And now for something completely different... (Roadshow time) "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Producer Prices ease

More good news on the inflation front overnight, with US annual producer price inflation falling from an alarming 11.2 per cent a year ago, to just 0.1 per cent over the year to June 2023.

The declines have been consistent over each of the past 12 months.

Producer prices for are goods are now outright declining.

Source: BLS

This is something to watch out for in Australia: falling goods prices ahead, but services prices may be stickier.

Import and exports prices have both declined significantly, while the consumer price and producer price indices are at their lowest levels since May and August 2020 respectively.

Surely the Fed's job is almost done now...

All change

The Other Side of Eternity. "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

The other side of eternity.

There is an eternity on the other side of sleep,

Where reason has no measure and time cannot be kept,

And the shunting of responsibility is left to desire.

Here lies an eternity that heeds no governing law.

Obeys no geography, nor toes any line we draw.

*

We wonder what the ancients did before time was measured,

Before clocks and sundials, before lucre was treasured,

What they did in a leisure hour after food was eat,

Perhaps pleasure most valued then was to have a damn good sleep?

To sleep and let the day go by and wander into a dream,

Perhaps THAT was the boredom stopper most valued and esteemed.

*

What sort of world is created where we yet have no option,

But to bend our necks to a yoke to become anothers yoked oxen,

All our waking hours delivered to never-ending obligation,

Of earning keep, paying debt, poor and homeless, ever the motivation.

An endless treadmill of unceasing work to earn our daily bread,

Time managed to infinity till we suddenly discover we are dead!

*

So whatever happened to our dreamtime, that we all once had,

The mythology, characters from stories, heroic or just plain mad,

Must our dreams turn into those nightmares of reality TV,

Or can we take a moment to reflect on how it may be?

Perhaps first resurrect our poetry from cynical repartee,

Fadden uncovers LNP plans for Queensland crime forum

Queenslands largest legal organised crime syndicate, the Liberal National Party, heads to the mattresses this Saturday to defend its territory in Fadden. Darren Crawford reports on the LNP's latest plans to further normalise political corruption.

Let's take a deep dive into what some of the candidates had to say and have a look at just what is really in play in what should be a soft win for the next man up.

The next man up

I arrive at the Paradise Point Community Centre just ahead of time and line up with the rest of the oldies.

A bloke in a wheelchair rolls up and starts telling the bloke in front of me that gubberment overreach is killin Straylia. He offers me a pamphlet, which I decline. Vis By-election will cost us $150,000, he says, they should refund that money. He doesnt say who they are nor does he say who the money should be given to. If this cooker reflects what is happening inside, I decide, this is going to get interesting.

Once inside, I hide up the back and I can see that the crowd of about 100 people is mostly Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) blue, with a smattering of Australian Labor Party (ALP) fans, Pauline Hanson's One Nation supporters (PHON) and a handful of cookers, like old mate outside. There are plenty of franking credits to be found in here, and regardless of colour, LNP candidate, and current local City of Gold Coast Councillor for this area (Division 4), Cameron Caldwell is their man.

The Fadden electorate takes in six different council divisions and four state electorates, all of which are represented by the LNP (except for the state seat of Gaven, which is headed by the ALPs Meaghan Scanlon, and indepe...

Barnaby bites back after sandwich-board encounter in Fadden

Stuart Robert MP's Robodebt legacy writs large on the ground of the Fadden By-election, such that glad-handing from Australia's "best retail politician", Barnaby Joyce, was required. Investigations editor Ross Jones reports.

BARNABY JOYCE seems a very sensitive man. Touchy even.

Not surprising  hes had a tough couple of years, with new mouths to feed and the rug so recently rudely pulled from the gravy train.

But hes a tough old nut and soldiering on is what you do.

A bit like Fermis Paradox  which asks, If there are aliens where the bloody hell are they?  the Fadden By-election has been very thin on the ground for Coalition MPs. Seems Opposition Leader Peter Dutton turned up once, but thats about it.

Stuart "Robodebt" Robert darent show his face because of the public derision that would ensue, so Barnaby stepped up to the mark, glad-handing in support of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tates favourite, Gold Coast Councillor and LNP candidate for Fadden, Cameron Caldwell.

There are few places more desperate than polling booths when the date closes in. Volunteers, many as mad as cut snakes, mill in search of action, thrusting leaflets at passers-by and waving at cars.

Into this fray barged Barnaby.

He and Cameron embarked on a minder-organised walk especially for TV only to be photo-bombed by a volunteer wearing a very minor party-logo...

Single-member council wards rolling out in Victoria "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Victoria is continuing the process of reviewing its local council wards, and since my last update in May, we have started to see proposed ward boundaries for those councils that are being forced to switch to single-member wards following legislative change in 2020 which mandated single-member wards for most urban councils and some regional cities.

Unsurprisingly, some of these single-member wards look completely ridiculous.

Some of these wards cover tiny areas, and the VEC has unsurprisingly had difficulty drawing wards of similar sizes, which will probably force more frequent redistributions over time. For some regional cities, maps have been proposed that involve wedges that dont represent any real community of interest within the council area.

In theory, the review process is meant to provide multiple options, but for the second wave of councils, every option involves single member wards. The independent process doesnt give participants any real choice.

For the first wave, 12 regional councils were reviewed. For each council, an option of electing all councillors at large was proposed, along with a model with 2-4 wards electing 2-4 councillors each, with all wards electing the same number of councils. In some of the councils, a single-member ward structure was also proposed. That review process has concluded, and the final report has been submitted to the Minister, but we dont know which options were chosen.

The second wave involves 16 councils, with the proposed ward boundaries being released for four councils a week over a four-week period. The first twelve are now out, with the last four due out next week.

In theory, theres some choice about which model is chosen. Seven of these councils have three different ward maps proposed. Four others have two options. For some reason Yarra only has a single ward map.

The council wards are meant to fall within 10% of the average enrolment per ward, but thats not much of a range when youre drawing such a small ward.

Unsurprisingly, in small councils you need to draw quite small wards. Most of the councils in the second wave have been regional cities, but proposed wards have been published for the Melbourne councils of Yarra and Frankston. The Yarra map is a glaring example of the absurdity of the system.

Votes against the Voice will return us to White Australia "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Votes against the Voice will return us to White Australia

Voting against the Voice to Parliament is a promotion of racism and a revival of the White Australia policy of the past, writes Henry Johnston.

IM NOT SURE what shocked me the most: the cockroaches scurrying out of my dead mothers spare room, or finding an unframed oil painting hidden amidst the musty clutter of a rickety old cupboard.

There are nights when I wake at 3:00 A.M. in a funk, startled by the memories of that sad afternoon rummaging through bundles of frail and faded goods. But I slip back into a doze by thinking of the painting, which shimmers with light as effervescent as when delicate strokes first touched the small canvas, guided by the hand of an amateur artist, those decades ago.

The scene is sweet and simple. To the left of the frame, the fronds of three healthy coconut palms sway in the afternoon sea breeze. Dense foreshore scrub girdles the lower portion of their trunks, as cycad quatrefoils struggle through impenetrable undergrowth, seeking the sun. A sward edges toward a warm tropical white-capped blue, ruffled by the offshore wind. I can almost smell the rotting seaweed on the beach and recall a primal caution to look out for oyster shell clustered rocks underfoot.

I am drawn to four seabirds, hovering on the updraft, eyeing those rocks, scattered along a glimpse of sandy beach. The frigate birds, or man-o-war, soar above the bay in search of prey. Five smaller mates are suspended to the right of my sight and draw my gaze to a two-masted yacht, which completes the paintings foreground.

Four banks of whitish-grey clouds tower above the works dramatic locus,  a distant long island, offset by a curved rise that could be an extinct volcanic peak and dominating the low, distant horizon. And it is this faraway land that locates the artist on the mainland foreshore, painting his homeland.

Though small and almost unseen, the yacht is the artists conduit to the object of his longing  his country. If only he could be aboard, sailing toward the land almost hidden beneath pearly clouds. But his yearning is not to be fulfilled.

How do I know this? Because the painting was a gift to my mother for her kindness. And I remember the artists name, or nickname.

He was called Elvis. Young, good-looking, with longish bla...

TODAY. Zelensky mania ! But are cracks appearing in NATO? "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Volodymyr Zelensky gave a stirring address to thousands of adoring fans in Vilnius, Lithuania.

He was at the top of his game which is whipping up enthusiasm for the coming grand military defeat of Russia.

The NATO summit, though full of adoration for the sainted Zelensky, was just a little less unified in its holy purpose.

Perhaps hole -ey purpose would be more accurate

You see while it is holy dogma now, that Ukraine must become part of NATO, -the hole in this dogma is becoming apparent. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg spelled it out: Ukraine can join NATO only when Ukraine wins the war against Russia because unless Ukraine prevails, there is no membership to be discussed at all.

But of course no problem!

But wait there is a problem Ukraine is not winning this war. That is a realisation that is slowly dawning on some European leaders.

There probably never has been such a media magician as Volodymyr Zelensky. He has put it over politicians, journalists, people world-wide, and especially the suffering people of Ukraine.

But will Biden, Macron, Sunak and the rest just dump Zelensky, when his magic bubble bursts, when its all over in Ukraine, and they are forced to accept a negotiated peace with Russia?

That eventual negotiation is better than the other alternative World War 3.

Indonesia Warns Nuclear Weapons Put Southeast Asia a Miscalculation Away From Disaster "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Indonesias Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi urged nuclear weapons states to join ASEANs regional nuclear-free zone.

The Diplomat, By Edna Tarigan and Niniek Karmini, July 12, 2023

Indonesias top diplomat warned Tuesday of the threat posed by nuclear weapons, saying that Southeast Asia is one miscalculation away from apocalypse and pressing for world powers to sign a treaty to keep the region free from such arms.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi raised the alarm ahead of a two-day summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which started later Tuesday in Jakarta. The agenda would spotlight Myanmars deadly civil strife, continuing tensions in the South China Sea, and efforts to fortify regional economies amid the global headwinds set off by Russias invasion of Ukraine.

Later in the week, the 10-nation bloc will meet Asian and Western counterparts, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Chinese foreign policy overseer Wang Yi.

The U.S.-China rivalry is not formally on ASEANs agenda but looms large over the meetings of the bloc, an often-unwieldy collective of democracies, autocracies, and monarchies, with some members split over allegiances either to Washington or Beijing.

We cannot be truly safe with nuclear weapons in our region, Marsudi told fellow ASEAN ministers. With nuclear weapons, we are only one miscalculation away from apocalypse and global catastrophe.

In 1995, ASEAN states signed a treaty that declared Southeast Asias commitment to be a nuclear weapon-free zone, one of five in the world. However, Marsudi lamented that none of the worlds leading nuclear powers have signed on to the pact and called for renewed efforts to convince those states to sign up. The threat is imminent, so we can no longer play a waiting game, she said.more https://thediplomat.com/2023/07/indonesia-warns-nuclear-weapons-put-southeast-asia-a-miscalculation-away-from-disaster/

SCOTT RITTER: NATO Summit, a Theater of the Absurd "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

The scope and scale of the Ukrainian military defeat is such that the focus of many NATO members appears to be shifting from the unrealistic goal of strategically defeating Russia to a more realistic objective of bringing about a cessation to the conflict that preserves Ukraine as a viable nation state.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the NATO summit. However, his demands for NATO membership will not be met.

Normalizing failure might best describe the best that NATO can accomplish in Vilnius.

By Scott Ritter, Consortium News, July 10, 2023

The unfulfilled goals and objectives from last years meeting in Madrid loom over the Atlantic military alliance. When the membership meets in Vilnius this week, normalizing failure might best describe the most that can be accomplished.

The leaders of NATOs 31 constituent member states have begun to assemble in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, for the alliances 33rd summit, an event that has come to symbolize the military organizations increasingly difficult task of transforming political will into tangible reality.

Since the Wales Summit of 2014, when NATO made Russia a top priority in the aftermath of the Russian annexation of Crimea, and the Warsaw Summit of 2016, when NATO agreed to deploy battlegroups on the soil of four NATO members (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland) in response to perceived Russian aggression in the region, Russia has dominated the NATO agenda and, by extension, its identity.

The Vilnius summit promises to be no different in this regard.

One of the major issues confronting the NATO leadership is that the Vilnius summit operates under the shadow of last years Madrid summit, convened in late June in the aftermath of Russias initiation of military operations against Ukraine.

The Madrid summ...

USA cannot sell nuclear submarines to Australia "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Good news on nukes: US cant sell Australia nuclear subs, Pearls an Irritations, By Brian Toohey Jul 12, 2023

The good news is the US cant sell Australia the three to five used Virginia class nuclear subs that the Albanese government has announced it will buy. Nor will it sell us any new ones.

The chief of US Naval operations Admiral Michael Gilday was recently reported from Washington as saying the US shipyards are only producing subs at a rate of about 1.2 a year. He says a minimum of two a year is needed to fill the Navys own requirements. Until then, he said, Were not going to be in a position to sell any to the Australians. A senior Biden advisor, Kurt Campbell added there was also a troublingly large number of submarines in drydock that needed to be back into the water quickly.

If Albanese were genuinely a good friend of America, he would say, We dont want to deprive you of any nuclear submarines, so well buy readily available conventional subs that serve our needs. Instead of grabbing this chance to get out of an imposs...

Dont Bring A Knife To A Gun Fight Or Piers Morgan To An Interview With Noam Chomsky "IndyWatch Feed National"

It started with Piers Morgans trademark sycophancy, introducing the giant left-wing intellectual Noam Chomsky as in my view, one of the great minds of our generation. Which is of course, hard to argue Chomsky is a genius. But before you could say UK phone hacking scandal, things started to head south as it became clear Morgan was in way over his head.

Without wishing to spoil any of Chomskys slap downs of Morgan for asking extraordinarily stupid, loaded alternative fact style questions, as an example, when asked about Chinas intent to invade Taiwan, Chomsky replied: I would suggest distinguishing between western propaganda, and the facts. And when Morgan had a second crack at it, But I would like to describe the world situation as it is, not as its presented by US-British propaganda.

Morgan also raised mad man Vladimir Putins motivations for the war in Ukraine (which he claimed were about restoring the great Russian empire), asking Chomsky what should we do? The first thing we do is try to be clear about the facts. Vladimir Putin said it was a disaster for the Soviet Union to be destroyed, but he added Anyone who thinks it can be restored is out of his mind. That part of the quotation is not given in the West.

So Morgan tried to switch to more familiar ground the culture wars, and specifically, the assault on free speech, with things like teaching critical race theory to children. You can guess how that went.

The interview was going so badly, Morgan was forced to retreat to questions like, What big unanswered question do you have about the universe?

Needless to say, Chomsky made it clear he was uninterested in talking himself or his private life. The video is almost 40 minutes long, but its a masterclass in what happens when a right-wing fluff merchant tries to interview someone with deep knowledge of global politics.

Climate Change: Overturned "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Last December, Labour made the first in a series of terrible climate decisions, over-ruling Climate Change Minister James Shaw and the Climate Change Commission to sabotage the ETS by setting excessively high volumes and low prices. The result was immediate: the carbon price crashed from ~$85/ton and began a long-term decline (which has only worsened as Labour has done more to undermine it). But today, thanks to Lawyers for Climate Action, that decision has been overturned:

Today the High Court gave judgment in favour of Lawyers for Climate Action NZ Inc in a judicial review of the Regulations which set the number of additional Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) units available over the next five years and imposed various price restrictions. The Regulations are referred to as the Climate Change (Auctions, Limits, and Price Controls for Units) Amendment Regulations 2022 and were made in December 2022.

The judgment means that the Minister of Climate Change must now reconsider the unit limit and price control settings for 2023 to 2027 by 30 September 2023.

The decision was by consent - Shaw accepted that his decision-making process was flawed, and that he did not have reasonable grounds to conclude that Labour's preferred settings were lawful and in accordance with our emissions budgets or Paris NDC. Which means they will have to be re-made. The government is currently considering settings for 2024 - 2028, and this decision will neatly allow them to bypass the statutory requirements for changing the settings for the next two years (since those requirements were met or irrelevant for 2024 and 2025 respectively).

This is a significant victory for the climate, and a significant defeat for chickenshit, sabotaging Labour. And hopefully it'll help set a convention in future of always following the Climate Commission, rather than trying to over-rule it. We all owe Lawyers for Climate Action a debt of gratitude. Media bias even from the ABC on full display at Fadden By-election "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Media bias even from the ABC on full display at Fadden By-election

Amounting to election interference, the mainstream media including the ABC have swanned in and out of the Fadden by-election pre-poll, ignoring all candidates except LNP and Labor. Independent Australia discusses the undemocratic details with some of the candidates in our exclusive pre-poll coverage.

Caused by the resignation of scandal-ridden LNP Member and Morrison confidante, Stuart Robert, the Fadden By-election should be newsworthy. Obvious biases aside, its expected that the Fourth Estate would nonetheless make a show of treating all 13 candidates equally. Certainly, the public broadcaster whose charter is to provide comprehensive coverage in the public interest should at least attempt to fulfil its duty.

But of course, we live in a country where media concentration is so blatant and the public broadcaster is so in step with the media moguls, no one even bothers to pretend otherwise.

When the media crew arrived at the pre-polling, a Legalise Cannabis Queensland booth volunteer asked whether they would be interviewing all the candidates:

I approached the Channel 9 female reporter and asked if they were interviewing all the parties present. The reporter replied, No were only paid to interview the Labor and Liberal party. Weve been told not to interview anyone else. My other team member approached ABC and was told something similar Only the major parties today.

When questioned on this matter, Australian Citizens Party campaign manager Ian Oliver told IA:

It made me very angry because we are supposed to be a nation of equality where everyone gets a fair go, where everyone in politics gets to state their message and let the voters decide.

AFTINET Submission to the Inquiry into Australias Human Rights Framework "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

July 13, 2023: The Australian government has launched an inquiry to review the scope and effectiveness of Australias Human Rights Framework and assess whether improvements can be made.

There has been strong civil society support for a reform of Australias Human Rights Framework, particularly for a new Federal Human Rights Act or Charter.

AFTINETs submission shows the profound impact of trade and investment agreements on human rights related to environment, gender, indigenous peoples, labour, health and access to essential services. The submission recommends Australias new human rights mechanism, in whatever form this takes, be capable of evaluating the impact of trade and investment agreements on human rights before they are signed and include enforceable commitments to internationally recognised human rights, labour rights and environmental standards for Australia and other signatory countries.

The 4th Industrial Revolution - We are all alone together "IndyWatch Feed National"

Ants respond to isolation in a similar way to humans. Studies reveal changes in social and hygienic behaviors in ants subjected to isolation from their groups. Another interesting finding has to do with the fact that immune and stress genes are severely downgraded in the brains of isolated ants. This makes the immune system less efficient, which has also been observed in isolated humans.

Socialization, physical contact and the ability to do the things we like are vitally important to the health and well-being of humans. Isolation can be very stressful leading to rapid decline in a person's mental and physical health. Isolated individuals become lonely, depressed, anxious and more easily prone to addictions. Their immune systems become weakened, which also negatively impacts their overall health and resistance to diseases.

There is also an additional unexpected consequence observed in one particular species of ants, which lasts beyond the term of social deprivation - the loss of interest in their adult colony mates, a rather alarming finding in the context of social distancing practices, lockdowns and isolation during Covid.

The artificially manufactured identity crisis aims at destroying traditions, cultural norms, and established value systems in order to leave humanity a blank slate susceptible and open to new trends and iterations. Our environment, habitats and urban organization are also subject to targeted infrastructure upgrades, alterations, and technological manipulations, all incrementally and strategically executed in accord with the unfolding social reformations. The purpose of this exercise is part of an ongoing social engineering experiment designed to undo and remake the fabric of society, and deliver us to the frontiers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, trapped in the Digital Panopticon - ALL ALONE TOGETHER.

WE ARE THE TEST SUBJECTS IN THIS ONGOING GLOBAL SOCIAL ENGINEERING EXPERIMENT!

Off to the Poorhouse We Go! "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

The last administration alone the last guy who served in this office for four years increased the total national debt by 40% in just four years.

Joe Biden, remarks on the national debt ceiling in Valhalla, NY, 10 May

Fox News leads off:

The US national debt has increased by US$1 trillion in the five weeks since President Biden signed a bill into law that effectively turns off the debt ceiling until 2025.

On 3 June, however, Biden signed legislation reflecting negotiations with House Republicans that requires a small spending cut next year and allows unlimited federal borrowing until 2025. With no debt ceiling in effect, federal borrowing jumped more than US$350 billion in a single day and crossed the US$32 trillion mark in less than two weeks.

Whee! Its hi-hoand off to the poorhouse we go!

A dereliction of duty

And whos to blame? Donald Trump, who cut taxes and increased spending more than any president in history? Or Lyndon Johnson, who set the stage for the US rush to bankruptcy with his guns and butter programs a war in Vietnam and the Great Society at home.

Or was it Ronald Reagan? Or Barack Obama?

Or all those clowns in the House of Representatives who are supposed to be watching over our money?

They dropped the ball. The Constitution gave them the power of the purse. But theyve been derelict in their duty to protect the finances of the US Government. And now, heres the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget:

federal spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow to 29.1% over the next three decades. Driving a large part of that growth is spending on interest payments to service the national debt.

Net interest payments hit a nominal dollar record of US$475 billion in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 and will nearly triple by FY 2033 to US$1.4 trillion, growing to US$2.7 trillion by 2043 and to US$5.4 trillion by 2053. As a share of the economy, net interest will rise from 1.9% of GDP in FY 2022 to hit a record 3.2% by 2030 and more than double to 6.7% by 2053.

By 2051, spending on interest will be the single largest line item in the federal budget, surpassing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all other mandatory and discretionary spending programs.

Tooth Discolouration: What Causes It and How You Can Prevent It "IndyWatch Feed National"

We all want a bright and healthy smile. But sometimes, tooth discolouration gets in the way. Tooth discolouration is the staining or darkening of your teeth, and can have a variety of underlying causes. Today, well dive into all that you need to know about tooth discolouration and what you can do to get that radiant smile back.

The Type of Tooth Discolouration

  • Extrinsic DiscolourationExtrinsic discolouration refers to when the outer layer of the tooth, known as the enamel, becomes stained or discoloured. This is usually caused by external environmental factors, such as consuming certain foods and beverages.
  • Intrinsic DiscolourationIntrinsic discolouration begins inside your tooth and affects the layer underneath your enamel called dentin. Common causes include dental trauma and some medications.

Common Causes of Tooth Discolouration

  • Food and Drinks

Dark-coloured food and drinks like coffee, cola and red wine contain pigments that can adhere to the enamel of your teeth over time. Regular consumption without a proper oral hygiene routine can eventually lead to intrinsic staining over time.

  • Tobacco Use

Smoking or chewing tobacco products can cause significant tooth discolouration. This is because the nicotine and tar found inside them can penetrate the enamel, resulting in persistent stains that are stubborn and hard to remove.

  • Poor Oral Hygiene

Poor oral hygiene, generally due to a lack of brushing or flossing, can lead to a buildup of plaque and tatar on your teeth. This will eventually lead to discolouration and abnormally high amounts of bacteria in your mouth, resulting in tooth decay and intrinsic staining.

Unavoidable Causes

  • AgeingAs we get older, our tooth enamel gets thinner and thinner. This exposes the dentin hiding underneath, which has a yellow hue and can lead to your teeth appearing discoloured with age.
  • GeneticsThe natural colour, brightness and translucency of your teeth are different for everyone, and can be heavily influenced by genetics.
  • Dental TraumaDamage to your teeth caused by anything from car crashes to sports-related injuries can cause trauma that then leads to discolouration.
  • Health ConditionsCertain health conditions such as liver disease, celiac disease and eating disorders can cause a higher chance of teeth discolouration occurring.

How to Combat the Next Wave of Inflation "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

International globalists have long prided themselves as the elites who rule the world.

For years, they have leveraged governments, banks, multinational corporations, knowledge/cultural/non-government institutions and mass media to implement their egalitarian agenda, dividing society and taking away many peoples liberties.

It used to be a conspiracy theory, but the truth is now out into the open.

They want to roll out a digital currency, track and control your consumption patterns, remove borders, redefine words, censor dissent and strip away property rights.

All this to bring upon their utopia.

They even have a name for it, The Great Reset.

It seeks to change life and society as we know it and move us into a Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Luckily for mankind, many are already resisting. The globalist movement has been dealt a fatal blow.

Right now theyre downbut not out.

Their demise depends on how many in the world whove lived as sheep find their true identity and come out to fight and defeat these packs of wolves.

Have you found your inner lion?

The silent treachery of the ruling class

The events like the outbreak of the Wuhan virus, the US 2020 election, media censorship, and the rise and fall of the woke agenda revealed the hypocrisy of the overlords advocating free speech, freedom, equality and peace, though allowing their actions to take these away.

The people once trusted that their leaders acted in their best interest. All that changed as they watched these people fly around the world to congregate and pontificate their ideals as well as enrich themselves while th...

NATO's talk of further Asian engagement should be feared by Australia

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has undermined its mission to foster stability, becoming a vessel of U.S. power. Where NATO goes, war is most likely Australia should take note, writes Dr Binoy Kampmark.

SINCE THE end of the Cold War, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has distinctly strayed from its original purpose. It has become, almost shamelessly, the vessel and handmaiden of U.S. power, while its burgeoning expansion eastwards has done wonders to upend the applecart of stability.

From that upending, the Alliance started bungling. It engaged, without the authorisation of the United Nations Security Council, in a 78-day bombing campaign of Yugoslavia at least what was left of it ostensibly to protect the lives of Kosovar Albanians. Far from dampening the tinderbox, the Kosovo affair continues to be an explosion in the making.

Members of the Alliance also expended material, money and personnel in Afghanistan over the course of two decades, propping up a deeply unpopular, corrupt regime in Kabul while failing to stifle the Taliban. As with previous imperial projects, the venture proved to be a catastrophic failure.

In 2011, NATO was again found wanting in its attack on the regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. While it was intended to be an exemplar of the Responsibility to Protect doctri...

Labour won't tax the banks either "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Buried under yesterday's chickenshit announcement by Chris Hipkins that Labour won't support a wealth tax so long as he is leader is another example of Labour chickenshittery: they won't tax the banks either, despite them making "supernormal" profits:

The big four Australian-owned banks avoided a windfall tax on their Covid-era profits partly because Treasury could find no clear evidence their supernormal profits at the time were out of line with their standard supernormal profits.

Budget documents released on Wednesday showed the Government considered, the decided against, levying a windfall profits tax on banks to help pay for the rebuild in Hawkes Bay following devastation in February from Cyclone Gabrielle.

They also show Treasury officials told the Government that while big bank profits had increased in the Covid era: We have not identified clear evidence for windfall profits, on top of the sectors usual elevated level of profitability.

...which seems to be a strong argument for a perpetual windfall tax on bank profits, to tame these rapacious parasites. But instead, Labour decided to do nothing, as usual. So, they won't tax the rich, they won't tax the banks, but they'll cry "poverty" when anyone voices basic expectations about a functioning state or public services. But they're not "poor" - just too stupid, weak, and craven to govern effectively.

Jacobin on how to perfect the architecture of control "IndyWatch Feed National"

My interview in US outlet, Jacobin, about my new book, The Palestine Laboratory. The conversation, conducted by Mattha Busby, covered a wide range of areas from Israeli spying to the role of the Zionist lobby:

Wars and occupations have long been testing grounds for technology, science, and surveillance. In a domain mostly controlled by the oppressor, subject populations are sure to find ingenious ways to rise up but their captors also find new ways to subjugate them. This is the reality in the occupied Palestinian territories, where Israel has maintained the longest occupation in modern times fifty-six years and counting.

The Israeli state and its closely aligned military-industrial complex writes its own rule book. Its soldiers watch as extremist Jewish settlers launch pogroms against Palestinians in the West Bank. Over one thousand Palestinians are held in indefinite detention without charge in Israeli jails.

Palestinian access to water is used as a potent state-controlled weaponfor the settler movement. Meanwhile, Israeli arms companies promote their weapons with real footage in which Palestinian children are left injured.

But in the court of international opinion, the tide is turning against Israel. In May, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories denounced the apartheid system over which colonial power Israel rules Palestinians. Tens of millions of dollars are sent from the United States by registered charities to bankroll illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, but the New York State Assembly will soon consider a bill that would prevent the tax-deductible practice.

NATO summit in Vilnius proved to be a major failure "IndyWatch Feed National"

Contributed from Victoria

The just concluded NATO summit in Vilnius ended by producing little, except to reveal uncertainty and lack of member unity. This was supposed to be a stage-managed affair, showing the world solid support for the Kyiv side of the war in Ukraine, and a determined launch of NATO presence in Asia. Neither was delivered.

Part of the problem was Kyiv leader Zelenskyys dig at NATO for not permitting Ukraine to join it at once. NATOs problem is that public support for backing him is weak, and NATO members are under political pressure. They are compelled to at least make what they do look good.

Besides waning public support, especially in Europe, for the war, there is the problem that Kyiv is supposed to meet the supposed democratic credentials for membership. This is awkward, when a range of political parties have been banned, political critics are being arrested, and pro-Nazi groups elevated. This is not a good look and NATO would have considerable difficulty selling it.

Then there is failure of the present offensive on the battlefield. As many as 26,000 soldiers in the past month, and most of its tanks, personnel carriers, and other advanced equipment. There is speculation that Zelenskyy knows he is not going to have a chance of winning without NATO putting boots into Ukraine and escalating to the use of nuclear weapons, and this is what he is ultimately pushing towards. In doing so, he is making NATO nervous and building divisions within it.

The decision of the United States to supply Ukraine with cluster bombs is unpopular and creates more difficulty for NATO.

Robodebt crimes: Who should pay and how?

Even when we consider Robodebt as dispassionate onlookers that is, people who did not have a loved one take their own life, or otherwise have their lives irreparably marred by this vicious campaign it is not possible to see it as anything but a crime against humanity.

And it was not a benign mistake.

And it was not a one-off thing.

We knew this back in 2017 when the first reports of the unfairness of the scheme emerged but were ignored.

We knew this when the Federal Court pronounced it unlawful a full two years later, in 2019.

And we knew it when the Morrison Government forged ahead, anyway, seemingly unperturbed by its illegality, let alone its devastating effects, even when these were detailed by legal professionals and publicly called out by the Australian Council of Social Services.

Approximately 443,000 people received these threatening notices demanding payment known as "robodebts". Victims were not even able to speak to anyone about their alleged debt and should someone actually manage to get a phone call through to the right department, all the relevant public servants were ordered to refer them back to the website. Never mind that they may not be able to navigate this process, or that their questions would likely still be ignored.

So the threats continued. And lets not beat around the bush, here. These were threats. Meant to be taken seriously. Designed to be menacing.

Resi building activity slows -20pc from highs "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Construction pipeline challenges

There's a lot of noise about building in the pipeline, and dwellings 'under construction', but of course many projects have been stalled, mothballed, or delayed, and every day there's a news story about another developer or building firm facing insolvency (three more in the past two days).

Overall, residential building activity, as measured in volume terms, has slowed by -19 per cent from the highs.

Capacity issues in the industry also haven't been helped by ongoing strength in infrastructure projects.

It's nevertheless true that the number of dwellings officially under construction remains high at around 240,000.

The number of detached houses under construction remains above 100,000, which is very high historically.

Attached dwelling commencements caught a bounce in the March quarter.

Overall, though, multi-unit commencements at just under 20,000 remained well down on their highs of of the 2015 to 2018 cycle, when commencements were running at 25-30k per quarter.

US inflation drops below 3pc "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Inflations slows again

US inflation was expected to come in at +0.3 per cent for June, and +3.1 per cent over the year.

The numbers were better than expected, with inflation for the month coming in at +0.2 per cent, and +3 per cent for the year.

In fact, as our own James Foster pointed out, inflation over the year was only +2.97 per cent.

Over 70 per cent of the increase was accounted for by the shelter component, which is enormously lagging, and much of the remainder was motor insurance.

I think this is something Australia will also see over the coming months - a dramatic rise in insurance costs contributing to inflation.

Except for used cars, goods price inflation in the US has effectively ceased to exist over the past few months.

There was all the usual "yeah, but..." commentary, but nevertheless it's been very heartening to see inflation drop from 9 per cent to under 3 per cent so quickly, even if the tailwind from the base effect has now concluded.

Down Under

Bond yields dropped sharply on the news, including in Australia - with a dovish speech from Reserve Bank Governor Lowe also helping to push yields lower over the past 24 hours, the Governor noting that further work from monetary policy may or may not be needed, depending on upcoming data flows.

Dutton wants Australia to join the nuclear renaissance "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

but this dream has failed before. My latest in The Conversation over the fold

Last week, opposition leader Peter Dutton called for Australia to join what he dubbed the international nuclear energy renaissance.

The same phrase was used 20 years ago to describe plans for a massive expansion of nuclear. New Generation III plants would be safer and more efficient than the Generation II plants built in the 1970s and 1980s. But the supposed renaissance delivered only a trickle of new reactors   barely enough to replace retiring plants.

If there was ever going to be a nuclear renaissance, it was then. Back then, solar and wind were still expensive and batteries able to power cars or store power for the grid were in their infancy.

Even if these new smaller, modular reactors can overcome the massive cost blowouts which inevitably dog large plants, its too late for nuclear in Australia. As a new report points out, nuclear would be wildly uncompetitive, costing far more per megawatt hour (MWh) than it does to take energy from sun or wind.

The nuclear renaissance that wasnt

Early in the 21st century, the outlook for nuclear energy seemed more promising than it had in years. As evidence on the dangers of global heating mounted, it became clear that the expansion of coal-fired power in the 1990s  especially in Asia  had been a mistake.

And despite the prevalence of slogans such as Solar not Nuclear, the cost of solar and wind energy was then too high to make fully renewable systems a reality.

The rise of Generation III and III+ designs promised to eliminate or at least greatly reduce the risk of accidents like those at Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.

The time seemed right for a nuclear renaissance  especially in the United States. Between 2007 and 2009, 13 companies applied for construction and operating licenses to build 31 new nucle...

The recent Jenin operation looks different when considering Palestine as a weapons laboratory "IndyWatch Feed National"

A strong review of my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, by writer Syndication Bureau (focusing solely on the Middle East).

An extract:

The occupation of Palestine is the most funded and resourced state project in Israels history. On the surface, the occupation has been sold as a temporary defensive measure necessary for Israels survival. However, it satisfies many other needs. Given the biblical connection to the West Bank, the occupation provides a religious veneer to the project of secular Zionism. Control over holy cities with deep meaning in Jewish religious history rallies Jews worldwide to support Israel and its government.

More importantly, Israels military control over an entire population has facilitated the creation of a lucrative weapons industry. In his new book, The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel Exports the Technology of Occupation Around the World, Australian journalist Antony Loewenstein has documented the intricate connection between the occupation of Palestine and the development of the modern weapons industry. Controlling millions of people requires more than a strong military. Israel has dominated virtually all aspects of Palestinian life with remarkable efficiency through a matrix of checkpoints, physical barriers, and advanced surveillance technologies.

Punch The Shark with Sweetie on Tuesday Arvos "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

  • Sweetie :: Interview with Jaimee Taylor-Nielsen

Lily Keenan and Rikki Clark make up half of local (self-described) devo-country-punk outfit Sweetie. The pair dropped by FBi Radio this week to chat to Jaimee Taylor-Nielsen on Tuesday Arvos. The conversation traversed their new EP Punch The Shark, the meaning behind its title track and the pros and cons of being in a band with a lifelong friend.

Sweetie released EP number two Punch The Shark in late June. As a body of work it portrays a new sense of confidence within the band. Sweetie found their voice on debut EP Collision and have well and truly unleashed it on their latest work. Lilys attitude towards the writing of the title track exemplifies this.

I just like the idea of lyrics that are sort of spitting at people. I wanted to embody that kind of energy.

The band describe the EPs title track as a resurrection song which sees Sweetie portrayed as a character. The persona in the song faces its fears, which manifest as a shark. Lily explained that the song can be linked to the band themselves, specifically their experience overcoming insecurities as musicians.

It was kind of like the first song that I wrote imagining Sweetie as a persona.
Starting this band was about stepping into a space that scared me and into something I didnt feel like I could do because I hadnt had a long past as a musician The persona in Punch The Shark and the persona of Sweetie is somebody who doesnt really care and is stepping into that space of power.

Rikki and Lily were the first members of Sweetie and thus the first to metaphorically jo...

These are not the Star Wars story bots you're looking for. "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Not sure how I missed the kerfuffle at Gizmodo, where managements insistence on running AI-generated copy started blowing chunks from the very first piece.

From WaPo:

A few hours after James Whitbrook clocked into work at Gizmodo on Wednesday, he received a note from his editor in chief: Within 12 hours, the company would roll out articles written by artificial intelligence. Roughly 10 minutes later, a story by Gizmodo Bot posted on the site about the chronological order of Star Wars movies and television shows.

Whitbrook a deputy editor at Gizmodo who writes and edits articles about science fiction quickly read the story, which he said he had not asked for or seen before it was published. He catalogued 18 concerns, corrections and comments about the story in an email to Gizmodos editor in chief, Dan Ackerman, noting the bot put the Star Wars TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the wrong order, omitted any mention of television shows such as Star Wars: Andor and the 2008 film also entitled Star Wars: The Clone Wars, inaccurately formatted movie titles and the storys headline, had repetitive descriptions, and contained no explicit disclaimer that it was written by AI except for the Gizmodo Bot byline.

Chaos ensued, with staff understandably concerned that their reputations would be fucked sideways just before they were all let go for a subscription to a robot copy service.

I feel their pain, bit I did enjoy the very human reaction to managements Slack message that the company was eager to thoughtfully gather and act on feedback There will be better stories, ideas, data projects and lists that will come forward as we wrestle with the best ways to use the technology.

Staff replied with 16 thumbs down emoji, 11 wastebasket emoji, six clown emoji, two face palm emoji and two poop emoji.

TODAY. Nuclear power is SO IRRELEVANT to climate! Its almost funny, -but its NOT funny. "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

Today, Australias Prime Minister is in Germany, to joining several counties, including other big carbon polluters, in a Climate Club to preach about zero carbon emissions by 2050.

2050? Its too late big boys!

The Australian big boys, like those of USA will pay lip service to a worthy principle but its pointless, because Climate Change better named as Global Heating is upon us NOW.

The job now is to slow the Global Heating process down by energy conservation, truly renewable energy. The job is also justice, fairness, global effort to help those most affected by the heat, floods, fires now raging.

Oh and what about nuclear power? And those stupid little small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs)?

Well, one or two of them might be working commercially by 2050, having no effect on climate change.

But of course, thats not the point, is it? Small nuclear reactors are for weaponry, for nuclear submarines etc. Those powerful blokes, (and a few token women) they love weaponry, high-technology for killing people war is such fun!

So they just lie about SMRs to solve climate change

Failed Fukushima Fixes Falling Like Dominoes "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

CounterPunch BY JOHN LAFORGE, 6 July, 23

Tepcos cost-avoidance on its sea wall was only the first in a string of failures that have followed like dominos. The corruption led in July 2022 to convictions of four top Tepco executives for negligence and a fine of $95 billion.

In the 12 years since the meltdowns, Tepcos disaster response efforts, always heralded as fixes, have been a series of hugely expensive failures: the advanced wastewater filter system ALPS has failed; the buried ice wall groundwater barrier has failed; containers made for the radioactive sludge produced by ALPS have failed; and plans to deal with millions of tons of collected debris now kept in plastic bags are being fiercely resisted by Japanese citizens.

Tons of cooling water is still being poured every day into Fukushimas triple reactor wrecks to keep the hot melted fuel from again running amok. Additionally, groundwater gushes through the reactors foundations countless cracks and breaks caused by the staggering earthquake into whats left of the structures sub-floors. All this water becomes highly radioactive as it passes over and through three giant masses totaling at least 880 tonnes of melted and mangled uranium and plutonium fuel.

You read that right. Fukushimas destroyed reactor No. 3 was using fuel made partly of plutonium (see below), and so plutonium contaminates not just the ground and cooling water running over the melted fuel, but the ALPS apparatus, its filters, the containers used to store the radioactive sludge extracted by ALPS, and of course the sludge itself. You would think that the word plutonium would appear occasionally in news coverage of this ongoing disaster.

Failed ALPS means million-tonne do-over

Tepcos jerry-rigged system dubbed Advanced Liquid Processing System or ALPS has never worked as planned. As early as 2013 the machinery was stalled. The ALPS system failed to reduce radioactive e...

Heatwaves: Why this (Northern) summer has been so hot "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

It is hot. Very hot. And we are only a few weeks into summer. Texas and
part of the south-west of the US are enduring a searing heatwave. At one
point, more than 120 million Americans were under some form of heat
advisory, the US National Weather Service said. That is more than one in
three of the total population.

In the UK, the June heat didnt just break
all-time records, it smashed them. It was 0.9C hotter than the previous
record, set back in 1940. That is a huge margin. There is a similar story
of unprecedented hot weather in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. No
surprise, then, that the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather forecasts
said that globally, June was the hottest on record. And the heat has not
eased. The three hottest days ever recorded were in the past week,
according to the EU climate and weather service, Copernicus.

These highs are in line with what climate models predicted, says Prof Richard Betts, climate scientist at the Met Office and University of Exeter.

We should not be at all surprised with the high global temperatures, he says. This is all a stark reminder of what weve known for a long time, and we will see ever more extremes until we stop building up more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

When we think about how hot it is, we tend to think about the air temperature, because thats what we experience in our daily lives.

But most of the heat stored near the surface of the Earth is not in the atmosphere, but in the oceans. And weve been seeing some record ocean temperatures this spring and summer.

The North Atlantic, for example, is currently experiencing the highest surface water temperatures ever recorded.

That marine heatwave has been particularly pronounced around the coasts of the UK, where some areas have experienced temperatures as much as 5C above what you would normally expect for this time of year

Most of the extra heat trapped by the build-up of greenhouse gases has gone into warming the surface ocean, he explains. That extra heat tends to get mixed downwards towards the deeper ocean, but movements in oceans currents like El Nio can bring it back to the surface.

When that happens, a lot of that heat gets released into the atmosphere, says Prof Lenton, driving up air temperatures.

Its easy to think of this exceptionally hot weather as unusual, but the...

Safe or septic Japans nuclear wastewater dumping "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

RNZ, From The Detail, Tom Kitchin, co-host of The Detail @inkitchnz tom.kitchin@rnz.co.nz 11 July 23

There are diplomatic headaches and heated scientific debates after Japan revealed plans to dump the wastewater its been using to cool the Fukushima nuclear power plant  in the Pacific.

Sea and ground water has been used to cool the damaged reactors, and now theres about 1.3 million tonnes of that sitting in tanks while the Japanese government and plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) figure out what to do with it.

They want to release the wastewater into the ocean  diluting all the cancer-causing nuclear fission products out of it  such as caesium, which can build up in muscles, strontium-90 which can build up in bones and iodine-129 which can build up in the thyroid.

. journalist Nic Maclellan, a Melbourne-based correspondent with Islands Business Magazine, tells The Detail.

The Pacific Islands Forum has been especially critical, and appointed an independent scientific panel to investigate safety issues around the proposed dumping, he says.

The panel has raised a series of issues around the quality of the sampling, the cost of the sampling, the cost of the programme over decades, the maintenance of safety sampling and the fact that they really dont know whether Japan can maintain the quality that will stop other radioactive isotopes being released into the ocean.

There are also questions over whether the wastewater dump is a breach of the Treaty of Rarotonga, signed in 1985, which created a South Pacific nuclear-free zone.

It was largely about nuclear weapons, but article seven talks about preventing nuclear waste dumping.

Japan has been acting as if these safety concerns are not serious and its taken a lot of pressure for Japan to be dragged kicking and screaming into addressing questions, many of which are still unresolved, Maclellan says.

Bowen: Australia will be renewable energy superpower, not a nuclear backwater "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

ReNewEconomy, Giles Parkinson 7 July 2023

Federal energy minister Chris Bowen has slammed Opposition leader Peter Duttons call for nuclear power in Australia, saying they are slow to build, impossible expensive and not needed in Australia.

Here we go again, Bowen told reporters after a meeting of state and federal climate and energy ministers in Tasmania on Friday, where the main topics of discussion were the new capacity investment scheme to help storage and a fast connections process for wind and solar.

Mr. Dutton shows he does not understand renewable energy, Bowen said.

He did not get the memo from the Australian people last year, when they threw out his climate denying government.

He has not changed and I say this. Peter Dutton as prime minister would be worse for the climate than Scott Morrison. And that takes him doing. The man who carried a lump of coal into the House of Representatives was better on climate than Peter Dutton. Thats the low bar that Peter Dutton has managed to get below.

Bowen mocked Duttons reference of both small nuclear reactors and micro nuclear reactors, neither of which exist in commercial form anywhere in the world.

The nuclear for Australia committee called for 80 of these things where will they go? What will the cost be?

Some of his own party have acknowledged they cost $10 billion each. The only thing small about a small modular reactor is its output. nothing small about its cost.

:His deputy Mr. Littleproud, the leader of the National Party, said it wouldnt cost a cent which will come as a considerable surprise surprise to the nuclear industry that theyre going to build them for free.

Hipkins surrenders "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Last month, the Greens kicked off their election campaign, proposing a wealth tax on the ultra-rich. Its a good, sensible policy: the New Zealand state is decrepit and run-down, with everything falling apart and failing after decades of austerity. A wealth tax would give it the money it needs to be able to do the things we want it to do: schools, hospitals, a welfare system that ends poverty and ensures human dignity.

So, you'd expect Labour, the party of ordinary kiwis who rely on those public services, to support this, right? Of course not:

Labour will not propose a wealth tax or a capital gains tax at the election, Labour leader Chris Hipkins said overnight on Wednesday.

Im confirming today that under a Government I lead there will be no wealth or capital gains tax after the election. End of story.

He said now is simply not the time for a big shake-up of our tax system.

And so Labour, "the party of the workers", has sided with the ultra-rich to fuck over normal people, as usual. But then, should we really expect anything different from a man paid $471,049 a year, who owns three houses? Bluntly, he's not one of us - he's one of them. Of course he stands for their interests rather than ours.

Obviously, we have MMP, so this is really a question of the balance of power between Labour and the Greens and Te Pti Mori after the election. But Hipkins' announcement today means that that might not be an issue. He's basicly told voters to fuck off, he's not going to offer us anything - just the awful, unequal, rusting status quo. There's no hope for a better future under Labour. So why bother voting for them?

The clear message from this announcement is that if you want change, you need to vote for the Greens or Te Pati Mori. As for Labour, a party which offers its voters literally nothing deserves to lose.

Tassie's Tall Trees under threat

Logging and bushfires have decimated giant gum trees in Tasmania. Unless we seriously tackle climate change, Australia stands to lose these biological treasures, writes Henry Johnston.

I PASS A milestone this year. A pointer to a life fulfilled. A time of reckoning.

Somewhere it is written, humans are allotted threescore and ten years. As I think back on this gift, I recall the joys of my life on this planet as it spins in silence through the Milky Way.

Other non-human companions, whose life force makes my sweet time appear inconsequential, remind me of the fragility of existence.

I gazed upon them yesterday in Tasmania's Hartz Mountains down by Geeveston Town. But today, I learnt of a threat to companion trees, silent and majestic, in the far-off Mount Field National Park via Maydena, west of Hobart and towards the south from New Norfolk.

The first threat, the ever-present menace of logging, elicits passionate arguments for and against, but recent disastrous fires seem forgotten, probably because of a convenient trick we humans employ to bypass certain certainties. If it is out of sight, so, it is out of mind. And I am told our home, the blue planet, experienced its hottest day since records began.

Both locales  the Hartz Mountains, bifurcated by the dark flowing Huon River and the Styx Tall Trees Conservation Area, watered by the gurgling Tyenna   bear the scars of two recent misfortunes.

As I write, it is difficult to dismiss the vision of thousands of matchstick-like trees in the Hartz M...

With some 20 studio albums, 14 EPs, five live albums, six compilation albums and 22 singles behind them most released on their own A Records the band is nothing if not prolific. Since taking shape in San Fransisco in the early 90, The Brian Jonestown Massacre has built a reputation as a staple of the scene.

Their most recent release, The Future Is Your Past, came out in February this year and received praise from critics. The bands previous release, 2022s Fire Doesnt Grow On Trees, sprung up from an intense period for Newcombe as the artist wrote one song a day for 70 days during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bringing together elements of kaleidoscopic rock and droning shoegaze with an experimental edge, the music that emerged from this period just added to the rich discography that makes up the legend of The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Since coming out of the pandemic, the band has toured throughout the US and Europe. Theyre all set to bring their mesmerising show down under this summer.

Tickets to see The Brian Jonestown Massacre will go on sale on July 6. Get yours here.

Two stern warnings must be given to the arrogant NATO "IndyWatch Feed National"

Two stern warnings must be given to the arrogant NATO: Global Times editorial

Global Times Editorial

July 12, 2023: Information Clearing House -- The NATO summit is being held in Vilnius, Lithuania, from Tuesday to Thursday. The meeting focuses on plans to "counter the threat" from Russia, including discussions on NATO's expansion and Ukraine's future membership to NATO. Meanwhile, NATO's strategic impulse to meddle in the Asia-Pacific region is also imminent at this summit. Expanding cooperation with the four "Asia-Pacific partners" - Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand - is another major topic of the summit. In this regard, the US media boldly stated that NATO is trying to "deter China's strategic ambitions."

This is the second year that Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand have been invited to the NATO summit. In order to firmly rope in these four countries, NATO imitated the "Quad" mechanism of the US, Japan, India and Australia at last year's summit, and specially created a new name for these four countries called "Asia-Pacific Four (AP4)." This aims to institutionalize the cooperation between these four countries and NATO, and make them de facto new allies of "NATO+" in the Asia-Pacific region. According to sources, the joint statement to be issued in Vilnius will change the name of AP4 to "Indo-Pacific Four (IP4)," which is undoubtedly more in line with Washington's tone.

There are 31 NATO members, but they have never been monolithic and have different views on many international issues. However, they are in general dominated by the will of the US. Now they have been kidnapped by the panic and tension instigated by the US, becoming "Washington's axe, spears and shovels." Wherever NATO goes, wars are likely to break out. These are not only the subjective impressions left by NATO, but also objective facts to a large extent. This situation is actually more worthy of the high vigilance of those member states within NATO that have no intention of being pa...

NATO is malicious poison former Australian PM "IndyWatch Feed National"

NATO is malicious poison former Australian PM

By News Agencies

July 12, 2023: Information Clearing House -- NATO has no place in Asia and should stick to its original focus, that is the security of the Transatlantic region, former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating has argued. The Labour politician, who served in office from 1991 to 1996, also warned against attempts to circumscribeChina.

In his statement published on Sunday, Keating appeared to refer to a recent report in Politico, which claimed French President Emmanuel Macron had blocked NATOs plans to establish a liaison office in Japan.

The former premier lauded the French head of state for doing the world a service by apparently emphasizing the military blocs focus on Europe and the Atlantic.

According to Keating, the alliances very existence past the end of the Cold War has already denied peaceful unity to the broader Europe.

Exporting such malicious poison to Asia would be akin to Asia welcoming the plague upon itself, he insisted. The former prime minister warned that NATOs presence on the continent would negate most of the regions recent advances.

Keating went on to describe NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg as the supreme fool on the international stage who is conducting himself like an American agent.

Hmmm. Have we seen this before? "IndyWatch Feed National"

In the 1970s, Whitlam set up the Royal Commission into Human Relationships (fascinating stuff).

One of the many topics they considered was comprehensive sex education.

There is a need for early and continuous sex education and for an educational program which will help young people to be responsible to themselves and to each other and to decide and act with knowledge, not in fear or ignorance.

Royal Commission into Human Relationships, Final Report, 1977

Conservatives at the time went into a frenzy of pearl clutching, insisting that priests and parents were the only people who should ever talk to children about sex. They ignored the evidence that many parents didnt have the information their kids needed, or didnt know how to talk to kids about sex, or had deeply disturbing attitudes towards sex that needed disrupting.

Most of all they ignored all the parents who wanted schools and experts to teach their kids about sex because they knew it would make their kids safer and happier.

Almost 50 years later, the only thing thats changed is a different Royal Commission stopped even the LNP demanding that priests should talk to children about sex.

Effective consent education stops the weaponisation of fear and shame. It gives kids and teens the power to make safer, stronger choices about their own lives and bodies.

People who reject consent education and people who think their power base depends on weaponising fear and shame theres a Venn diagram thats pretty much a perfect circle.

If you want to know more about consent education, heres something I prepared earlier

QUESTION: Marty,

Will the Brics launching a gold backed currency be the catalist for bankrupting 3rd world economies? Or is it rising interest rates on their debt?

Tks for all the light u share in a confusing economic landscape.

Cbeers
.baldy

ANSWER: It is unlikely that we are looking at a BRICS single currency like the euro, for that would require a central monetary authority, surrender of sovereignty as in Brussels, end any possibility of QE, etc. We would need to completely collapse the idea of Keynesian Economics insofar as it has evolved, allowing deficit spending.

There is no special magic to gold. It was first restricted to only kings, for it was considered to be the tears from the sun god. As more gold was discovered, it began to be used for the jewelry of wealthy aristocrats. Then it became used as money in its natural form, known as electrum, a natural alloy of gold mixed with silver.

Combining organic and synthetic soundscapes that ebb and flow between distinguishable and distorted, Eora/Sydney-based DIY artist and FBis Independent Artist of the Week Bluetung offers something thats as much a sensation for your mind as it is for your soul.

On Surfacing with Luke M de Zilva, Bluetung described his latest album Eternity by the Stars as his noisiest and glitchiest project to date. The record combines aspects of traditional songwriting with his micro-sound inspired aesthetic, bringing something totally different to this alternative realm of music. Melding layers of dreamy, spacey and glitchy synths atop distorted and filtered guitars, your mind will simultaneously be cast into reminiscing about your past whilst also dreaming about your future.

Backing up his already prolific discography, counting 7 releases since 2018, Eternity by the Stars is Bluetungs expression of what it means to capture a moment in time. But what feels free flowing and expressive actually comes as a result of being a diligent and regimented artist.

Federal Court does not recognise age pension discrimination, despite Australian Government's failure to close life expectancy gap "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

The Federal Court of Australia has dismissed the legal challenge seeking fair and equal access to the age pension for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Proud Wakka Wakka man Uncle Dennis* brought the case in which the Federal Government faced court for the first time in connection with its failure to close the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous people.

Despite recognising the ongoing gap in life expectancy, the Court did not accept that Australia's racial discrimination laws should give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people earlier access to the age pension.

It comes on the same day as The Closing the Gap Annual Data Compilation Report found that Australia is still not on track to meet the target of equal life expectancy by 2031. No progress towards this target was reported since the previous year.

The Albanese government has a responsibility to address age pension inequality out of court, by lowering the pension age for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The current pension age of 67 years does not account for the stark differences in life expectancy and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It means that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people do not have the same opportunity to retire and receive support through the age pension as other Australians. Equal access to the pension would also support several Closing the Gap targets.

Uncle Dennis brought the case with the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and the Human Rights Law Centre, with support from DLA Piper.

Proud Wakka Wakka man Uncle Dennis said:

Im frustrated with this white system, its not a system of the land. It doesnt give us a say. White people are living longer because they havent lost what we have lost. As an Aboriginal man, Ive seen too many of my people dying at a very early age. We are lucky to get to 50 years old. This case was about telling the truth, and asking the Government to work together with us, to give our people the same chance in life as everyone else.

Things will never get better unless the Government closes the gaps it created. We didnt have a problem, a problem came here. Our language, our culture and our identity comes from here, it doesnt come from another country. Truth, justice and accountability are important.

Nerita Waight, CEO at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service said:
Everyone deserves to live a life with dignity but this is not possible for our communities who have been left with no choice but to live shorter lives in poverty because of decades of racist colonial policies and a continued lack of investment and change in the systems, institutions and policies that affect their lives day in day out.

More heart starters in Barwon South West "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The Barwon South West region now benefits from six new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) that could help people with cardiac arrest.

The 24-hour publicly accessible life-saving machines were installed in Anglesea and Aireys Inlet thanks to the Anglesea Lions Club and Anglesea Community Banks fundraising efforts.

Ambulance Victorias Anglesea Branch team manager Matthew Van Der Ploeg said he was grateful for the generous donations of AEDs from the local groups.

Every day, around 20 Victorians suffer a cardiac arrest and only one in 10 survive, he said.

Minutes matter and the sooner a person receives cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation from an AED, the better their chances of survival.

Mr Van Der Ploeg said the device meant the possibility of returning more patients suffering from a medical emergency where a persons heart suddenly stops beating their loved ones.

A defibrillator is a lightweight, battery-operated, portable device used to shock the heart back into rhythm, he said.

Simply open it and follow the instructions. They are safe and easy to use and will not deliver a shock unless necessary.

Not only will it potentially save a life, but if it is used, Ambulance Victoria will replace the pads for free to ensure its ready to go again.

The new AEDs in Anglesea include the Anglesea Community Bank and Anglesea Pizza and Pasta at 63 Great Ocean Road, Go Ride a Wave and Four Kings Coffee and Food at 143B Great Ocean Road, and Anglesea Tennis Club at 19 Cameron Road.

Airey Inlet received AEDs at Strapper Surf on 83 Great Ocean Road, Aireys Inlet Community Garden at 2 Fraser Drive, and Aireys Inlet Community Hall at 6 Great Ocean Road.

Red-capped plovers welcome funding "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The Bellarines Community Red-capped Plover Monitoring and Engagement program is helping further raise sustainable beach behaviour awareness thanks to a state government Coastcare grant.

The program started in 2017 and will share more than $350,000 in funding from the 2022-23 Coastcare Victoria Community Grant to educate people about red-capped plover breeding sites.

Bellarine Bayside coastal projects officer Jane Shearer said she was thrilled that they could continue helping the birds that relied on the beach to incubate their eggs and raise their chicks.

Red-capped plovers spend their entire lives on the beach, and they breed and raise their young during the busy spring and summer period when we humans like to flock to the beaches too, she said.

It can be difficult for them to have success in fledging their chicks. Programs like the Coastcare help us to support these lovely little creatures continue to thrive on our coasts.

Ms Shearer said the grant would help Bellarine Bayside support Birdlife Australia to educate the community on the local beach-nesting birds and red-capped plovers in particular.

The grant will help support the incredible work our passionate and committed community volunteers undertake, she said.

They collect invaluable data on the local colonies that helps Birdlife Australia obtain a clearer picture of the red-capped plover conservation status.

Ms Shearer said people should walk along the waters edge, put their dogs on a lead and move through the area quickly in temporary beach fencing areas to protect the birds while breeding.

The Coastcare Victoria program is in its 29th year of supporting coastal community groups and volunteers, funded by the $16.9-million VicCoasts program.

Bellarine Bayside can be contacted through social media or contactus@bellarinebayside.com.au for more information or to be involved in the red-capped plover protection program.

World Federation of Trade Unions issued statement on the NATO Summit 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

The NATO summit in Vilnius is about to conclude. It faced some serious issues. Notably the situation in Ukraine and the controversy over an intended expansion into Asia. Critics point out that NATO is on a course towards war and that the push for the prevention of war and for a peaceful relationship between nations is critical to our collective future. The World Federation of Unions, representing 105 million workers in 133 countries issued the statement below just prior to the summit.

The World Federation of Trade Unions, on behalf of its 105 million workers who live, work and struggle in 133 countries of the 5 continents strongly condemns the imperialist plans of NATO and considers the 2023 Summit which is going to be held July 11-12 in Vilnius, Lithuania, one more blatant provocation to the whole peaceful humanity.

The peoples all over the globe know we well the bloody mission of this imperialist alliance is to maintain, and expand if possible, the existing favourable correlation of forces for the NATO countries in order to safeguard the profits of their monopolies.  In the imperialist system which is characterized by the fierce competitions of the imperialist forces for geopolitical control and the control of energy resources and their transport routes, both the peoples of the member-states of NATO and the other counties peoples have nothing to expect from the imperialist alliances and wars except death, suffering, poverty, and misery.

The class-oriented world trade union movement, the militant unions, and those who truly want peace consistently and continuously struggle against NATO which constitutes an aggressive war machine in the service of the interests of the imperialist countries of the alliance.   The peoples of the world have a first-hand experience of NATO crimes and they know that NATO means nothing but interventions, wars, juntas, refugees, starvation, destruction, and death.

The WFTU condemns the continuation of military interventions and wars, the accelerated militarization of international relations, and the soaring military expenditures; it demands an immediate end to all imperialist armed conflicts, full respect for the sovereignty, independence, and right of every people to freely choose their present and future.

We denounce the exclusions, discriminations, embargoes, and sanctions imposed by the US, NATO, and the EU against various countries, as they negatively impact the standard of living of low-income families, workers, poor small farmers, and popular strata in general.

Anyone With Drugs, Put Them On The Table: The Redgum Years In The Sunshine State "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

John Schumann (ex-Redgum lead singer/songwriter) and the Vagabond Crew are returning to Brisbane with The Redgum Years in August. Here, Schumann reflects on gigging in the dark days of the Bjelke-Petersen regime, and finds Redgums protest songs from the 70s and 80s still apply today.

It was September 1979. We were staying in some crappy three-star holiday units in Tweed Heads and Tim Woods, our tour manager, assembled us in one of the kitchens after breakfast.

Redgum was very much a part-time band then. Two of us were high-school teachers so touring opportunities were confined to school holidays. Tim, now a successful concert promoter, was the only member of the touring party who had the faintest idea about the music industry and Queensland.

Okay, anyone with any drugs at all I mean at all  put them on the table now.

People shuffled uncomfortably and little by little, small quantities of marijuana in tobacco tins and Gladbags and the odd morsel of crumbly black hash in tinfoil appeared on the Laminex table. It was pretty pathetic, really. These days the combined stash would be considered well within personal use limit for one person.

Iconic Australian band, Redgum.

Right. Were going into Queensland. Were Special Branch targets so we need to be as clean as a bottle of Dettol. Smoke it now, flush it, bury it somewhere I dont care. But its not coming across the border.

Wed released our first album, If You Dont Fight You Lose, barely a year before. One of my contributions was a strident song delivered in my strangulated, nasal tones called Letter to BJ. It was addressed to Queenslands notorious premier and it had garnered a fair bit of attention on both sides of the civil liberties argument. Plenty of Queenslanders were dying to see us play it live. Plenty more would have been just as happy to see our heads on pikes lining the road out of Tweed Heads.

"IndyWatch Feed Northcoast" "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Last night Lismore Council looked at two issues involving the town of Nimbin, with both having speakers during public access. One would have been mistaken for thinking the speakers were in a court of law after the clearly hostile grilling they received from certain councillors in the chamber.

The first to speak was President of the Nimbin Chamber of Commerce, David Hyett, in regards to a Council report that was prepared to determine funding to be paid to the Aquarius Festival.

At the 11 April 2023 Council meeting it was resolved to provide the Aquarius Festival $10,000 funding.

The issue that had arisen was in regards to a traffic guidance scheme (TGS). Some councillors felt that as the festival went ahead without a certified TGS that the funds should be withheld.

The staff recommendation was that that Council resolve to withhold $5,000 of the original $10,000 funding to the Aquarius Festival, as penalty for non-compliance of traffic guidance scheme responsibilities by the Festival organisers, and immediately forward payment of $5,000 to event organisers.

Councillor Big Rob moved a motion that Council resolve to withhold all of the original $10,000 funding for the same reasons.

There was no seconder.

An unexpected change

Mr Hyett said that the proposal to reduce the funding after Council agreed to contribute the $10,000 was completely unexpected. I had attended a previous Traffic Advisory Committee meeting, at which they had asked me for details of the event, not a detailed traffic management plan, that came later, he said.

After the funding was approved, Council asked for a traffic management plan on every single event. At that time, we had 130 plus events in the pipeline. In reality, it was mostly small events over 10 days. There were a few larger events, such as a dinner at the town hall, plus a few events at the Nimbin Theatre. All the events chosen had appropriate approvals. So it was like nothing beyond what we would normally do in the village when we had something going on.

Festival alarm bells

Mr Hyett said that in hindsight, calling the event a festival was a mistake as the word festival set off alarm bells.

Cr Adam Guise said that the recommendation was essentially penalising the Nimbin Chamber $5,000 for not submitting a traffic guidance scheme. He asked Mr Hyett to clarify the agreement. Were you under any impression or communication from Council staff, that when you accepted the money, that you had to provide that [TGS]? Was that a condition to getting the $10,000?

Mr Hyett said that wasnt the case. No. Not at all. And we did actually submit a plan. The plan wasnt suitable and...

The Lies We Were Told "IndyWatch Feed National"

How long does it take to conclude some authority is lying? We dont know this answer yet apparently many years.

BY BILL RICE, JR. | JULY 11, 2023

I recently discovered an excellent Substack Newsletter authored by a registered nurse (Dee Dee) who has treated many (alleged) Covid patients. This nurse finally had enough and decided to share her stories and thoughts via her own Substack, which she started May 25th.

From reading a couple of her pithy posts, my take-away is Nurse Dee must feel like the main character in Joseph Hellers classic novel Catch 22.

In that novel the experiences and observations of a fictional WW II bombardier tell readers the guidance and logic used by his superiors is complete madness.

Dees observations prompted my own question: When do citizens or employees finally realize that every supposedly-true thing theyve been told is, in fact, a brazen lie?

For most people, at least with Covid proclamations, the answer seems to be never.

In other words, for many people, being lied to over and over doesnt matter.

To put it mildly, such a revelation is a tad disconcerting.

One message and it wasnt subtle

Dee Dees observations from a June 2nd dispatch might show readers why I thought of Catch-22, where the message to bomber crews was just do what you are told; dont try to figure out the logic.

With Covid, Nurse Dee identifies the goal of all orders. Instead of just fly the dangerous mission, the key message is: Just take the shot.

The logic surrounding COVID-19 was circular. Every dictated premise, required blind faith and the goal was always the same; to take the shot.

You could not question the narrative and remain a good citizen The mantra erupted, this is a pandemic of the unvaccinated.

No argument could be interjected in the logic. It didnt matter if you had not seen a new illness with unique symptoms It didnt matter if the science didnt make sense. It didnt matter if the measures were opposite to all your previous medical training.

It didnt matter that the vaccine did not stop transmission, and it didnt matter if you had natural immunity.  Essentially, we were told to accept every claim without evidence or reason. The orders had been given, just take the shot.

What one nurse was told

Clive Palmer launches second ISDS case against the Australian government with third case likely "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

12 July, 2023:  The Attorney Generals Department has confirmed that Clive Palmers company, Zeph Investment which is registered in Singapore, has lodged a second Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) claim suing the Australian government for $41.3 billion under the 2012 ASEAN-Australia New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

ISDS is a mechanism within some trade agreements which enables foreign (but not local) investors to sue governments for millions and even billions of dollars of compensation if they can argue, among other reasons, that a change in domestic law or policy has reduced the value of their investment.

Clive Palmer is claiming to be a Singaporean investor, as Zeph Investment is registered in Singapore, to utilise the ISDS mechanism to lodge his claim. He is alleging that the refusal of coal exploration permits in Queensland, which were refused on environmental grounds, entitles him to ISDS compensation.

Clive Palmers most recent ISDS case is just one of the two new prospective ISDS cases revealed in the May budget papers. The Attorney Generals Department has confirmed that Zeph Investment is expected to lodge a third ISDS case.

These cases follow two previous cases that Clive Palmer has taken against the Australian government. In October 2021, Clive Palmer lost his $27.8 billion High Court (non-ISDS) case against the Western Australian government over a disputed mining lease. He moved assets to  Singapore to take this case to an ISDS tribunal and in April 2023 he sued the Australian government for almost $300 billion.

Clive Palmers latest case means he is currently suing the Australian government for $337.3 billion under ISDS, not accounting for a potential third case. Even if Clive Palmer loses these cases, it can be expected to cost the Australian government billions in legal fees. A previous ISDS case between Phillip Morris and the Australian government over plain cigarette packaging cost Australia than $12 billion in legal fees and over 5 years to resolve.

Cottage goes to solar power "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The sun will shine on Queenscliffs Cottage By the Sea following the installation of a solar system and an electric vehicle (EV) charging unit which will together reduce its energy bills by almost a third.

Global low carbon energy and services company, ENGIE commissioned the fitting of the solar system and EV charger to the Queenscliff based charity using its subsidiary, Simply Energy.

The 22.4kW rooftop solar system will generate enough power to meet approximately 30 per cent per cent of Cottage by the Seas annual energy needs. An EV charging unit has also been installed, in anticipation of the organisation switching some of its vehicles to EVs in the near future.

Cottage by the Sea is an Australian childrens charity that aims to give more children more opportunities to have fun, be inspired and broaden their horizons. Founded in 1890 in Queenscliff, it provides tailored programs within a holiday environment.

The responsibility lies with us all as individuals and organisations to do what we can to reduce our impact on our beautiful planet, Cottage by the Sea chief executive Adam Wake said.

This is more than just funding, it has provided the impetus to help Cottage by the Sea move into this space, to use our large roof, and to create a carbon free facility with confidence. This all has a significant educational benefit for the children on our programs.

Simply Energy chief executive Shannon Hyde said while there were significant short-term cost advantages arising from the installation, environmental and educational benefits would also flow in the longer term.

Cottage by the Sea do incredible work with children to keep them engaged in education and community and most importantly have some fun, he said.

Were hoping the solar system and EV charging infrastructure can help to reduce their energy bills and free up some funding for future projects that benefit the families they support.

Barnaby Hunts A Name For New Nationals Think Tank. Hilarity Ensues. "IndyWatch Feed National"

Apparently (and by apparently we mean possibly) the Nationals are contemplating a Think Tank and Political Activist Group to rival GetUp!, Advance Australia and the IPA. Which, for pretty obvious reasons isnt going to be easy. Because, you know, the words Barnaby Joyce and Think Tank appearing in the same sentence is almost certain to evoke fits of laughter in most quarters, and get in the way of the very thing that think tanks are supposed to promote namely, thinking.

Ever ready to assist, the Twitterverse has exploded with suggestions to help the Member for New England find his way through the confusing maze of word thingies (and in the interests of accuracy its also possible that the Twitterverse is equally responsible for creating the whole concept but wheres the fun in fact-checking that). The batting was opened by a Mr. Philip Riley, proud Wiradjuri man and retired schoolteacher, whose suggestions include Intellecta Nullius, All Hat No Cattle, and Happy Hour.

Other suggestions forthcoming include Septic Tank, Lie Down (a play on GetUp!, arf arf), Drink Up!, No Flies On Us, Empty Paddocks, No-one Left, Rorting Rooters, Bourbon Bangers, All Hat No Head, and Cattlemen Up No Trails.

Some of the more classy names included The Bull Dust Institute, The Mudguard Centre (all bright and shiny on top but filthy underneath), the Fertiliser Forum, and the Sir Les Patterson Foundation.

And in a flurry of suggestions, Greg Burch offered: Drink Tank, Gin Up!, Institute of Public Bars, Institute of Elicit Affairs, Institute of the Public Purse, and Integrous Nullius. Its possible Mr Burch is either no fan of the Nationals, or believes them to have a drinking problem.

Judy Lloyd Dalton offered more of an interpretive artwork than a name a photo of Barnaby Joyce sleeping through a session of parliament, prompting Mr Riley to remark, Hes got 2 of the Seven Dwarfs covered Sleepy and Dopey.

Keiran Dwyer also offered up some artwork:

Firefighter makes first blood donation "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Aireys Inlet firefighter Andrew Wilson is doing more than fighting fires to help the community by making his first-ever blood donation.

Mr Wilson took part in the 2023 Red Cross Lifeblood Emergency Services Blood Drive by donating his blood to the program that runs from June 1 to August 31.

He said the process was quicker than he thought it would be and that the donation was another way for him to help others.

I was inspired by my wife, who is a regular blood donor, Mr Wilson said.

Ive wanted to do it for a long time, so I thought it was time to step up and do it myself and take part in the drive.

Aside from the interview beforehand to determine your suitability, the actual blood draw took me less than 15 minutes.

Mr Wilson said giving blood was like volunteering with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) as it allowed him to give back and help people.

Its easy, just do it plus, you get all the treats at the end, he said.

Its an extension of what we do at CFA. While it might not be in our direct community, its still helping others.

Its pretty neat, you get a text message a few days after your donation, and it tells you where your blood has gone, and mine was sent to the Mornington Peninsula.

You get a milkshake at the end, which is something to look forward to, but its super easy and probably sounds a lot scarier than it actually is, so pull together and join in the cause.

More information on the Red Cross Emergency Services Blood Drive and how to donate blood is available at www.lifeblood.com.au.
