plant day at the lakes Douglas Street site on Wednesday, June 7, two days after World Environment Day.

Project officer Leah Edwards said local experts in land management had thoughtfully chosen the plants the volunteers would place at Lake Connewarre.

These plantings aim to create and enhance habitats suitable for the diverse bird life associated with Lake Connewarre, she said.

They were selected based on their compatibility with the natural habitat of the surrounding wetland ecosystem.

Among the species introduced were Acacias, Banksias, and various types of Wallaby grasses.

By incorporating these specific plants, we seek to foster a harmonious environment that supports the natural ecosystem and promotes biodiversity.

Ms Edwards said she loved events like the planting day because it was a genuine and down-to-earth experience.

Its all about the simple joy of being in nature, getting your hands dirty, and enjoying the company of our community, she said.

People find happiness in taking part in small acts to help our planet, like planting trees, without any grand expectations.

Its a wonderful opportunity to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and make a positive impact on our environment.

Ramsar Convention on Wetlands secretary general Martha Rojas Urrego said looking after the local environment was important.

The health and well-being of the worlds wetlands are central to planetary and human health, she said.

Our ability to save the worlds wetlands rests on our capacity to foster greater consciousness and understanding of the multiple benefits that these momentous, life-supporting ecosystems provide from every vantage point.

Empire Fables: Vladimir Gluten and the Country that Keeps Attacking Itself "IndyWatch Feed National"

A hound and a cat sat on a couch and watched TV.

The hound flipped through the channels with the remote but could only find two mollusks debating how stupid Joe Biden is and the National Weather Service talking about a terrible pestilence sweeping the land.

Wait! said the cat. Lets see what they named the terrible pestilence.

The crawl says theyre calling it the Victoria Nuland! said the hound. Hey, its time already for the CIA mockingbird news.

At this the cat sprang off the couch and got nose to nose with the screen, switching his tail from side to side, as the mockingbird fluttered and chirped away:

In our continuing exhausting award-winning coverage of Russias Hitler-like attack on Ukraine, we sum up the irrefutable truths so far: Russia bombed its own Nord Stream gas pipeline, bombed its own ammonia pipeline, bombed its own journalists in its own cafe, bombed its own Kerch bridge, tortured and killed its own allies and sympathizers in Bucha, attacked the Kremlin with drones, bombed its own troops holding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and destroyed the Nova Kakhovka dam so Russian defenses and minefields would be washed away and water would be cut off to its soldiers and allies in Crimea.

The cat turned his head to the hound and said, Can you believe this shit?

And the hound answered: I know! I never saw a country attack itself so much. Its like it has an auto-immune disorder like a really bad gluten allergy.

And that, children, is how Vladimir Gluten got his name.

Aboriginal artworks installed on M1 overpass bridges "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The artists were selected by local Aboriginal communities and stakeholders, and their artworks communicate the rich and ancient history of these nations.

Transport for NSW is planning a community event involving all the artists and their communities, to be held in the coming months.

Portarlington gets Celtic "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The National Celtic Folk Festival (NCFF) is back in Portarlington for cultural activities and music.

Festival director Una McAlindan said the NCFF has come back bigger and better for its 19th year and looked forward to seeing everyone come together to enjoy the event from June 9 to 12.

This year were back with an international lineup, a full programme, and weve got some extra things that are part of the event, she said.

Were working with the Geelong Gaels and celebrating 160 years of the first rules of hurling, which were written in Geelong and then sent back to Ireland.

The music programme is really great. Its very diverse this year and theres the strong Celtic element, which is the heart of what were about.

Ms McAlindan said the festival would feature many Australian and international artists and allow younger musicians to get their start in the industry.

Providing opportunities for young artists is a bit of a highlight for me, she said.

The importance of what theyre doing is sustaining the culture and its really important for cultural festivals like ours to really focus on the young people that are passionate about it.

Ms McAlindan said the festival would also have activities, markets, food stalls and Celtic sporting events that would appeal to everyone, on top of an impressive musical lineup.

It appeals to all ages, and we get a lot of participation, she said.

We found last year, coming back after COVID, the biggest thing that connected everyone was the sense of community of like-minded people.

People got together because they missed travelling back to their country of origin and this really felt like home.

How Doctors Buy Their Way Out of Trouble "IndyWatch Feed National"

From Reuters: When federal enforcers alleged in 2015 that New York surgeon Feng Qin had performed scores of medically unnecessary cardiac procedures on elderly patients, they decided not to pursue a time-consuming criminal case.

Instead, prosecutors chose an easier, swifter legal strategy: a civil suit. Qin agreed to pay $150,000 in a negotiated settlement and walked free to perform more cardiac surgeries at his new solo practice in lower Manhattan.

Qin faced no judge or jury. He did not admit to wrongdoing. He maintained his license to practice. Whats more, neither Qin nor government officials were required to notify patients who purportedly were subjected to vascular surgical procedures they didnt need. Those included fistulagrams to spot issues like narrowed blood vessels or clots, and angioplasties to open clogged coronary arteries.

Within months of the settlement, a registered nurse working for Qin at his Manhattan practice alerted authorities that something seemed amiss. The nurse, who ultimately turned whistleblower, alleged to federal prosecutors that the surgeon was performing unnecessary procedures on patients, mostly elderly Asian and Black immigrants whose care was covered by the public programs Medicare or Medicaid.

Prosecutors indicted Qin in 2018 on a felony count of fraud, which carried a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. But in 2021, in a deal brokered behind closed doors, prosecutors dropped that charge in favor of yet another civil settlement, court records detailing that agreement show.

Once again, Qin kept his New York license to practice with no restrictions; a restricted license is one of the few ways the public can learn that a doctor has been disciplined for bad behavior. Qin agreed to pay a total of $800,000 in annual installments ending in December 2025, deposited with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As an added penalty, he was banned from billing public health programs until February 2025.

. . . The registered nurse who reported Qin to authorities in 2015 was stunned that the criminal charge was dropped.

A wealthy doctor bought his way out of jail, whistleblower Mark Favors told Reuters in his first public interview about the Qin case. How many people get a deal like that?

The answer, it turns out, is plenty.

Austrian Censorship of Peace Conference Is An Outrage "IndyWatch Feed National"

By David Swanson, Executive Director of World BEYOND War; Kathy Kelly, President of World BEYOND War; John Reuwer, Board Member of World BEYOND War; Brad Wolf, Director of Peace Action, Lancaster, PA

Forty-eight hours before a global peace conference in Vienna, Austria, was to begin, the venue host abruptly cancelled. Peace, it seems, cannot be discussed, especially peace in Ukraine.

This news is a disturbing step in a growing trend.

Owners of the venue which was to host the Summit for Peace in Ukraine, announced on Wednesday, 7 June, 2023, their decision to cancel the agreement holding the summit on their premises. Fortunately, a new location was secured in Vienna (and anyone on Earth can sign up to take part online), but not before a smear campaign against the summit had been launched.

The venue owners reportedly explained: We have decided to comply with the wishes of Ukraine and its embassy operating in Austria and have cancelled the rental of all rooms in the GB catamaran for the event International Summit for Peace in Ukraine next weekend.

This was not just one venue taking this position. On Wednesday, the Press Club Concordia also refused to make its premises in a central location in downtown Vienna available for a press conference of the summit.

Supporters of the summit note the chilling innuendo caused by the abrupt cancellation of the summit. Speakers widely regarded for their moral and intellectual guidance have been undermined in statements intended to justify objections to the summit.

This is not an isolated incident. Western liberal ideals have long asserted that the best answer to mistaken speech was wiser speech and more of it. We now have a rapidly growing liberal consensus in favor, instead, of censoring media outlets, canceling speaking events, and forbidding people with unwanted points of view from even gathering together. Powers are being granted to governments, social media platforms, and other tec...

Fairness and equity: public perceptions of democracy in South and Southeast Asia "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Last month, the Alliance for Democracies a Copenhagen-based non-profit published its Democracy Perceptions Index (DPI). Drawn from over 50,000 survey responses across 53 countries, the Index is one of the largest datasets available on global citizen views of democracy. The Alliance publishes its data set, which allowed us a closer look at the results for South and Southeast Asia.

From an Australian perspective, the DPI is especially timely. A year into its first term, Australias Labor government has shown increased interest in the state of democracy in neighbouring regions. A parliamentary inquiry, convened in late 2022, is looking at how Australia can partner with countries in our region to promote democracy and the international rules-based order. An Australian Strengthening Democracy Taskforce has been tasked to bolster Australias democratic resilience and enhance trust among citizens, and between citizens and governments. The collective aim of these efforts is to work out what supporting democratic trends could look like across the vastly different countries and contexts in which Australia focuses its development and diplomatic efforts. They reflect renewed vigour in the discussion in Australia about the state of democracy in the region a discussion that has languished in the last decade or more. They also illustrate a willingness to look at questions of democratic development in a more sophisticated way, eschewing the kinds of knee-jerk judgements that sometimes arise in analyses of democratic trends in the region.

The DPI data is useful from this perspective, as it is based on public perceptions. It provides an interesting complement and in some senses counterpoint to assessments that focus on the actions of national governments and the changes they make to the legal and regulatory environment, such as the CIVICUS Monitor, Freedom Houses Freedom in the World Report, and Varieties of Democracy Index, or those that assess the quality of elections, such as the Electoral Integrity Project, the Economist Intelligence Units Democracy Index, or International IDEAs Electoral Mana...

Guest post: What credible climate pledges mean for future global warming "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Almost every country in the world has signed up to the Paris Agreements goal of keeping warming well-below 2C and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5C.

As countries gear up to conclude the first global stocktake of progress under the Paris Agreement, you might be wondering how things look for the long-term temperature target.

This seems a simple question, but when looking around for answers one cannot help but come back either disappointed or confused.

On the one hand, some studies, policy trackers and UN reports (including by the IPCC or the UN climate conventions secretariat) suggest that current policies lead the world well past the 2C mark. Estimates range anywhere in the general 2.5C to 3C range, but with a common thread: they all clearly fail to meet the Paris Agreement.

On the other hand, the UN environment programme, plus other studies and reports, suggest that achievement of the Paris Agreement is right there in front of us, within reach if not for a slight additional push. These estimates project warming already below 2C and moving towards the 1.5C limit.

These two answers span an unhelpfully broad range from disaster avoided to disaster confirmed.

In our latest study, published today in Science, we try to provide greater clarity in this regard.

We find a clear answer to the difference between the two extreme outcomes.

The latter set of estimates takes all pledges at face value, both near-term pledges until 2030 which are called...

In the early 20th century, the field of psychology was revolutionized by a concept known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, developed the MBTI based on Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jungs theory of psychological types. Over the years, the MBTI has transformed into a reliable psychological instrument used in various fields such as career counseling, team building, personal development, and even relationship counseling.  At present, an estimated 2 million people take the MBTI test annually, demonstrating how well-known it is by the general population.

The MBTI categorizes individuals into 16 different personality Sensing vs Intuition, Thinking vs Feeling, and Judging vs Perceiving. Each personality type is represented by a unique four-letter code (e.g., INFJ, ESTP). Gene-Edited GMOs: The Answer to Superweeds Or A Covert Tactic To Avoid Regulation? "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

From Moms Across America

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have been a serious threat to human health for decades. Aside from creating nutrient-deficient food and contributing to illness in general, the environmental perils of genetically modified agriculture have centered around the chemicals used alongside GMOs, like Roundup. This is because these chemicals cause the development of superweeds and superbugspests that are impossible to fully control because they have developed resistance. But are gene-edited varieties the answer?

In the case of superweeds, the crops treated with Roundup are genetically modified to resist it so that farmers can spray everything ubiquitously, but to the farmers dismay the weeds, in turn, genetically modified themselves to resist Roundup toocausing superweeds.

Similar to superweeds, superbugs are insects that have developed a resistance to insecticidesa major problem for farmers, as insects can cause significant damage to crops. In some cases, farmers have to use even more pesticides and herbicides to control them, which can lead to further environmental damage and more toxic chemicals on our dinner plates. Some of the notable cases of insect resistance to Bt include certain species of bollworms, pink bollworms, diamondback moths, and corn rootworms.

Australian Bank Takes Stance Against Payments To Select Crypto Exchanges "IndyWatch Feed National"

Due to concerns over the risk of scams, Australias largest bank, Commonwealth Banks (CBA), has recently announced the temporary delay of certain payments associated with crypto exchanges.

This decision arose after the United States Securities Regulator (SEC) sued two major global exchanges, Coinbase and Binance. This comes just a few weeks after another major Australian bank, Westpac, banned customers from transacting with crypto exchange Binance.

Commonwealth Bank Combat Scams, Prioritizing Customer Protection

On June 8, CBA disclosed its intention to decline or place a 24-hour hold on certain payments to crypto exchanges. Nevertheless, the bank has yet to specify which crypto exchanges or payment types would be impacted by these new measures.

Related Reading: Ripple CEO Blasts SEC Chair For Anti-Innovation Stance, XRP Bulls Remain Optimistic

According to a statement, CBA claimed that the measures theyve introduced safeguard their clients from scams associated with making payments to crypto exchanges.

The bank added that customers sending funds to crypto exchanges to purchase cryptocurrencies will have a monthly limit of AUD 10,000 ($6,650).

The general manager of CBAs fraud management services, James Roberts, said;

Consumer interest in cryptocurrencies has been increasing, and unfortunately, scammers globally are capitalizing on this trend and masquerading as legitimate investment opportunities or diverting funds into cryptocurrency exchanges.

James further emphasized that the limits on outbound payments to crypto exchanges and the 24-hour holds will help fight the number of scams and money lost by customers.

CBA said continual evaluation and monitoring would be conducted to assess the impacts of these scam response measures.

This recent security measure marks a significant reversal from its previous plans. Notably, in November 2021, the bank introduced crypto trading services through its CommBank app, holding millions of users.

During that period, the banks CEO, Matt Comyn, acknowledged the associated risks but emphasized the greater risks of not participating.  He stated that The sector and the technology [isnt] going away anytime soon.
