kicked off in Melbourne to discuss how genomics can help our
health.
A new national centre called the Australian Alliance for Indigenous
Genomics, (ALIGN), was also launched this week bringing benefits of
genomics medicine to First Nations Australians.
With different genomics projects, scientific and First
Nations communities will have a deeper insight into common diseases
like diabetes and cancer.

Collaboration with farmers key in conserving native ecosystems in agricultural landscapes "IndyWatch Feed Qld"
Australia has one of the worlds highest rates of deforestation.
Less than 5% of native vegetation remains on roadsides and private properties in South Australias York Peninsula, according to a new study.
In a bid to boost conservation in agricultural landscapes, researchers are calling for drastic changes to land management strategies to retain native ecosystems and prevent biodiversity loss. The study, between university of South Australia and Kangaroo Island Research Station frames a lens on empowering collaboration between farmers and regional communities by identifying barriers that obstruct preservation.

Traditional Owners rejoice as court overturns plan for Kimba nuclear waste dump "IndyWatch Feed Qld"
We won it for our grandparents, an echo of Bungarla Elder, Dawn Taylors sentiment, following the outcome of a six-year fight for Kimba in SAs Eyre Peninsula.
In a triumphant moment, what has often been described as a David and Goliath case reached a victorious peak with the Federal Court in Adelaide ruling in favour of Barngarla people, overturning the federal governments decision to build a nuclear waste dump near Kimba.
As reported by the Guardian, justice Natalie Charlesworth said the court would uphold an application by the Barngarla Determination Aboriginal Corporation due to apprehended bias and pre-judgement by former Coalition resources minister Keith Pitt.
So, what does this victory mean for Barngarla people?

Review is an annual report recommending ways the
government can support women to feel more accepted and comfortable
in STEM related careers.
One group who has contributed to this report is Girl Geek
Academy, which encourages girls and women of all ages to recognise
their importance in the world of STEM. They conducted their own
research for the report.

UTAS: In more trouble than Burke and Wills? "IndyWatch Feed Tas"
UTAS is in more trouble than Burke and Wills.
The UTAS Council meeting on 27th April 2023 discussed the 2023 financial forecast. The minutes, reproduced below, make bleak reading.
The Council discussed the challenging conditions facing the University in 2023 and proceeded to discuss ways to generate a positive EBITDA in the coming years. What that implies is that current projections must show negative EBITDAs.
The acronym EBITDA stands for Earnings Before Interest Tax Depreciation and Amortisation, essentially the cash earnings before interest and depreciation (NB UTAS doesnt pay tax). Its a standard measure of the cash available to service borrowings and to pay for capex amounts (new buildings say).
UTAS EBITDA in 2022 was $30.9 million. To be in negative territory in 2023 reveals an alarming downturn.
A business might break even from a profit perspective, but adding back depreciation and interest gives a figure for cash earnings.
If UTAS has negative cash earnings, it can only survive by running down its investments or borrowing more. Even if capex spending is zero, it means UTAS is borrowing to pay interest. Ouch.
Running down investment and borrowing more was the plan for financing the Hobart move. Without that UTAS survival changes would be greater as universities traditionally have a larger buffer of cash and investments than most in the private sector.
The minutes suggest future challenges will start to be addressed in October. This highlights the nature of UTAS business. Whilst others might be able to implement changes more rapidly, UTAS is tied to the cycle of the academic year. Its going to have to live with cash haemorrhaging for the rest of 2023 and hope things can be put into place post October to take effect before the 2024 academic year.
The 2022 Annual Report reflected (t)hese past three years have been among the most challenging our University has ever faced.

Revised strategy focuses on regions Aboriginal heritage "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"
THE draft Wollongong Heritage Strategy 2023-2027, now on exhibition for comment, has been revised to include a stronger focus on Aboriginal Heritage.
Wollongong City Council says identifying, conserving, recording, and celebrating the regions heritage is a key strategic goal.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said the City of Wollongong is on Dharawal Country.
One of the aspects of our history that we wanted to make clear in the draft Strategy is that Wollongongs heritage is much more than just historical buildings. While architectural forms such as cemeteries, ocean pools, historic buildings and memorials are important, our heritage stretches beyond the European-centric lens, Cr Bradbery said.
Instead, our citys heritage has been shaped by cultural and natural landscapes of importance to the local Aboriginal Community, which are now layered with shared heritage values such as agriculture, mining and military history.

Strategy identifies the risks associated with heat for the community and the environment "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"
ALTHOUGH floods and bushfires have dominated the news headlines in recent years, heatwaves kill more Aussies annually than all other natural hazards combined.
Heat and heatwaves are the focus of a new strategy that has been drafted by Wollongong City Council in consultation with the University of New South Wales.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said the draft strategy identifies the risks associated with heat for the community, the environment, and Council operations.
Heat is increasingly recognised as a key risk to communities right across Australia. That risk will only grow as our climate changes, said Cr Bradbery.
A heatwave is when both maximum and minimum temperatures stay unusually high for three or more days. Heatwave effects are magnified in built up areas, like Wollongong, where hard surfaces such as roads and buildings retain heat and drive-up temperatures (called the urban heat island effect).

Shedshaker Brewing launches Castlemaine Keg for Good, raising money for community groups "IndyWatch Feed Vic"
Renowned for its range of fresh, handcrafted, small-batch craft beers, Castlemaines Shedshaker Brewing has launched a new community program aimed at raising money for local groups to help them pursue their goals.
Named Castlemaine Keg for Good, the money raised each month will be donated to a nominated local community group, starting this July.

Locally loved for its fresh beer, local wines and delicious food served in a funky arts space with live music and an eclectic arts program, Shedshaker Director Jacqueline Brodie-Hanns said the Keg for Good is another way Shedshaker is helping the community.
Once a month, well throw a keg on the bar for our Castlemaine Keg for Good, she explains.
People can then visit the Taproom, order a pot or pint of our Pale Ale and pay whatever amount they like as a donation to the cause.
Combining donating to local groups with a lovely cold beer seems like win-win to us!
Shedshaker will donate 100% of proceeds from the keg to the chosen group and let everyone know how much money was raised.
The brewery has selected Red Box Wildlife Shelter as the first donation recipient, a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation site for Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Brushtail Possums. Their mission is to Rescue, Rehabilitate, Raise and Release along with teach Compassion, promote Education and encourage Advocacy.
For our first Keg for Good, we will be donating money to Red Box Wildlife Shelter, who do brilliant work looking after kangaroos and other animals, including those hit by cars or injured in other ways and getting them back on their feet.
On Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 of July, from 5pm to close, all donations for a pot or pint of Pale will go to this great charity.
Like many others, we admire Nikki and Scotts dedication to protecting and helping kangaroos and are thrilled they are the first local organisation we can help with this program.
Each month will feature a different local group to spread the goodwill around the community.

Cult hot rod, motorcycle and music festival Chopped postpones 2023 event "IndyWatch Feed Vic"
Hailed a hybrid hot rod, motorcycle and music camping festival that embraces the path less trodden by mainstream society, Chopped has announced some devastating news that the festival would be postponing its 12th edition, which was due to take over Carisbrook with a wild three-day event from November 11-12 2023.
In a statement released to social media, the festival announced that the 2023 event would be postponed to next year due to issues outside of their control. The new dates for the festival are now October 4 6 2024.

Due to some major issues that are out of our control we must postpone the next CHOPPED that was due in November this year, we are totally bummed and so sorry about this, the festival said.

There is no issue in getting that all-time banger of a party to you, it is going to take us some extra time to make this happen and we have big things lined up to deliver!

And today we give you no-plus, the real secret to Wall Streets boom-y-ness. </p> <p>Dont fight the Fed has been one of the most successful formulae on Wall Street. But its not foolproof. And not complete.</p> <p>When the Fed switched from enabling inflation with zero rates in 2020to trying to curb it by increasing rates in 2022an investor would have been well advised to switch too from buying the dips to selling the bounces. Stocks went down.</p> <p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Doom, gloom and boom</strong></p> <p>But then, they didnt go down. The bounce has now gone on for nine months. It has created a whole new group of rich people the AI Millionaires. And it has produced what looks to many like a new bull marketwith the best six months for the Nasdaq in historyand more to come. </p> <p>Not only that, but the US economy, too, has so far resisted its long overdue rendezvous with the business cycle. Wheres the recession? Wheres all the doom & gloom we promised?

However, the anniversary is an interesting coincidence as recently I've been reflecting on the Fragments exhibtion that Hape curated as I've been focused on researching Murray Cod.
It's a long story, so let me try and make sense of it.
The fragments that formed the exhibition were offcuts from a River Red Gum that Hape Kiddle sculpted into a Murray Cod for the National Museum of Australia.
He offered big chunks of timber to local artists and asked them
to use these for the exhibition, while he worked on the
sculpture.
Last weekend I ended up at the Museum and went looking for Hape's Cod.

Bloc Party announces headline Australian shows "IndyWatch Feed Vic"
Alongside dates on their joint headline tour with Interpol, Bloc Party have announced a slew of Australian headlining tour dates. Gracing stages Down Under for the first time since 2018, youll have to head to Perth, Adelaide or Hobart to catch Bloc Party on their own. However, theyll be heading to Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on November 16 for a show alongside Interpol.

Dan Andrews is right to cancel Commonwealth Games "IndyWatch Feed Tas"

Most of us get taken up by major sports events like the Commonwealth games and were looking forward for the next ones to take place in Australia. But as everyone knows now, they are off because the Victorian government says the state cant afford the cost blowout.
When all in considered, the states premier Dan Andrews was right to have the courage to say no. The cost blowout to $7 billion is far too much. There are far more important needs for the money to be spent on.

Efforts by parliamentary opponents trying to use the issue for their own political gain dont deserve to be rewarded for it. There are those functionaries and businesses suffering the loss of their own benefits. But their gain should not be at the cost of everyone elses loss.
The memory over the Tasmanian football stadium debacle is still fresh. Tasmanians held that other needs were more important. They killed it, and Dan Andrews has undoubtedly and for good reason taken this into account.
Channelling a significant part of the states budget to which is, after all a circus, would be irresponsible. In the end, Victorians will not thank a government that did this and subsequently imposed the cost on them through cuts in services.
At a time when Australians are suffering from a cost of living blowout, there is a crying need to provide relief through more expenditure on affordable housing, health, and other measures that will help maintain a reasonable standard of living.
Money must be spent on transitioning to cleaner energy and building the infrastructure that help will generate a healthier economy to provide decent jobs and lift our income.

Request for stamp duty waiver for flood-affected residents denied "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"
A local flood-affected resident contacted The Echo around their disappointment that a request was denied by the NSW Labor government to have stamp duty waived on new purchases for flood victims who were saying yes to a buyback.
As previously reported, buyback offers made by the the Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation (NRRC) are at post-flood market rate, and there is little transparency around the appeals process. The NRRCs responsibilities were transferred to the NSW Reconstruction Authority on July 1.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous said, At our most vulnerable time, when we need support now more than ever, not only are NRRC failing to aid the recovery process, but the NSW state government are also failing to read the room.

Punk band the Painters and Dockers front man Paulie Stewart has lived a life of jagged contrast.
The brother of East Timor Balibo 5 Channel 7 sound recordist Tony Stewart, the deep injustice felt by the callous treatment by then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam at the time of the event has never left younger brother Paul.
Paulie joined the band he still tours with but along the way also became a journalist, met Bill Clinton, got Keith Richards to sing There Was a Redback on the Toilet Seat, supports an order of Nuns in East Timor (whom he regularly visits), was a friend of Father Bob and most recently almost died of a diseased liver, whereupon he wrote his memoir All the Rage.
The Painters and Dockers were a band with an edgy reputation from the 70s on and now they have clocked up 40 years and are on an anniversary tour. They will be at the Factory Theatre 29th July.

The apolitical wrath of climate change has never been more apparent than it is today, begging the question: How can we forge a non-ideological consensus to take on the climate emergency?
The notion of a bipartisan crusade against the ravages of climate change in hyperpolarized America may seem positively quaint, especially with a Republican Party still largely denying the severity or, in some cases, the existence of the climate crisis. But in a nation where neither major party has been able to maintain unified power for more than a congressional cycle since 2007, what is the alternative?
The nation is under assault from an enemy that does not distinguish between races, creeds, religions, or political affiliations. The ravages of climate change are coming for all of us.
The urgency of the climate crisis does not allow for Pollyanna delusions of a progressive political tide that would rapidly usher in an era of aggressive climate policies. And even in the highly unlikely event of sustained, unified Democratic governance, recent history offers little assurance that Democrats would embrace the far-reaching agenda needed to stave off the worst effects of climate change. Indeed, the Democratic Party, both at the national and state level, has more than its share of climate incrementalists and outright fossil fuel industry apologists. Joe Manchin may be the bogeyman for climate activists, but he is far from alone among Democrats in his bowing to petrochemical interests.
So where does that leave us? Perhaps the answer is to reframe the need for urgent climate action in the most American of ways: as one that puts love of country above all else.
This is not a mere marketing strategy, but an approach guided by the undeniable facts of climate change. The nation is under assault from an enemy albeit one of our own making that does not distinguish between races, creeds, religions, or political affiliations. The ravages of climate change are coming for all of us.
In such circumstances, the only rational response is one that encourages alliances which transcend our broken politics and reject the doomsday path of denial, accommodation and gradual reform. The new climate patriot could be of any political persuasion, and could be just as easily...

In an unprecedented coup of access to any Monarch, Karin af Klintberg assembled a documentary on King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. He was the youngest monarch to ascend a throne at age 27 over 50 years ago.
Director and creator Karin af Klintberg had sent thousands of emails to finally spend many hours with the King in interviews over an extensive 2 year period. Gustaf did not like much of the constant photography and public engagements that a King had to endure, and was regarded as somewhat reclusive, so the achievement of this film is unlikely to be surpassed.

Indigenous Smi people wanted to preserve a nomadic way of life that fitted in with the seasons and followed the Reindeer. The Government down in Oslo however had plans for an essential river that would be dammed and the country lost to the Smi.

Commonwealth Games shafted "IndyWatch Feed Qld"
After 15 months of hype, projected glory and excitement for athletes around the world, Premier Andrews flanked by Deputy Jacinta Allan and the Minister for Regional Development Harriet Shing announced that due to cost blow outs Victoria was pulling the plug on the Commonwealth Games.
They had got the sums wrong by over 300% and Andrews said that Victoria could no longer see any benefit in going on with it. Many sought to sheet the blame home to the Monarchy, somehow equating the death of Queen Elizabeth with a loss of any need for athletic endeavour in the anglophone world. Apparently the AFL Grand Final will go ahead in Victoria though.
Country centres throughout Victoria were in shock as the first regional Games would have benefitted many regional cities like Ballarat, Shepparton and Geelong. But a lot of infrastructure was still going ahead according to Ballarat Mayor Des Hudson OAM

Seymour Hersh: Ordinary People by the Millions "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"
Seymour Hersh / Substack Lunch with Tom Frank is a totally American experience. Hes a proud native of Kansas but far from a country boy: he got his doctorate from the University of Chicago and has written a series of influential books. He likes people, food, and telling it like it is. He teases the waiter, talks about a healthy salad, and then orders an overstuffed sandwich that he wolfs down as he dissects the increasingly crazed American political world. Hes not just a guy who happens to be bright and unpretentious and a lot of fun who has chosen to focus on American politics; hes a political prophet who two decades ago saw what others could not glimpse and published Whats the Matter with Kansas?, a bestseller that told how and why the working-class folks of Kansas, once radical progressives, have moved farther and farther to the right in recent years. It was a profound book that foretold much about our current political woes.
In 2016, the sweet-faced Frank put a shiv into the heart of the Democratic establishment in Listen, Liberal, a devastating account of the failures of the party. In 2020 he broadened his canvas to tell the story of populism in the US and its failure to take hold of the nations institutions, framed as a critique of its enemies, in The People, No: A Brief History of Anti-Populism.
His message is more relevant than ever, as we and the world face a most uncertain immediate future. We got into it over lunch a few weeks ago and he agreed to answer my questions in an edited version presented here.
SEYMOUR HERSH: How did we get to the political fault line that gave us a Donald Trump? When did it all start?
THOMAS FRANK: I sometimes feel like its the story of my life, because it all began shortly after I was born in 1965, during the Vietnam era. Within a few years came the beginning of the culture wars and the eclipsing of the old liberal consensus. Its important to remember two facts about it all: First, that every single battle in the culture wars has been presented to us over the years as a kind of substitute class war, as an uprising of ordinary people with their humble values, against the highbrow elite.
The other fact is that, at the same time the Republicans were perfecting the culture-war formula, the Democrats were announcing that they no longer wanted to be the party of blue-collar workers. They said this more or less openly in the early 1970s. They envisioned a more idealistic, more noble constituency out there in the form of the young people then coming off the college campuses plus the enlightened white-collar elite....

Things Are Going Really Poorly for Putin in Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"
If you are reading the headline of this story and are following whats happening in Ukraine, you might be asking yourself: Really? But hasnt that much-hyped counteroffensive been less effective than the Ukrainians had hoped?
That may be true. However, when you take a step back and think about where things stand, you realize just how poorly the war is going for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Lets look at the big picture: Its been roughly a year and a half since his troops invaded Ukraine. Well, or at least tried to invade.
Since then, Russia has suffered massive losses, both in terms of lives and equipment destroyed. Its tough to say how many casualties the invading forces have suffered, but a new independent assessment estimates that 50,000 Russians have died so far.
In addition, Putins regime is hemorrhaging resources. That does not include the tanks that are being destroyed but also the missiles that Russia keeps firing at Ukraine. Those things dont grow on trees.
And for what? If you had asked Vlad the Invader in February of last year how much territory he thought he would have won by now, the answer probably would not have been Were hoping for some marginal gains in eastern Ukraine.
Obviously, it is true that Ukraine is also suffering heavy losses, and, as the smaller country, its casualties are more difficult to replace.
In addition, its not just soldiers who are getting killed (probably around 20-25,000) but also civilians (close to 10,000). Then there are the millions of refugees and thousands of people who have been abducted and abused.
But inflicting that kind of traumatic punishment on the Ukrainian people wasnt the goal; it was taking their land. And here, Russia has failed.
In defending its country, Ukraine has also used a lot of resources. However, as opposed to Russia, it is getting a steady supply of (often superior) weapons from Western countries, and they come free of....

The author of Bloombergs Saturday smear of the massively successful anti-child-trafficking film Sound of Freedom was penned by a radical LGBT activist who has argued in favor of destigmatizing pedophilia.
Noah Berlatskys apparent eagerness to brand the films popularity as ominous has prompted others online to both consider his possible motivations and review his past writ on the subject of pedophilia.
The critique
In his July 15 Bloomberg article, entitled QAnon and Sound of Freedom Both Rely on Tired Hollywood Tropes, which has since been republished by the Washington Post, Berlatsky suggested that the film has been embraced by the far right and Christians in part because the far right is motivated by myths of corrupted innocence and corruption avenged.
Berlatsky rehashed claims advanced in a similar hit-piece by a senior writer at Rolling Stone, intimating that the films presentation of trafficking is misleading.
As if to reassure, Berlatsky claimed that the majority of children sexually trafficked are actually between the ages of 15 and 17, adding that in 41% of the cases, a family member was involved. Behind those numbers are often stories of addiction, disowned LGBTQ+ people and trading sex on the street to survive.
Thats why experts worry that Sound of Freedoms stranger danger narrative, and the way it centers on victims who are as innocent and as sympathetic as possible, may make it more difficult to organize help for less perfect victims when they are targeted by those close to them, he continued.
Just as the depiction of victims as innocent or sympathetic are allegedly problematic, so too are the Hollywood depictions of good and bad where the bad guys are unremittingly evil, and the good guys are sensitive and unfailingly virtuous.
Is Sound of Freedom a QAnon dog whistle, or is it just another thriller? The answer is that whatever the filmmakers intentions it functions as both, wrote Berlatsky. These narratives do little to help victims. But they can create coalitions of feeling, disgust and righteous rage that connect conservative conspiracy theorists with the mainstream....

Deserved Cancellations: Victoria Rejects the Commonwealth Games "IndyWatch Feed Vic"
Hosting sporting events has always been a governments formula to distract their seducible subjects. Its the choir turned into flesh and performance. If such occasions are of sufficient scale, they might even be political promotions, body beautiful types paraded and performing before clapping and glorifying spectators. Sponsors also have their share of exposure. Horrendous expenses can thereby be justified, raids on the treasury written off in the name of improving societys spiritual being.
For all their heralded merits, mega sporting events usually have two clear outcomes: the budget blowout followed by the White Elephant syndrome. In that effort, other spending programs will be slashed or sacrificed altogether. But the propagandists will always shoot back: the sporting show is not merely the athlete on display but a form of renewal, a communal release. Why such renewal cannot happen without the building of sporting facilities with public funds is never made clear, though much is made of consumer spending, be it on food, drink and accommodation.
Such issues, and more beside, have been ignited with the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games by the Victorian state government. Premier Daniel Andrews, in announcing the matter on July 18, stated that the cost of hosting the Commonwealth Games in Victoria would exceed A$6 billion, more than twice the estimated economic benefit the Games would bring our state.
Andrews explains the main reason for originally agreeing to host the Games: to deliver lasting benefits in housing, tourism and sporting infrastructure for regional Victoria. It was flawed reasoning from the start, linking the hosting of a sporting event with a social, economic program. But even more critically, the decision to host an event no one else wanted was made even as the states debt was ballooning. Victoria faces deficits fed by the borrowing of A$31.5 billion worth in emergency funds to combat the COVID pandemic. The cynics had to venture the point that this whole affair was an indulgent political gambit, at least in part: to pitch for the Games would earn rewards at the November 2022 poll.
Given such money problems, the burgeoning costs came to be seen as something of a nightmare. This was hardly helped by the governments own decision to essentially avoid the pre-existing facilities already available in Melbourne. The decision to spread the games across four regional hubs in Victoria was always going to swell the sum in any logistical sense.
In place of not hosting the games, the Andrews government is offering a comprehensive A$2 billion package to ensure regional Victoria still receives....

UTAS: The State government's role Part 2 "IndyWatch Feed Tas"
(Apart from the three introductory paragraphs, this blog was sent as a supplementary sumission to the Legislative Councils Inquiry into Provisions of the University of Tasmania Act 1992.)
Maybe it was a coincidence or maybe it was intended. UTAS dumped a huge cache of documents and minutes on its website which related to its intended move into the Hobart CDB just days after the Legislative Council inquiry met with Treasurer Michael Ferguson on the 6th July 2023, thereby resticting the sorts of question he would otherwise have faced, essentially about the role of the State government in UTAS affairs.

Eliminationism Starts With Language "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"
25 years ago at the annual meeting of Portlands Lesbian Community Project, there was a motion on the floor to adopt a statement recognizing trans people as partners in liberation and trans women who joined LCP as full members with rights indistinguishable from other members.
During the discussion from the floor the people who objected to the proposal also rejected all the language necessary to talk about the proposal. They insisted that they were not cis, not not trans, and not non-trans. There was no language acceptable to them which would even allow the debate to be had. Woman, lesbian, and normal were all terms to be used exclusively for them and those these opponents personally validated.
Cis objections to the word cis as well as phrases like non-trans are 100% about who controls normal, but the effort to control normal is not an end of its own. Controlling language or normality and other words and phrases central to discussing the social realities of sex and gender are also about whether or not we are even allowed to have conversations. If opponents of gender liberation sufficiently control the language, then certain ideas cannot be effectively communicated, and meaningful understandings of trans lives cannot even be articulated. Without those understandings, that information about who trans people are, what the trans experience is, and even what is meant by the word trans, there can be no such thing as trans advocacy.
And that is the world they wish to occupy: a world in which they are not merely centred as normal, but a world in which no one can say transness exists, and no argument could ever be articulated in favour of trans humanity. Imagine a world in which sex and gender discrimination is banned, but so is deviation from sex and gender norms. It sounds weirdly dystopian, but its exactly the world weve occupied for much of my life.
For the cis supremacists, rebutting the arguments that trans people are people and that trans rights are human rights is tiring, and places them on the defensive. It even, occasionally, causes them to appear gauche.Their response to the debilitating possibility that they might feel awkward is, obviously, that language must be constructed such that those arguments cannot exist in the first place. Likewise books that make such arguments must be banned. They arent resistant to a particular position on the best way to construct a just world. Like the racists with whom John Venn would be happy to show their extensive overlap, they object to any effort to create a just world.

The Independent and Peaceful Australia Network (IPAN) coalition, which has been waging a long Campaign against United States led war exercises on Australian soil has released a statement welcoming the decision by India to pull out of the biggest United States led major war exercises on Australian soil.
Known as talisman Sabre, raises the risk of involvement in war, and is not in Australias interests. Indias withdrawal from the Talisman Sabre war exercises is a very welcome announcement, according to Ms Annette Brownlie, spokesperson for the coalition.

United States and Australian government hopes for India joining the Quad and making it a military alliance have been dashed by Indias withdrawal from the Talisman Sabre war games, said Ms Brownlie.
Cancellation of this practice for a war against China would be in the best interest for peace in our region, she said.
The next Talisman Sabre exercises are set to commence in Queensland, Northern Territory, and other states on 22 July. It will involve 30,000 troops, primarily from the US and Australia with smaller number from other countries., and it will be largest-ever joint war exercises.
These exercises are designed to develop the coordination between forces under US command in preparation for war. Every indication is that the preparation is for a war against China.
IPAN believes it is highly significant that India has recognized the purpose of this war exercise and decided to pull out of it, said Ms Brownlie.
IPAN supports the call by the Pacific Peace Network for cancellation of this war exercise which does nothing to promote peace in our region. To the contrary, it heightens tensions and raised the risk of an error or mishap that could trigger a break-out of hostilities in our region.

Concerns that mRNA injections could end up "in the global protein supply chain" prompted warnings from cattle producers and calls for mandatory country of origin labeling (MCOOL) so consumers can choose meat from countries that dont allow mRNA shots in meat animals.1 Backlash quickly ensued, with media spinning a familiar tune and trying to paint the valid concerns as "conspiracy theories," "fearmongering" and "misinformation."2
Cattle Groups Calls for Caution Over mRNA in Beef
In an April 2023 news release, Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America (R-CALF USA), a nonprofit that represents interests of independent U.S. cattle producers, shared concerns about the use of mRNA shots in meat animals.
Max Thornsberry, DVM, R-CALFs animal health committee chair, met with medial doctors and a molecular biologist before briefing the R-CALF USA board:3
"Thornsberry reported that some researchers have found that mRNA and its coded virus is likely passed from an injected human to a noninjected human, and to humans who have consumed dairy products or meat from an mRNA-injected animal.
He said that because the research on mRNA is still in its infancy, no one really knows the full impact it has on either humans or animals, particularly its long-term impact. He said this itself warrants more extensive mRNA research focused on safety, heightened public vigilance, and greater transparency."
In a commentary, R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard also urged caution regarding mRNA injections, stating:4
"Its not a vaccine as we typically understand vaccines. So, for the rest of this discussion, Ill refer to it as an injection. Its an injection of a laboratory-produced substance into humans or livestock that is coded with a particular virus, such as COVID-19, that produces an immune response against the particular virus.
And what does mRNA do? Well, it hijacks living cells, tricking them into producing some level of immunity against human viruses like COVID-19 and livestock viruses such as foot-and-mouth disease or lumpy skin disease. It does this by rewriting the instructions from the bodys DNA. And what are the potential risks to humans and livestock?

I also know how the speaker cover detaches from the cabinet holding the paper cones and it doesnt take much imagination for me to feel the texture of their cloth on my mouth.
That fabric is rough against my lips and gums with a bitter taste like dust.

Since the beginning of the War, Ukraine and Russia have agreed to let grain shipments travel through their shared body of water, The Back Sea. Yesterday President Putin failed to renew the deal, immediately halting all grain trade from Ukraine.
This aggressive political move will hurt the rest of the world. Still, most importantly, Ukrainian grain is sent to some of the most food-insecure countries, including Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Djibouti.
It is a cruel move from the Russians that may turn neutral parties into Ukrainian allies.
