Stock for sale falls further "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Dearth of stock continues

Rental vacancies remained generally low in June according to CoreLogic, with several industry participants noting a recent shift back towards the inner cities.

Capital city vacancy rates remained at a record low 1.1 per cent.

The number of properties listed for sale continued to decline across the combined capital cities, now -26.4 per cent below the 5-year average.

Home values increased +1.1 per cent in June and +2.8 per cent for the June quarter.

The quarterly increase was driven by a +4.9 per cent increase in Sydney, and a +3 per cent increase in Brisbane, though recent sentiment suggests something of a cooling in these markets.

Australian Vintage [ASX:AVG] Shares Jump 10% as It Undertakes Strategic Review "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Australian Vintage [ASX:AVG], the company behind popular wine brands Tempus Two, McGuigan, and Nepenthe, has announced the initiation of a strategic review to explore options to unlock shareholder value.

Investors were relieved at the news, with the share price jumping by 10% today, trading at 43 cents per share.

The decision comes in light of the challenging business environment faced by AVG, including inflationary impacts, pressure from consumer trends, and tough market dynamics affecting pricing.

The market has reacted to these challenges, with AVGs shares declining by nearly 40 % over the past year. While the company experienced a surge in demand during the pandemic as consumers shifted to at-home consumption, reaching a 13-year high of 89 cents between March 2020 and June 2021 it remains a far cry from the highs witnessed in the early 2000s.

Australian Vintage explores alternatives

Australian Vintage announced today the beginning of a strategic review by corporate advisory firm E&P to explore options to unlock shareholder value in a challenging environment.

The decision to undertake the review comes in the wake of a challenging mid-June trading update for Australian Vintage, which highlighted the impact of the cost-of-living pinch on demand for affordable wines among Australian consumers.

The company responded by cancelling its final dividend and announcing a $9 million cost-cutting plan to mitigate ongoing inflationary pressures and the negative effects of excess wine capacity on margins.

Despite these challenges, AVG has managed to increase its market share across all key geographies, particularly in the rapidly growing Zero and Low-alcohol wine markets.

Craig Garvin, the former Australian CEO of Parmalat dairy business, leads Australian Vintage as its CEO. In a recent i...

Gladys Berejiklian and Daryl Maguire a latter-day Bonnie and Clyde "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Gladys Berejiklian and Daryl Maguire a latter-day Bonnie and Clyde

The NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption determined that former Premier Gladys Berejiklian had engaged in serious corruption along with her lover, Daryl Maguire. Michael Galvin explores the partnership of NSW's infamous corrupt couple.

THERE SHOULD BE a special place in Australian history for Daryl Maguire, Gladys Berejiklians Hokis. The nation owes a debt of thanks to the NSW ICAC for preserving so many recordings of Dodgy Dazza speaking on the phone to his lover, former Premier Berejiklian.

But first, a couple of thoughts about the disgraced former NSW Premier herself.

Whether or not Berejiklian was as corrupt as Maguire is an open question. But when it comes to his many illegal schemes to make money on the back of his position as a NSW MP, it is the view of this writer that Berejiklian cannot claim total innocence.

Why not? Because she had motive. It was in the former Premier's interests for Maguire to make as much money as he could. It is clear from her own words on the phone to him that she wanted and was looking forward to enjoying overseas holidays and other expensive lifestyle choices with him. Yet Maguire kept telling her how poor he was, how much he was in debt, how much his children were costing him and on and on.

Yes, Berejiklian told Maguire that she was quite capable of covering her own travel and other expenses. From the text messages, it appears Maguires ego was fragile and insecure and, therefore, Gladys knew he had to make money in order to have the life together to which they aspired.

So, Berijiklian had motive and she was not stupid...

Building pipeline continues to decline "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Building pipeline struggles

Building approvals bounced 20.6 per cent in May to 15,032, possibly clearing off an Easter backlog.

House approvals were fairly flat for the month, and -15 per cent lower than a year earlier.

The bounce was overwhelmingly due to an increase in unit approvals in Sydney in this lumpy data series, with most other capital cities still trending lower.

This was a welcome increase, although 15,000 building approvals in a month is still a relatively weak figure overall.

Honduras risks losing $11 billion in ISDS case after repealing laws created by authoritarian government "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

June 30, 2023: US company Prspera has launched a $11 billion dollars Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) claim against Honduras for repealing a controversial law.

ISDS is a mechanism within some trade agreements which enables foreign (but not local) investors to sue governments for millions and even billions of dollars of compensation if they can argue, among other reasons, that a change in domestic law or policy has reduced the value of their investment.

Honduras law, passed by corrupt officials of the post-coup Honduras government, allowed foreign investors to establish Economic Development and Employment Zones (ZEDE). ZEDEs are essentially private cities outside of the jurisdiction of the government which grant investors the power to create their own security forces, governance systems, regulations and separate courts.

The recently elected democratic government has repealed the ZEDE law to ensure that democratic governance applies to these zones. Despite strong public support for the repeal, and the concern over the threat of ZEDEs to democratic protections, Honduras risks losing nearly two-thirds of its national budget if Prsperas case is successful and will have to spend millions defending the case.

You can read more about this case here, or about the dangers of ISDS in AFTINETs updated briefing here.

The obsession with surpluses "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

The Federal Government has posted the first actual surplus for 15 years as distinct from a projected surplus with celebratory coffee mugs just before covid struck.

The essential lesson is not to get stuck on the mantra of surplus good, deficit bad and that that is the be-all and end-all of budgetary (or fiscal) policy. Governments are not like households. They do not have to keep spending within the bounds of income or go bankrupt.

And besides, as every mortgage holder knows, some debt is a good because it generates wealth in the long term.

The Government should not be congratulated on delivering a surplus (of $19 billion). Rather it should be congratulated on doing fairly well the other important elements of budgetary policy: tweaking according to whether the economy is inflationary, on one hand, or sliding into recession on the other; redistributing wealth in measured ways; promoting good economic activity and discouraging bad activity by applying taxes or tax breaks; and delivering services that people might otherwise not be able to afford.

A surplus right now is good, not because surpluses are good per se, but because the economy is in an inflationary mode which needs braking. It is better that the sledge-hammer of high interest rates does not do that alone.

Similarly, when then Treasurer Josh Frydenbergs black surplus coffee mugs turned red with embarrassment after covid struck he should not have been condemned for running a deficit because deficits are bad per se. Rather, he should have been applauded for tipping money into households when it was needed.

If there had been no covid and Frydenbergs surplus had eventuated, there still would have been good grounds for saying his fiscal policy was deeply flawed. Taking the wrecking ball the government service and vast hand-outs to mates and marginal seats for projects of dubious economic merit are no way to run fiscal policy. It was the equivalent of a household borrowing to finance holidays rather than a house.

From the 1990s, the Coalition successfully convinced much of the broader community that its obsession with surpluses was warranted. However, that obsession disguised a more passionate, but flawed, agenda: that of reducing government spending and thereby...

Britain's SAS hosted a serial killer "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

In 2020, the Brereton report found that the Australian SAS had murdered 39 Afghan civilians and committed war crimes. The British government is finally reviewing the actions of its own special forces in Afghanistan, and it looks like the death toll is at least twice as high:

Eighty Afghans may have been victim of summary killings by three separate British SAS units operating in the country between 2010 and 2013, lawyers representing the bereaved families have told a public inquiry.

[...]

Afghans were often killed after allegedly producing weapons when separated from their wider family by SAS soldiers, but there were five incidents where the number shot dead exceeded the number of weapons found.

The fresh claims are cited in a document submitted by the law firm Leigh Day, based on previous Ministry of Defence court disclosures, to a new public inquiry into allegations of war crimes committed by SAS soldiers in Afghanistan.

And these are the murders they have admitted to. There'll be a lot more they've covered up and kept secret.

Appallingly, nearly half the admitted death toll is due to a single soldier, who had a policy of murdering all "fighting-age males", regardless of whether they posed any threat. Which seems both genocidal, and the actions of a straight-up serial killer.

In Australia, the Brereton report got to the truth, and led to consequences. An entire SAS unit was disbanded for its crimes, and criminal trials are imminent. In the UK, with its long history of official coverups, and with politicians trying to "draw a line" under historic crimes to prevent embarrassment to the power structure, I don't think we can have any confidence that anything will be done. Britain will not provide justice for its crimes. Instead, these war criminals and their political accessories and co-conspirators will have to be sent to The Hague.

"Lets lynch the landlord" as policy "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Last month the Greens released their tax policy, was was basicly eat the rich. Over the weekend they followed it up with their rental policy. The short version? lets lynch the landlord:

Rents controls would limit how much landlords could increase the rent by each year. The cap would never be higher than 3 percent, which is the upper limit of the Reserve Bank's inflation target.

Landlords would not be allowed to raise rents beyond this limit unless they have made substantial improvements to the property.

The controls would also be property based rather than tenancy to prevent landlords putting up the rent between tenants.

A Rental Warrant of Fitness would guarantee all rental homes were safe, warm and healthy to live in.

A national register of all landlords and property managers would keep track of how many properties were rented, ownership, how much rent was charged over time, and compliance with the Rental Warrant of Fitness.

Less headliney, but also important: relaxing Labour's austerity limits on Kainga Ora, allowing them to build even more state houses. Which would restore some balance to the rental sector.

Naturally, landlords hate it, making their usual threat to sell up. Which is a feature, not a bug, because unless they turn arsonist, the houses will still be there. They'll just be parasite free. Economists also hate it, but given that their "discipline" is basicly making excuses for the rich, they would. And as with MMP, the Wal Footrot principle applies: want a reason to vote for it? Just look at the people telling you not to.

The Eastern Star. "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

The Eastern Star.

I call that star in the early morning sky,

The Eastern Star..for know not I,

The names given to stars of the night,

Save those sung in songs of delight.

I confess I know not, so many things,

Like the names of public holidays,

Peoples names, and sundry things,

Of deep regret I have to sling..

But I do know the difference,

Between what is intoned,

As a lonely life against a life alone.

Myself, if I can but quote;

Married with children, not to gloat,

But to example a situation done,

Yet to me, I live in this life alone.

For there is one part of my soul,

I would not like to have others know,

Of thoughts I think nor ideas I sow,

Not for want of any scant disgust,

But rather because I have so little trust,

Or faith that the public mob (scuse my scorn),

Would not banter and laugh to so forlorn,

At my silly dreams and colourful plans I lay,

Should ever such come to the light of day..

So best I live in this life alone,

With all my angels, demons and dreams convolved,

Rather than see myself be publicly scold,

And let what is personal, not obscure personality,

Be the measure of my worth in social equity,

And so leave The Eastern Star shine down on me.

In which the pond continues the Monday tradition of Caterist blather and the Major out for his usual march ... "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

In these troubled times, the pond often finds itself in the company of apostates, dissenters, heretics, deserters, traitors and nonconformists who've abandoned their old ways ...

So the pond was reading a rant by former Republican Mike Lofgren, There's no such thing as a conservative intellectual only apologists for right-wing power.

It's a long rant, but the thesis was simple enough, and summarised what the pond had learned over the years is what the reptiles at the lizard Oz yearn for day after day, month after month, year after year ...

1. A desire for hierarchy and human inequality.
2. The only acceptable society is based on Christianity.
3. We must obey tradition.
Along the way there were some bon mots ...

Modern conservatives are hag-ridden by demons the fallen state of man, the hopeless decadence of secular humanism, the imminent collapse of Western Civilization (a term always capitalized).

And - spoiler alert - if the pond might cut to the chase and the conclusion ...

...It is not too much to say that conservative apologetics is a vast rhetorical structure that purports to say one thing when it means another. Economic freedom means the right to exploit one's natural inferiors; religious freedom equates to imposing religion on sinful unbelievers; defense of tradition means censoring and rewriting history, the better to make the present seem like the culmination of conservative ideas.
Ideas those may be, but the product of genuine intellectuals those who employ critical reasoning and approach facts honestly they are not. Ever since the Enlightenment, there has been a perpetual battle, a war of words, between those who would make the world a little freer, a little healthier, a little fairer and a little saner, and those who are viscerally repelled by such markers of secular progress. We see the practical consequences of this conflict everywhere, from the ruined cities of Ukraine to our own barbarously retrograde state legislatures. It is necessary for each of us to know which side we are on in the intellectual struggle of this chaotic century.

In much the same way as a Catholic turned atheist, or vice versa, there's nothing like an apostate, and of course the whole of The Bulwark is full of reformed apostates of the Tim Miller kind, busy offering up tracts such as DeSantis Video Brags That His Policies Literally Threaten Trans Existence.

Media Watch faces backlash for supporting transphobia "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Media Watch faces backlash for supporting transphobia

ABC's Media Watch has stirred controversy by bothsiding the fight for trans rights, claiming the importance of reporting differing points of view. Dr Victoria Fielding reports.

IN 2017, during a White supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, a young woman was murdered when a White supremacist purposely drove his car into a crowd of people peacefully protesting White supremacy.

In response to this incident, then-President Donald Trump famously said:

You had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.

And:

I think there is blame on both sides.

Joe Biden responded to this statement in his video launching his bid for president in 2019, saying:

With those words, the President of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it.

This same false moral equivalence, also referred to as bothsidesism, was on display in ABCs Media Watch story, Transgender TERF war, about anti-trans columnist and journalist, Julie Szego, losing her job at The Age.

Bothsidesism refers to presenting different perspectives in a notional debate as if they are equally valid, have the same moral basis, have equally strong arguments, or are equally problematic.

There are two major problems with bothsiding of anti-trans people with trans people. It suggests trans people who are victims of hate are no different than those who hate and discrimi...

As a magnet; proven a number of times over the past fifteen months, and the specific deployment of dispensables: as Russia withdrew, the required were bound to follow. As there were no Russian regular ground forces in Ukraine the magnet was by abandonment of the disposables believing they were fighting to defend mother Russia.

The delusion would naturally extend to the belief of popular support. Their abandonment being explained by a lack due to bureaucratic corruption.

Russia controls The Persian Gulf, The Suez Canal, and the territory east of Poland. It uses Iran and North Korea to toy with America. Together with China: it controls the worlds major sea lanes. Together with Saudi Arabia, it controls the worlds energy supplies.

Morning Star assesses The Palestine Laboratory "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

The British newspaper Morning Star positively reviews my new book, The Palestine Laboratory, in an article written by Bob Newland:

This book, dedicated in solidarity with the Palestinians and Israelis fighting for a just future is a very effective contribution to that cause.

An outstanding work of investigative journalism, it exposes the close links between Israel, the US and repressive regimes throughout the world.

It catalogues extensively how Israel has developed its arms industry through the occupation of Palestinian lands and promoted it through decades of suppression of Palestinian rights.

Loewenstein grew up in Australia, the child of refugees from Nazi Germany. As he studied Israel he came to believe that the policies of the state of Israel represent a threat to its Jewish population rather than offering a safe haven.

He became an avid supporter of Palestinian rights and an opponent of apartheid Israel.

After four years (2016-20) living in East Jerusalem, he is convinced that a two-state solution is no longer viable that the security of the Jewish people in Israel can only be served by a one-state solution where all its citizens can live equally.

Loewenstein focuses on the commercialisation of an extreme form of nationalism. This is powerfully represented by Benjamin Netanyahus right-wing zionist coalition which protects corruption, exports repression and seeks to establish Israel as an exclusively Jewish state by expelling the remaining Palestinians and colonising their lands.

Word-Salads, their use and Coercive Control "IndyWatch Feed National"

The spotlight that is now shining on the Pentecostal Church alongside of a growing understanding about religious coercive control, and the psychological and emotional manipulation in high demand religious groups, cults and personal development groups is very timely. The term word salad is often used by researchers and educators to describe one of the psychological tactics that charismatic leaders used to draw people in, and then to keep them engaged and mesmerised.

Addressing Australia's recycling crisis "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

Addressing Australia's recycling crisis

Recycling and rethinking our approach to sustainability is essential for a healthy planet, writes Dermot Daley.

IT IS NICE to think that the majority of people care about the land on which we dwell; about the physical beauty of the landscapes, about the unique flora and fauna around us, and critically, about the quality of the water and the air that we need to sustain us.

I live near the coast and love walking along the beach, especially in winter. I despair at the amount of man-made debris that washes onto the shore, so I collect as much plastic as I can carry. It seems such a small gesture as I visit this tiny stretch of our coastline and I am only able to gather material that I can pick up. The micro and nanoparticles elude me.

Most people would not deliberately rubbish their living room. Part of our litter problem is that paper and plastics get blown by the wind, sometimes things get dropped unnoticed and some people blithely discard what they no longer want. We have a serious problem with packaging, although some progress is now being made with biodegradable.

"Mindset", "materials" and "money" may be the three keys to managing "the great waste".

Mindset, the care factor, has crept backwards since the clever "Keep Australia Beautiful" campaign of a few decades ago. Having had some involvement in caretaker work in apartment buildings I frequently observed a lack of understanding in the separation of waste and recyclables. Local government authorities need to do much more to inform people about recycling, and to have clear policies and practices in place. Education and example are essential in developing a mindset of meaningful waste disposal.

It is important to get em young.

Materials used in contemporary manufacturing offer a lot of scope for imagination and recycling. Most plastics in the system are derived from fossil fuels, essentially compounds of hydrogen and carbon, which can theoretically be reconstituted in different forms. Assuming that mineral oil is a finite resource, it is plausible that the heaps of discarded hydrocarbon plastics littering the oceans and coastlines and rivers of the world still have a material value and so at some point, it may be profitable to...

Truth about COVID origins remains unknown over three years on

Conflicting narratives around the origins of COVID continue to abound while we wait for more conclusive evidence to emerge, reports Brendan Irwin.

A BOMBSHELL was dropped on 14 June as the investigative journalists released new information on Substack, citing a source within the U.S. Government who claims that among the first patients to be infected with COVID include Ben Hu, a gain-of-function researcher at the Wuhan lab.

The bombshell report appears substantive as it was written by the same investigative journalists who uncovered The Twitter FilesMichael Shellenberger and Matt Taibbi (along with reporter Alex Gutentag).

On 20 June, a journalist at The Wall Street Journal independently confirmed these claims that three employees from the Wuhan lab were among the first patients to be infected with COVID.

Whilst these claims are of significant interest to those who favour the lab leak hypothesis, we still have no definitive proof of a lab leak, nor definitive proof to confirm the natural origin hypothesis.

The U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a report on 23 June identifying that "most" in the U.S. intelligence community assess that the initial human infection with SARS-CoV-2 most likely was caused by natural exposure to an infected animal that carried SARS-CoV-2&r...

The pond couldn't think of an immediate use for 'twatitude', or perhaps there were so many uses that thoughts of use bogged down under the weight of choice, and sadly "ciuntry" strayed dangerously close to Hamlet talking of country matters ...

2-Sense: House prices forecasts; record mortgage repayments in the post "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

2-Sense podcast

This week on the Australian Property Podcast I was joined by Chris Bates to discuss the big three property news stories of the week.

We discuss Domain's house price forecasts, which anticipate new highs, and also record mortgage repayments expected next year.

Tune in here (or click on the image below):

The YouTube version will go live at some point as well.

Chris notes have incredibly tight lending policy settings are at the moment, and it's obliterating the housing supply, and particularly of rentals.

Today News reported how Brisbane has become the latest city to turn into a "Hunger Games" style rental market, with one mother reporting being rejected from over 800 applications.

There don't appear to be any workable plans to tackle this, with Victoria's state government now reducing incentives for off-the-plan purchases and increasing land taxes for landlords in the face of record population growth.

Re-painted Australian Army Marked Leonardo S.P.A. Helicopters (Agusta) AW139 Helicopter VH-YBF "Warhorse 207" Returns to Townsville via Rockhampton Airport - Plus More! "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

On Monday 22 May, a surprise visitor made a return to Central Queensland in the form of Australian Army marked Leonardo S.P.A. Helicopters (Agusta) AW139 Helicopter VH-YBF.

The chopper called into Rockhampton Airport from the Gold Coast and then departed to Townsville and was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Warhorse 207".

VH-YBF flew up from Bankstown to the Gold Coast the previous day and was photographed above resting at the Goldie.

VH-YBF had flown South to Bankstown in early April for what we thought was and end-of-lease maintenance lay-up - clearly not though - and the chopper looks great in a revised livery.

As previously mentioned, VH-YBF and fellow AW139 VH-YBG are registered to Helicorp (Toll Group) and are two of three(?) AW139 helicopters that have been leased to the Australian Army's 5th Aviation Regiment based at Townsville. They have been provided to the Army to provide a similar capability to the NH Industries MRH-90 so pilots can keep up their hours.

Meanwhile, also on Monday 22 May, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Exercise Black Dagger 23-1 which is currently underway out of Townsville, saw the RAAF Pilatus PC-21 Forward Air Control Aircraft A54-048 as "Raven 16" fly down to the Shoalwater Bay Training Area to complete a sortie from and back to Townsville Airport.

Finally, also on Monday 22 May, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Alenia C-27J Spartan transport aircraft A34-010 looked to visit the Samuel Hill Aerodrome within Shoalwater Bay three separate times on flights from and back to RAAF Base Amberley.  For each flight, it was heard to use the radio callsign of "Wallaby 61".

On Friday 30 June, Cirrus Design Corp. SF50 Vision Jet wearing the American registration marking of N616TS looked to fly into Hervey Bay (Fraser Coast) Airport from Nambucca Heads (New South Wales) before it then departed to Cairns.

N616TS seems to be another new little bizjet on the Australian scene with it looked to arrive in the country in only the last couple of weeks.

While Cessna 510 Citation Mustang bizjet VH-PAC looked to complete airwork at Hervey Bay (Fraser Coast) Airport while on a flight out of and back to its Sunshine Coast base.

Meanwhile, also on Friday 30 June, Navair Flight Operations Embraer EMB-500 Phenom 100 bizjet VH-LXZ as "Navair 131" was noted departing Mackay Airport for the Gold Coast.  It seems that VH-LXZ "Navair 131" arrived into Mackay Airport yesterday from Bankstown, Cessnock and the Goldie.

Finally, also on Friday 30 June, the Queensland Government Airwing (State of Queensland) Raytheon B300 Super King Air VH-SGQ flew up from Brisbane to Rockhampton Airport and then down to Maryborough Airport and then back to Brisbane.

The Queensland Police Service (Airwing) (State of Queensland) Raytheon B1900D VH-PSK flew down from Cairns and Townsville to Rockhampton Airport.  It then continued to Brisbane before later returning to Townsville and then back to Cairns.

And Bayswater Road / Australian Aerial Mapping (AAM) survey aircraft - Reims Aviation F406 VH-LAA looked to complete some aerial surveying out of Mackay Airport.  It has also been noted operating out of Emerald Airport this week after earlier flying up from Archerfield.

Australia is first nation to allow doctors to prescribe MDMA, psychedelics for PTSD, depression "IndyWatch Feed National"

Starting July 1, Australia will allow doctors to prescribe MDMA and magic mushrooms to treat PTSD and depression. It's a worldwide first that comes as research uncovers how psychedelic drugs have real potential for treating mental health conditions. "Australia is creating an interesting model that could pave the way forward for the rest of the world," Dr. Michael Alpert, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School, told ABC News. Comment: The West, perhaps, but it seems the multipolar world is at least, first, attempting to improve the lives of its citizenry. MDMA is a synthetic hallucinogen, often linked to rave parties, that's also known as "molly" or "ecstasy." According to the new rules established by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration, MDMA can be prescribed only to treat post-traumatic stress disorder by authorized psychiatrists. Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, will only be prescribed to treat depression that hasn't responded to other therapies.

#Gaslighting is a manipulative tactic used by individuals, including some religious and. cult leaders, to undermine the beliefs and perceptions of others.

In the context of religious coercive control, here are ten examples of gaslighting phrases that may be used to dominate the belief system, thoughts, and actions of targeted individuals:

  1. Youre just not spiritual enough to understand. This phrase dismisses any doubts or questions an individual may have by implying that their lack of understanding is due to a personal failing rather than valid concerns.
  2. God revealed to me that youre under the influence of evil. By claiming divine insight, the cult leader suggests that any disagreement or resistance against their teachings is a result of external evil forces acting upon the targeted individual.
  3. Your doubts are a sign of weak faith. This phrase aims to discourage critical thinking and self-reflection, dismissing any legitimate concerns or challenges to the cult leaders /pastors teachings as a lack of faith.
  4. If you leave, youll lose your salvation. Cult leaders may use fear-based tactics to prevent individuals from leaving, suggesting that leaving the group or questioning their authority will lead to eternal damnation or separation from God.( The all powerful Father figure).
  5. Only I can interpret the true meaning of the scriptures, you need to trust me. By asserting exclusive interpretive authority, the cult leader discourages independent study or alternative perspectives, maintaining control over the followers understanding of religious texts.
  6. Your family and friends are trying to lead you astray they dont understand /they are not saved like you are. Cult leaders may isolate individuals by discrediting their relationships outside the group, creating an us versus them mentality that further entrenches loyalty to the leader.
  7. Your negative experiences are a test from God. This phrase minimises any negative experiences or abuses suffered within the group, suggesting that they are part of a divine plan or a test of faith that must be endured.
  8. Youre sinful, if you leave, youll never find salvation elsewhere. Cult leaders may instil a sense of guilt or shame in individuals, making them believe that they are unworthy of seeking freedom or finding spir...

The rise of sourdough: a return to nourishing traditions "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Amidst the chaos of recent years, a remarkable phenomenon emerged a surge of passionate sourdough bread-baking enthusiasts.

As our lives simplified and confined us to our homes, curiosity sparked playful experimentation with sourdough culture.

The allure of sourdough is simply irresistible; its fermentation and biochemistry offer a captivating glimpse into the realm of science.

At Ket Baker, its foundation lies in its unabashed adoration for the wonders of breadmaking. Cultivated bread becomes an integral part of a nourishing and healing diet, intricately woven into the fabric of our overall well being.

It is widely acknowledged that our gut, often referred to as the second brain, greatly benefits from the inclusion of fermented foods a crucial aspect of holistic wellness.

Unfortunately, the dark underbelly of industrialised bread production has transformed this essential sustenance into a profit-driven commodity, devoid of any true nutritional value. The demonisation of bread has been further exacerbated by a coordinated campaign against gluten.

While coeliac disease is undeniably real, the market has been flooded with questionable substitutes that come with a host of unsavoury additives.

Ket Bakers concern lies not only with the final product, but also with the conscientious cultivation and expression of the grain itself.

Creating fermented foods successfully requires an understanding of the intricate biochemical dance within a living culture. As bakers, we resist the allure of shortcuts and commercial success; which risk diluting the authenticity of sourdough. Authentic sourdough demands time, attention, and, above all, a generous infusion of love. Skilled bakers can eschew extraneous elements, allowing bread to reclaim its rightful place as a nutrient-dense staple an ambassador of gut health, rich in vital vitamins and minerals readily absorbed and utilised by our bodies.

At Ket Baker, they proudly embrace their old-school roots, transmitting cherished family traditions to nourish yours. The products are a testament to the harmonious collaboration between local, small-scale producers, thereby fostering a thriving community economy.

The unwavering commitment to prioritising people and quality over profits shines through every loaf. Ket Baker actively trains and mentors enthusiasts, safeguarding the ancient art of sourdough baking and ensuring its perpetuation, as the knowledge base and culture of this culture continue to evolve and expand.

As the age-old adage goes you are what you eat, so its imperative to choose nourishing sustenance that fuels our bodies. Lets embrace the sourdough renaissance, rediscovering time-honoured traditions and reclaiming our connection to wholesome food.

The Pentecostal Church and Religious Trauma "IndyWatch Feed National"

Understanding Religious Vicarious Trauma and Identifying Religious Coercive Control: A Closer Look at the Pentecostal Church

In recent times, the mainstream media has brought attention to the Pentecostal church, shedding light on certain aspects that warrant further discussion and how to spot the warning signs.

I was working in the area of domestic violence and coercive control when a young family member was targeted for indoctrination on a youth camp, which is one of the most common practices in the recruitment process. Over the many years that she remained under the Pentecostal spell, I spoke out about what was clearly psychological and religious coercive processes. This created a great deal of conflict in relationships in my family and if this has happened to you it is important to know that feeling powerless, and unable to intervene, is very common vicarious trauma symptom in response to how high demand religions organise themselves.

I have written about how to recognise Spiritual Gaslighting here: https://carolom.wordpress.com/2023/07/01/spiritual-gaslighting-by-religious-cult-leaders/

Indoctrination-It begins with connecting with the kids in their high school settings so it is important to have a clear understanding with the school about their high school chaplaincy program to see if Pentecostal recruiters are able to have access to children without accountability structures in place.

It is common practice for the youth pastors to #lovebomb the kids in isolated camps settings where they skilfully apply Pentecostal practices of conducting rapidly changing psychological and emotional states in group settings, putting the teenagers (minors) through emotionally vigorous, mind altering worship, prayer, tears, arms raised leading to commanding them to give their life to Jesus, which usually includes the pastor who has indoctrinated them.

I have provided insights into how young people can be targeted for indoctrination on youth camps and potential tools for the recovery process for families when a member escapes a high-demand religion like the Pentecostal church or a cult.

Religious Vicarious Trauma: Religious vicarious trauma refers to the psychological and emotional distress experienced by individuals who are indirectly exposed to traumatic events through their association with a religious group or community.

It occurs when individuals witness or hear about traumatic experiences that others within their religious c...

Seminar for Peace in Asia Stocked With Card-Carrying Globalist Operatives "IndyWatch Feed Politics.au"

I received invitation today from Joseph Gerson, president of NGO Campaign for Peace Disarmament and Common Security, inviting me to attend this online seminar concerning the risks of an Asia-Pacific NATO that is being held on July 4.

I have spoken with Mr. Gerson on the phone and corresponded with him on several occasions and he made it clear that his organization did not want to meet with me or have any interaction with me. I was grateful, however, that he returned my emails and also was willing to talk to me on the phone. Our relationship was not bad, just distant.

But when I saw the bankrupt lineup for this seminar I must say that my little jaw dropped.

I do not know the Australian diplomat Alison Broinowski, but the others I know well.

Victor Gao of the Center for China and Globalization has consistently advocated that the solution for conflicts between the United States and China should take the form of economic interactions between multinational corporations and he has completely written over the need for discussions between citizens, or even intellectuals, about the horrific concentration of wealth and power in both nations that is the cause of current conflicts. Presenting him as a representative of China is ludicrous in the extreme.

I have had frequent interactions with Chung-In Moon of Yonsei University who was a central figure for US-Korea relations in the Moon Jae-in Presidency (unrelated). Professor Moon is a genius for raising funds from corporations to support his toothless peace proposals and most skillful at promoting himself all over the world as an international Korean who speaks fluent English. Like Gao, Moon represents powerful financial interests in Korea and he has essentially no interest or concern for the actual lives of ordinary people.

But Jeffery Sachs is the undisputed master of the game. An overpaid professor and narcissistic public intellectual who soaks up money from corporations to push a soft and fuzzy kinder and gentler globalization run efficiently by big business, papering over social contradictions like a pro,  Sachs has become the dominant figure in the Chinese corporate media pushing a vision of peace between the US and China that completely ignores economic contradictions, class conflicts, overproduction, the militarization of the US (and Chinese) economies, and a host of other indicators of how the global elite are setting us up for war in order to line their nests.

Sachs cannot describe the manner in which billionaires in the US and China are playing footsie in an effort to destroy the lives of working people in both countries because those billionaires and their henchmen are what guarantee him media exposure and a beautiful office at Columbia University.

Over the last twenty years numerous well-meaning friends have suggested that I reach out to Jeffery Sachs as he is so concerned about conflicts with China. I discovered, however, when I wrote....

Homeless horror

I was deeply disturbed to read about Geelongs growing homelessness rates and the fact that 8500 people are currently on the priority waitlist for social housing in our region (Homeless numbers soar higher, Voice, 16/06/2023).

To make matters worse, many of those waiting for housing are dealing with top priority issues such as family violence, over-crowding, rough sleeping, and threats of danger. They desperately need a safe home.

Geelong, like many parts of Australia, has a serious shortage of public housing resulting from years of neglect by all levels of government.

Everyone needs a safe place to live. Our local, state and federal governments must work together to provide immediate housing relief for those currently without affordable accommodation in Geelong.

To market, to market

For those looking for something different to do on a Sunday, I strongly recommend a visit to the Belmont Sunday Market.

There are so many bargains to be had including clothing and footwear, for both adults and children,

Often at prices which are well below those which apply in op shops.

Over the years, I have regularly bought pre-loved quality clothing for $2 or less.

Pick your day, as poor weather usually means fewer vendors on site.

New Beatles music on track using AI: 'Imagine' that

An AI experiment promises the release of new Beatles music later this year. Meanwhile, David Kowalski unearths some 7" vinyls, including an earlier attempt to 'bring back' John Lennon using technology.

MOVING HOUSE for a music fan is a nightmare, especially when it comes to shifting a physical media collection. But on the other side, when unpacking a decades-old-and-still-growing vinyl collection, you find things you havent heard in ages. Here are some of the 7 singles I unearthed this week.

BEATLES 'BACK' ON TRACK

The big news this week is that Paul McCartney has used artificial intelligence (AI) to create a new (as yet unnamed) Beatles track to be released sometime before the end of the year. Fans on social media have gone berserk.

Kangaroos: a need for clarity, monitoring, and considered views "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The state government is running a consultation on its Review of the kangaroo harvesting plan. You can participate by going here.

The plan, and the program it describes, is justified by the following:

Areas with large kangaroo populations can experience issues such as:

  • traffic accidents
  • damage to pasture, crops, gardens and fences caused by kangaroos
  • negative impact on vulnerable native vegetation or areas undergoing revegetation due to kangaroo grazing
  • competition for grazing with livestock on farming properties
  • kangaroos becoming aggressive towards people, usually when individual animals have regular contact with humans (e.g. become used to being fed by humans).

According to the consultation documents, aerial surveys show between 2 million and three million kangaroos in the state.

These aerial surveys dont include numbers for heavily forested areas, for obvious reasons. The numbers, density and abundance [of Eastern Greys] are significantly higher in the Central Region [of which were a part] than in other regions.

As witness recent correspondence in our local press, kangaroo shooting is controversial. A very quick look at the dot points above will reveal that a large part of the kangaroo problem relates to human behaviour: traffic accidents could be reduced if people drove more slowly; the practice of feeding kangaroos in the wild is silly, and should be massively discouraged; competition with livestock could be reduced if water points were less available to kangaroos; and better planning of urban expansion would reduce the impact on kangaroo habitat.

In the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens reserve: a clear appreciation of the facts about kangaroo populations...

But if you happen to be in that area, pause and take a look: youll see a row of possibly the biggest Silver Banksias in the district.

Main Road/Midland Highway, Campbells Creek: that row of trees you may not have noticed is a sign of something pretty significant

Planted by Friends of Campbells Creek over 20 years ago, some of them have reached an impressive sizeand theyve been flowering for weeks now. You cant appreciate that part unless you actually stop and have a good look.

especially if you get up close and have a good look.

Its worth it: and its a small sign of a process of healing the damage done to the region when this species was practically eradicated here over a century ago. Banksias used to be widesprea...

Work trip yields results "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

I spent a few days in Melbourne over the past fortnight, attending a work conference.

I had a few walks along the Yarra between Kew and Alphington and was surprised to see a small flock of king parrots as well as a pair of kookaburras.

The most common bird seen in Melbourne was the omnipresent rainbow lorikeet. These birds are certainly thriving in many areas of Australia.

On the way home from Melbourne I took a detour to Western Treatment Plant, as I hadnt been there for months. I was pleased to see good numbers of brown falcons, nankeen kestrels, pied stilts and white-faced herons.

I saw a small flock of curlew sandpipers, that are migratory shorebirds that have obviously chosen to over winter in southern Australia rather than flying to the Northern Hemisphere to breed.

I was pleased to spot a peregrine falcon roosting high in a tree canopy in Point Wilson Road. I think this bird was a female as it was a large bird and female peregrines are noticeably bigger than males.

I also saw four magnificent brolgas. I was looking along the Spit for blue-winged parrots or maybe even an orange-bellied parrot, but didnt spot either of these beautiful birds.

On the subject of the critically endangered orange-bellied parrots, 36 of these birds were released from captive breeding programs in late April to the Spit Nature Conservation Reserve in Northern Western Port Bay and Lake Connewarre on the Bellarine Peninsula.

This project aims to establish flocks of released birds in suitable habitats in Victoria with the aim of attracting naturally migrating orange-bellied parrots to those sites to improve the over-winter survival of these birds. These birds are being electronically monitored to track their movements and survival.

The Bellarine Peninsula was also in the news over the past fortnight after a tree was cut down and three barn owl hatchlings were found in a hollow of the tree. These birds were taken to the Werribee Zoo where they were looked after in a tree-like hollow.

The parent birds were assumed to have left the area after their hollow was destroyed. The three owls fledged and were released back into the wild this week. Wildlife carers asked residents to check hollows in trees before cutting the trees down. Hollows are crucial for many species of animals and birds for shelter and nesting.

I received a lovely email from Fiona and Phill, who are periodic visitors to Ocean Grove as they have family in the area. They love birds and are long term nature observers, as Phil worked as a park ranger for 40 years.

Phil was outside at night in the Woodlands area, using a thermal monocular to observe possums, when he saw a large bird flying in the scope and in the torchlight saw a very large wingspan of some sort of owl.

They were wondering if powerful owls have been seen around the Bellarine, to which I replied that the bird was most likely a male tawny frogmo...

Net Zero is the greatest folly since the Childrens Crusade "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Ive just finished editing seven hours of interviews with net zero experts, including James Cooper of Diggers and Drillers. So, youll have to forgive me for being a bit myopic about my topic.

The good news is that I learned quite a lot about net zeros impact on us, even after writing a book about the topic in the six months before the interviews.

More on the book and the interviews in the coming weeks. Today, lets focus on what I learned from my guests.

The first lesson is that the inherent complexity of the topic makes it easy to reach any conclusion youd like. For example, when comparing the cost of energy from a variety of sources, the conclusion is entirely determined by what is included in the calculation. There is simply no fair way to compare the various energy sources if you ask me.

This is partly because of the second thing I learned. While we currently use fuel to feed our energy demand, the transition to renewables is a transition to solids, for want of a better term. Instead of using up fuels like coal, gas and oil, renewable energy uses up commodities like steel, copper, cobalt, lithium and many more.

This completely mucks up the comparison between fossil fuel energy and renewables. This is because the key cost of running a coal or gas power plant is the fuel input, which is a recurring variable cost. The key cost of renewables is the initial construction and sourcing of materials needed, after which the power is theoretically free.

But how do you compare the cost of building something to the ongoing cost of fuelling something? By having to make so many assumptions that your assumptions end up defining the analysis.

Each different type of energy also has its contingent costs. Renewable energy needs power storage because of intermittency. There simply isnt any form of storage thats viable, scalable and cost-effective for an economy, even if we could find enough resources to build it. So how do you compare a renewables system to a fossil fuel system?

Ironically, countries with high renewables levels currently use a fossil fuel grid as renewable energys backup. Which adds vast costs of having to keep it ready. Thats why places with high levels of renewables have high power costs. They need two grids, one of which is only called on sometimes.

We source a lot of fossil fuels from places with a lot of geopolitical risks. An interruption of supply completely shuts down energy markets, which wouldnt be true of renewables because windmills would keep on turning and solar panels keep on burnin.

There are many other reasons why, but the point is that its nigh impossible to compare the various systems fairly. Their features are just so different. Nuclear really throws a wrench into this because its fuel, uranium, and is a very small part of the cost of a nuclear plant. Meanwhile, ridiculous overregulation and unnecessarily tight safety standards are th...

Welcome to the Global Financial Crisis of 2023 (Part Five) "IndyWatch Feed Economics.au"

Frank claimed that the New York bank was hit with a run generated by the nervousness and beyond nervousness from SVB and crypto. The banks digital assets business made it the unfortunate victim of the panic that really goes back to FTX.

With reference to the Sunday night closure, Barney Frank went on to say, We were fine until the last couple of hours on Friday. Sorry, Barney. If you were only fine until late Friday, that means you were never fine to begin with. Thats risk management 101.

Other corrupt facets of the SVB collapse are breaking daily. Its reported that top insiders of SVB sold millions of dollars of SVB stock over the course of January and February ahead of the recent disclosures. Did they see this meltdown coming?

Insider sellouts

One of those insiders was the CEO of SVB, Gregory Becker. As noted above, Becker sold US$3.5 million of SVB stock on 27 February 2023, just two weeks ahead of the collapse.

Becker was on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, which was the primary supervisor of SVB. In effect, Becker was regulating his own bank.

His name abruptly disappeared from the Fed website on 10 March, the same day SVB was taken over by the FDIC.

The Fed had just weathered an insider trading scandal in 2022 when it was revealed that several Fed Governors and Presidents of regional Federal Reserve Banks had engaged in insider trading using information gained about the extent of the pandemic in 2020.

Beckers sales of SVB stock ahead of the meltdown look like more of the same insider trading by Fed officials.

It gets worse.

The Most Compelling Cases Against The Death Penalty Are Often The Condemned Inmates Themselves "IndyWatch Feed National"

Obviously, one of the biggest problems with the death penalty is that if you get it wrong and they do occasionally get it wrong you cant take it back. Just ask the family of Cameron Willingham.

But another far less acknowledged problem is that on countless occasions, US states have ended up executing people who, by all any fair measure, are rehabilitated.

In 2001, in the course of a robbery, 25-year-old Jedediah Murphy kidnapped a 79-year-old woman, Bertie Lee Cunningham, before executing her in the trunk of her car. Murphy a product of Texas foster care system was caught and confessed to his crime.

The video below is part of an ongoing project from Houston MediaSource, which gives voice to prisoners awaiting execution on Texas infamous Death Row, a state where they take pride in killing prisoners regardless of their rehabilitation status, and sometimes even their guilt or innocence.

Murphy is scheduled for execution in October 2023. His insights in this interview are profound and moving, and should be required viewing for anyone who supports the death penalty.

As Murphy himself says: Be part of someone elses redemption, dont be part of their destruction.

You can read a petition for a writ of certiorari (a request for the US Supreme Copurt to review Murphys case) here.

Pope Francis Meets With Family Of Julian Assange "IndyWatch Feed National"

Pope Francis has met with the family of imprisoned WikiLeaks founder and Australian publisher and journalist Julian Assange in a private audience in the Vatican.

Stella Assange, along with her children Max and Gabriel, and her mother and brother, met with Pope Francis on Friday.

In an interview with Associated Press, Stella Assange said she was grateful for the meeting.

[Pope Francis] has provided great solace and comfort and we are extremely appreciative for his reaching out to our family in this way, Ms Assange said. He understands that Julian is suffering and is concerned.

I have a lot of faith that the situation will change, and there are a lot of people around the world, from all parts of the world here and elsewhere, who are trying to get justice and see freedom for my husband.

Overnight, Julians brother Gabriel Shipton tweeted his appreciation at Pope Francis meeting with the family, noting his response was wildly different to that of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

https://twitter.com/GabrielShipton/status/1674754763651690496

Today Pope Francis in a show of care, compassion and humanity met with Julian Assanges family Stella Assange, her children, mother and brother. I couldnt help thinking back to last month when Stella was in Australia, Julians home, and the Prime Minister refused to meet her.

Assange remains jailed without charge in Britains Belmarsh Prison, as his lawyers fight his extradition to the United States for alleged breaches of the US Espionage Act. The charges relate to Assanges involvement with Chelsea Manning, a former US soldier who leaked Assange a trove of classified documents in 2010, including the infamous Collateral Murder video, which revealed US military targeting and killing innocent people, including journalists, in Iraq.

Assange has been effectively under arrest for more than a decade, after seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012. He remained there until 2019, when he was arrested by police after a new government in Ecuador revoked his asylum. Assange was jailed for a year for breaching earlier bail conditions, and has since been held without charge while he awaits a legal challenge to a US extradition warrant.

Welcome back to the snotty trevalla "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The Geelong inner harbour has welcomed back one of its favourite landbased species, snotty trevalla.

Anglers have been finding success throwing small creature or curl tail soft plastics that work very well and will also get the majority of the other species kicking about in the area. Bait will always be a standout for these with Trellys Chicken working best. Dont knock it until you try it, works really well.

Good areas to target these guys are the Geelong waterfront, Cunningham Pier and North Shore are all fantastic areas to suss.

The outer harbour still remains a popular location for anglers chasing BIG calamari in the shallow water, size 3.0 or 3.5 jigs are working well with natural baitfish colours working best. Some hoods have been getting over 40cm in length so its well worth getting down there and having a crack.

Swan Bay has been a popular location for anglers this past week trying to escape the crazy weather and there has been some great fishing on offer in the channel. Silver trevally, pinkie snapper, salmon and garfish. A key to fishing this area is a steady burley trail and persistence to sift through the rubbish fish, do that and the better fish will start to hit the deck.

The south west estuary systems have been holding some impressive fishing this past week with bream and perch both on the chew, the Hopkins River was a standout.

Peri Stavropoulos from Trellys Geelong along with Jason Bird managed a few bream to 44cm and a few smaller estuary perch. Soft plastics, deep diving jerkbaits and vibes were all working very well. The water has been very dirty so plenty of scent on lures has definitely helped.

Lake Purrumbete still remains to be the best trout fishing location across the state at the moment with plenty of good reports still rolling in of anglers landing brown trout to 8lb along with the usual other species that hang around there like rainbow trout, tiger trout, chinook salmon and redfin.

Casting the weed edges with shallow jerk baits is working very well at the moment.

There has to be something to study, no matter if its parochial or petulant - anything but the Voice - so what's triggering the snowflakes at the lizard Oz this weekend? The lizard Oz editorialist is always a good guide ...

Far-Right fails to shut down Rainbow Storytime event

The Australian Far-Right recently targeted an LGBTQ-inclusive Rainbow Storytime event. However, this time, tactics of issuing threats until the event was cancelled didnt work, writes Tom Tanuki.

ANOTHER RAINBOW Storytime event was targeted by the Far-Right last weekend in the NSW Wollongong suburb of Thirroul. This time, the usual campaign tactic issuing a bunch of specific threats to performers, politicians and so on until the event is cancelled didnt work.

Event hosts accepted the well-meaning presence of the local community with plans to show up to protect and support the event which went ahead. And it went well. Nothing bad happened. Nobody was hurt. Success.

Thats no surprise at all. The Australian Far-Right has never yet mounted a successful physical response to a Rainbow Storytime or queer-friendly youth event. Every cancellation has been due to concerns that range in legitimacy from an understandable fear of reprisal to a bureaucratic paranoia about risk and indemnity.

But, again: theyve never really done much. Their threats have been hollow  a silencing tactic for homophobic clicktivists who don't seem to want to hurt anybody. Every time an event goes ahead, its a success on the inside. And on the outside, an increasingly large community support contingent is afforded another opportunity to show how it can protect childrens events from cancellation.

With all these cancellations, its almost unfortunate for the Australian Far-Right that it rarely gets the opportunity to show how well-organised it is. After all, there have been so many successes it must really have gotten things to...

A state district judge this week ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to begin the process of releasing records related to the May 2022 Uvalde school shooting that the agency has shielded from the public for over a year.

The decision by 261st Civil District Court Judge Daniella DeSeta Lyttle marks a win for a coalition of news organizations, including ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, which sued the agency in August. The lawsuit sought the release of records that would bring more clarity to law enforcements failed response, including emails, video footage, call logs, emergency communications and forensic records.

The public deserves a full accounting of what happened that day, and were glad that the judge has begun that process, said Reid Pillifant, an associate attorney with Haynes Boone, a law firm that represents the news organizations. Were hopeful DPS wont fight this decision, and well begin the process of providing transparency.

DPS did not directly answer the newsrooms questions, including whether it plans to appeal the courts decision. In a statement emailed to ProPublica and the Tribune on Friday, a spokesperson for the agency said that the litigation is ongoing and that the department will carefully consider its options when a Final Judgment is entered.

Lyttle instructed DPS to submit a detailed list of redactions it wants to make to the public records by Aug. 31. The judge said that the court...

Study on protective effects and mechanisms of total glucosides of Paeony on Graves disease. "IndyWatch Feed National"

PMID:  Zhonghua Yi Xue Za Zhi. 2023 Mar 7 ;103(9):689-695. PMID: 36858370 Abstract Title:  [Study on protective effects and mechanisms of total glucosides of Paeony on Graves disease in BALB/c mice]. Abstract:  To investigate the protective effect and its immunoregulatory mechanism of Total Glucosides of Paeony (TGP) against Graves' Disease (GD) model on BALB/c mice.Fifty female (6 weeks old, weighing 16-18 g) BALB/c mice of specific pathogen free were divided into control group according to random number table method, model group, early low-dose TGP intervention group (250 mgkgd), early high-dose TGP intervention group (500 mgkgd), and late TGP intervention group, with 10 mice in each group. Except the control group, the other 4 groups were immunized 3 times (0, 3, and 6week) with recombinant adenovirus expressing the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) A subunit to establish the GD model. The early low-dose and high-dose intervention group were given diets containing different doses of TGP throughout the whole process, and the late intervention group was given diets containing low doses of TGP from the 1week after the 2immunization (week 4). The levels of thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) and total thyroxine (TT4) were detected in the tail venous blood of mice at the 4week. At the 10week, the serum TRAb and TT4 levels and the ratio of regulatory T cells (Treg) in each group were detected, and the pathological changes of thyroid tissue were observed. Serum helper T cell 1(Th1) and Th2 cell-related factors interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-12p70, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interferon-(IFN-) and tumor necrosis factors-(TNF-) were detected to investigate the protective effect of TGP on GD model in BALB/c mice and its mechanism. At the 4week, The level of TT4 [(55.0712.89)g/L] in early high-dose intervention group was lower than that in model group [(74.338.63)g/L] (all0.05). TRAb level of mice between early low-dose, early high-dose, late intervention groups and model group was no significant difference (all>0.05). At the 10week, TRAb [(90.0026.89) U/L] and TT4[(32.668.11)g/L] levels in the early high-dose intervention group were lower than those in the model group [(396.9795.35) U/L, (73.7016.33)g/L] (all0.05). The thyroid tissue of hyperthyroidism mice in the early high dose intervention group showed focal hypertrophic changes, while the thyroid tissue of other hyperthyroidism mice showed diffuse hypertrophic changes. The CD4CD25/CD4Treg ratio in early high-dose intervention group was higher than that in model group at the 10week (4 weeks after three recombinant adenovirus immunization) (

SOTT FOCUS: America has Just Destroyed a Great Empire "IndyWatch Feed National"

Herodotus (History, Book 1.53) tells the story of Croesus, king of Lydia c. 585-546 BC in what is now Western Turkey and the Ionian shore of the Mediterranean. Croesus conquered Ephesus, Miletus and neighboring Greek-speaking realms, obtaining tribute and booty that made him one of the richest rulers of his time. But these victories and wealth led to arrogance and hubris. Croesus turned his eyes eastward, ambitious to conquer Persia, ruled by Cyrus the Great. Having endowed the region's cosmopolitan Temple of Delphi with substantial silver and gold, Croesus asked its Oracle whether he would be successful in the conquest that he had planned. The Pythia priestess answered: "If you go to war against Persia, you will destroy a great empire." Croesus therefore set out to attack Persia c. 547 BC. Marching eastward, he attacked Persia's vassal-state Phrygia. Cyrus mounted a Special Military Operation to drive Croesus back, defeating Croesus's army, capturing him and taking the opportunity...

Sounds of the soil: A new tool for conservation? "IndyWatch Feed Enviro.au"

For Jake Robinson, Greno Woods was an easy choice. This large, old forest in South Yorkshire county in the U.K. has historically undergone timber harvesting, quarrying and fires. Plantations of non-native conifers replaced parts of the forest several decades ago. At the same time, restoration efforts have tried to revive some of the degraded and deforested areas through the planting of native broadleaved and deciduous trees. This setting presented a unique opportunity: to listen to the sounds of restoration. Robinson, a microbial and restoration ecologist at Flinders University in Australia, was particularly interested in two types of area in the forest: sites that had been cleared in the past three years, and previously deforested plots that restorers had planted with native trees more than 30 years ago. Aboveground, the differences between the two were easy to spot. The recently cleared plots were mostly covered by bracken (Pteridium aquilinum), with a sprinkling of silver birch saplings (Betula pendula). By contrast, the restored areas had more diverse trees, including English oak (Quercus robur), sessile oak (Q. petraea), rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) and silver birch, along with a complex understory of bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), bramble (Rubus fruticosus agg.), holly (Ilex aquifolium) and bracken. Field recording in Greno Wood. Sound can be used as a proxy in some cases listening to soil can indirectly show whats happening belowground without having to overturn every inch and disturb the denizens of the dirt. Mysterious spiral-shaped signals detected in the human brain "IndyWatch Feed National"

There are many layers to the human brain. From its wrinkled exterior to its darkest depths, scientists are trying to understand them all. But in honing in on the brain's intricate neural circuitry, they appear to have overlooked patterns of activity swirling on the surface. A team of fluid physicists from the Universty of Sydney in Australia and Fudan University in China discovered brain signals rippling across the brain's outermost layer of neural tissue, the cerebral cortex, on scans of 100 young adults' brains. Signals naturally arranged as spirals, like vortices in a draining bathtub or whirlwinds of turbulent air. "Gaining insights into how the spirals are related to cognitive processing could significantly enhance our understanding of the dynamics and functions of the brain," says senior author Pulin Gong, a physicist at the University of Sydney.

In the Service of Israel: Biden Admin Breathes New Life Into Trumps Abraham Accords "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

H.R. 3099 was Introduced in the House of Representatives on May 5, 2023. This bill, known as the Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords Act, is the latest act by the United States in the service of Israel.

This bill establishes the position of Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords within the Department of State. For anyone who does not remember, the Abraham Accords are agreements to normalize relations between Israel and Arab states that do not recognize Israel. It is an anti-Palestinian accord more than anything. It should be named a bill to guarantee that governments who go against the wishes of their people and are willing to turn their backs to the plight of the Palestinian people will be rewarded.

The first four members of the Arab League to sign this accord were the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan. The initial signing took place in the White House during the Trump administration, and it should be noted that President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu were the only heads of state present. The other countries sent their foreign ministers, ostensibly so as not to be seen signing this disgraceful agreement. It is worth noting that there was extensive widespread opposition to normalizing relations with Israel in all countries that signed the accords.

A US ambassador in the service of Israel

According to the bills text, the Special Envoy, who shall have the rank and status of ambassador, shall serve as the primary advisor to the U.S. government for expanding and strengthening the Abraham Accords. The duties of the Special Envoy include:

Encouraging countries without diplomatic relations with Israel to establish formal diplomatic, economic, security, and people-to-people ties;
Expanding and strengthening existing relationships between Israel and Muslim-majority countries; and
Coordinating efforts across the U.S. government and engaging diplomatically with foreign governments, nongovernmental organizations, and other stakeholders to expand and strengthen the Abraham Accords.

The language in the bill demands that we ask why in the world is the U.S. government engaged in serving the interests of Israel so blatantly. Indeed, the U.S. will be selling arms to these countries, but a larger picture here is not being discussed, at least not enough. You have to hand it to Israel and even more to the Israeli lobby here in the U.S.: They got a superpower to work as Israels sales agent and pay for it. American taxpayers will now be paying additional millions of dollars to solicit or rather bully countries who have not yet established relations with Israel to do so. Is this the best use of American taxpayer dollars? Does this serve Americans in any way? The answer to both questions is No!...

RFK Jr. Poses Grave Threat to Biden in a GOP Primary "IndyWatch Feed Allstate"

Can Robert F. Kennedy Jr. mount a serious primary challenge against President Joe Biden? That is the question on everybodys mind following a poll earlier this month showing Kennedy with a very robust favorability rating. And, after crunching the numbers, we have a definitive answer: Yes. If the two competed for the Republican nomination, RFK Jr. would be a formidable opponent for Biden.

Just last night, both Sean Hannity and Bill OReilly, two stalwarts of right-wing blowhardiness, raised the possibility that the son of Democratic icon Bobby Kennedy could upset the incumbent president.

They are absolutely correct. In a GOP primary, Kennedys high favorability among voters of Donald Trump would probably carry the day for him. That is especially true because Republicans do not like Joe Biden.

A whopping 61 percent of Trump voters have a favorable opinion of Kennedy. That is higher than the favorability ratings of Mike Pence (not surprisingly), Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, and Vivek Whateversmarmy.

As it turns out, only two presidential candidates have a higher favorability score among Republicans than Kennedy and neither of them is named Joe Biden.

In fact, the president languishes at the bottom of the Republican primary field with a favorability score of five percent and, lets face it, the handful of Trump voters who said they liked him were probably drunk, high, or didnt understand the question.

This is just more evidence that it would be a very bad idea for Biden to enter the GOP primary as he would be an underdog not just against Kennedy but also just about everybody else.

And, in a head-to-head matchup with RFK Jr. for the Republican nomination, Biden would get crushed.

There are two reasons for that: First, there is a multibillion-dollar right-wing propaganda machine that has been painting Biden as a (senile...

Cobras to welcome Greyhounds from Glebe "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Rugby leagues State of Origin is as popular as ever while but extinct, however theres a thriving rivalry between a Bellarine Peninsula junior footy club and a club from inner Sydney.

Ocean Grove Cobras and Glebe Greyhounds began the State of Origin concept six years ago when two old schoolmates Cain Sarah (Glebe) and Harvey Stephenson (Ocean Grove) started talking about how good it would be if their boys could play a game against each other.

A Geelong-based friend of the pair, Karl Waddell, had recently started the charity Rivers Gift following the death of his son, River, from SIDS, and supporting such a worthy charity through a State of Origin concept was born.

Each year one club takes its turn to host the other and this weekend Ocean Grove will welcome their Glebe friends down south.

The very first match was 11 kids from each side, but this year Glebe is sending more than 140 junior footballers to Ocean Grove for two days of footy fun and fundraising for Rivers Gift.

Our aim is $30,000 this year, Ocean Grove Cobras president Aaron White said.

Weve had some great support and fantastic contributions from multiple businesses from right across Victoria and Australia to be honest.

Last year almost 200mm of rain fell on Sydney for the Cobras journey north, prompting their hosts to move the games from a waterlogged Jubilee Oval in Glebe across the Harbour Bridge to St Leonards in the inner north.

Mr White said the collaboration between the two clubs was absolutely brilliant.

The friendships that have been built and the bonds that have been made, were looking forward to catching up, he said.

I took on the organising last year as Ive got a soft spot for SIDS. No parent should have to go through losing their child, especially at such a young age. Its something that Im passionate about.

If we can contribute in some way to the research to try and sort this, then thats what well do and continue to do.

This year will be the first clown show otherwise known as the parents game.

Parents from Ocean Grove and Glebe will take on each other with more than 40 from each side playing. Mr White said he was thankful for the numbers because there would be high rotations on the interchange bench, allowing for a regular rest.

That was my drunken idea last year, he said.

After a few too many cans in Sydney last year I thought why should the kids have all the fun?

The State of Origin weekend is on July 1 and 2 at Collendina Recreation Reserve. Face painting, food, drink, and footy are all on the agenda and every cent raised will go to Rivers Gift.

Im an FNQ import and my husband is a tablelands local, my folks come to visit for a week or two every year and 6 years into our life here, weve done all the touristy stuff in the Cairns and Tableland region. This year (late July) they want to go to Cooktown.

What are your recommendations for things to do in Cooktown and on the way there?

They are in their 60s and reasonably fit, but not up for long hikes etc. More an hour or two of power followed by a rest kind of folk.

Northern Rivers Flood Victims Dudded by Government "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns says he will visit the Northern Rivers by the end of next month as part of the regions ongoing disaster recovery.

Mr Minns says a reset is needed and that he has asked relevant senior ministers to visit the region next week.

The move comes after the four state members of parliament representing the northern rivers met with the premier in Sydney on Thursday, along with the seven relevant regional mayors.

Next weeks promised visit is to include more funding announcements after the Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation recently revealed only eleven hundred flood damaged houses out of several thousand would be eligible for government buybacks in round one of its Resilient Homes program.

Fewer than four hundred homes in the region have qualified for house raising or retro-fitting flood mitigation compared to at least two thousand said to be in need.

NSW Police Force is Brutalising Citizens Without Sufficient Records, Let Alone Accountability "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

The recent lethal tasering of 95-year-old great-grandmother Clare Nowland, who was holding a steak knife and suffering dementia, has again brought into stark relief the use of excessive force by NSW police: an issue that despite its prevalence, tends to gradually subside until the next incident.

With this incident, however, there wasnt time to sweep the issue under the carpet, prior to some NSW police officers shooting Steven Pampalian, a North Willoughby man, who was standing on a suburban street holding two chef knives on 25 May: the day after Nowland passed away in hospital.

Whilst it was uncertain if Pampalian was having a mental health incident when he was shot four times, this years inquest into the 2019 shooting death of Todd McKenzie has shown it was clear officers were aware he was having a schizophrenic episode alone in his home when they shot him.

The excessive use of force by police is by no means limited to lethal incidents, however. And there are numerous examples, including an eyewitness account of officers kettling a group of protesters into a corner before dousing them with capsicum spray after a Black Lives Matter rally in June 2020.

I have compiled the following information after many years of meeting women in domestic violence shelters who have experienced violence both in their adult relationships and as a child in the family or caregivers home.

Please note that whilst the following can be perceived as precluding gender diversity as it relates specifically to the women I have met in Domestic Violence Womens shelters for over 35 years where the issue of women overcoming the impact of a violent father /primary caregiver is very current in many womens lives. However this does not preclude maternal violence or the diverse range of primary carers and gender diversity outside of the traditional father / mother / daughter /son narrative.

Conflicted Loyalty and Vicarious Trauma Symptoms

  1. Conflicted Loyalty: Women who have grown up with a violent father often experience conflicted loyalty due to the complex dynamics of their relationship. They may feel torn between their love for their father and the fear and pain caused by his violent behavior.
  2. Fear and Anxiety: Women who have experienced violence from their primary paternal figure may develop intense fear and anxiety as a result of living in an unpredictable and violent environment. They may constantly anticipate danger and have...

i have posted often on the natural community which isv typically an economic dispensation and largely avoided the biological economy.  it is certainly there..

a natural community has to sort out both types of economy in order to function from a general consensus that is not simple or just a majority vote. it also needs to avoid the quick fix of big man governance which is only viable in crisis mode.  Marxism as an intellectual mode is way too simplistice to tackle either economy which ultimately needs the Rule of Twelve.

A mother and sons ninja journey "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Leopolds Michelle Cullanan and her son Jett will head to Florida in July to compete in multiple events at the World Obstacle Sports Expo 23, including the Federation of Ninja Athletics World Finals. They spoke to Matt Hewson about the sport they love and their journey so far.

Michelle Cullanan had always enjoyed competitive sports, including obstacle courses, so when the show Australian Ninja Warrior hit our television screens in 2017 she knew she had to throw her hat in the ring.

Ive always been sporty; I did little aths, netball since I was teeny weeny, I play indoor cricket, basketball, I do functional training, gym work in general; lots of running, Ive done marathons, she said.

I loved obstacle racing, running and obstacles, but I enjoyed the obstacles more than the running side.

So when I saw the TV show come on, I thought oh, this looks good. And then my whole family was like, Mum, you need to go on that.

Obviously I did, and got through the massive application process that you have to do, as well as the videos and interviews. Its actually quite intimidating, some of it, to get on the show.

Michelle competed in the 2018 season of the show, but unfortunately her initial run was not screened. Despite that disappointment, she was more than happy when Channel Nine asked her to work for the show testing the obstacle courses.

The next year, Michelle went on to qualify for the National Ninja League World Championships in the masters category, travelling to the USA for the event and eventually finishing in third place.

By this stage, Michelles son Jett had started getting involved with ninja athletics as well, showing a natural talent for the sport.

Now 13, Jett began training alongside his mother when he was six years old.

Its just fun, it calms me down, takes my mind off the bad things in life, Jett said.

Due to his aptitude for ninja athletics, Jett soon found himself training with the adults as he began competing locally and further afield.

He said he preferred the more serious training, as it allowed him to really push himself.

Its actually made me do more, focus more on the activities, he said.

When I was in the (junior) class I didnt really focus that well because of all the games and things that were happening. It was only really five minutes of doing the actual training.

The World Obstacle Sports Expo, held at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando, Florida from July 26 to 30, is the first event of its kind in the world, bringing the major annual events of three different ninja athletics organisations together for the first time.

The five competitions, which include the UNAA World Series Finals, the FINA World Finals, the Ninja World Cup, the World Ninja Athlete Games Championships and the Ultimate OCR 3km Championships, are held over five days in a packed schedule.

https://media.defense.gov/2021/Mar/03/2002592680/-1/-1/0/210212-A-BI463-0003.JPG

"On July 15, 2022, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence [DNI], amended her original direction to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security by renaming and expanding the scope of the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group [AOIMSG] to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office [AARO], due to the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2022, which included a provision to establish an office, in coordination with DNI, with responsibilities that were broader than those originally assigned to the AOIMSG.

Today, USD (I&S) Hon Ronald S.  Moultrie informed the department of the establishment of AARO within the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, and named Dr. Sean M. Kirkpatrick, most recently the Chief Scientist at the Defense Intelligence Agency's Missile and Space Intelligence Center, as the Director of AARO.

The mission of the AARO will be to synchronize efforts across the Department of Defense, and with other US federal departments and agencies, to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in, on or near military installations, operating areas, training areas, special use airspace and other areas of interest, and, as necessary, to mitigate any associated threats to safety of operations and national security. This includes anomalous, unidentified space,...

Overdose death at Villawood detention centre "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

An African immigration detainee was found dead in his room in Hotham Compound, Villawood detention centre, around 9.00am this morning, Friday 30 June.

It is believed the man died from a drug overdose. It is understood that the man was a humanitarian refugee, who has a wife and family in Sydney, but whose permanent visa had been cancelled because he had breached covid restrictions.

The man was one of those immigration detainees who was released at the end of 2022 due to a High Court decision, but who was re-detained early this year, after Labor changed the law.

For many of the detainees, the overdose death was an accident waiting to happen. One Villawood detainee told the Refugee Action Coalition that it is surprising that drug deaths are not more common in here, given how easy it is to obtain drugs in Villawood.

Drugs are rife in Villawood, there is nothing that you cant get inside the detention centre, said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition, Drugs are regarded as just another way of maintaining a more manageable and compliant detention population.

Prolonged immigration detention creates the circumstances in which drug use becomes more common. This responsibility for this needless death lies with the immigration minister, said Rintoul.

The Department of Home Affairs and detention medical provider, International Health and Medical Services Pty Ltd (IHMS), are already the subject of court proceedings regarding the suicide death of a detainee in Villawood in 2019.

In that case it is alleged that both Home Affairs and IHMS had seriously neglected the mental health of the detainee who took his own life.

There are obviously similar considerations in a case of an overdose death, said Ian Rintoul.

There needs to be a full inquiry not just into the immediate cause of death, but an inquiry that deals with the supply of drugs in Villwood and circumstances of this mans detention. From everything we know, the man should not have been in immigration detention.

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has said many times that the government is committed to risk-based immigration detention policies, and that people should be living in the community if they do not pose a risk.

Section 501 of the Migration Act should be repealed.  It allows explicit discrimination and extra-judicial punishment just because people are not Australian citizens. Now it has inflicted a death sentence; for what?

How to tackle housing affordability in Tweed? "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Tweed Shire Councillor Rhiannon Brinsmead. Photo Aslan Shand

Finding a place to live that is affordable was on last weeks Tweed Shire Councils (TSC) agenda with Mayor Chris Cherry and Councillor Dr Nola Firth moving a Notice of Motion (NoM) to investigate an Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme for the Tweed Shire.

Tweed Shire has the very, very unfortunate statistic of having the highest increase in homelessness in New South Wales in a recent technical paper from last year when a statewide street count was done just prior to the just prior to the great flood, pointed out the Mayor.

We were already the highest increase in homelessness. And obviously, the flood had a massive impact in our Shire as well. So we have a very, very big problem with homelessness. We have a massive problem with affordability in our Shire and we cant sit by and not do anything about it.

Brisbane climate activists get bail "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Activist Jem blockading the port in Brisbane. Photo supplied.

Brisbane climate activists Andy and Max appeared in Brisbanes Supreme Court this morning after being remanded during Blockade Australias actions last week.

Both have received residential bail conditions and they are expected to be released shortly.

A Blockade Australia spokesperson said that in court, Justice Davis condemned the prosecutions submission to not engage in unlawful protest, and to not attend meetings, rallies or protests.

He commented, in response to the prosecutions claims, that He (Max) is a political activist. They are not a flight risk. They are standing and making their points.

It is difficult when you try and distinguish between what is lawful and unlawful protest. The High Court of Australia has made a ruling protecting the right to engage in protest.

The Blockade Australias spokesperson said that Justice Davis went on to allude to the mistakes of the Joh Bejolke Peterson era, in the 1980s, during which many activists were jailed for participating in protest. The Peaceful Assemblies act was passed in 1992 to protect the right to publicly assemble and protest.

Justice Davis condemned the draconian m...

Rohan high on confidence "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

Geelong speedster Gary Rohan is primed to reprise his game-breaking heroics when he confronts his former AFL club Sydney tonight.

The Cats will be without leading goalkicker Jeremy Cameron for the high-stakes clash at the SCG, the star forward sidelined because of a concussion sustained in an accidental collision with Rohan last week.

But Rohan stepped up after Camerons early exit against Melbourne and has taken a huge confidence boost from his match-winning performance.

It was absolutely massive for him, Cats teammate Jake Kolodjashnij told AAP.

He was really good the previous week against Port Adelaide as well, so credit to him. Ever since hes come back from that hamstring injury (in round 12) hes really been pivotal and important for us.

We love what he does; fighting for marks and his pressure around the contest is elite. Hes a great teammate to have.

Cameron also sustained a shoulder injury in the collision with Rohan but the Cats are hopeful he will return for next weeks clash with North Melbourne.

Rohan was visibly shaken after the incident but refocused to showcase his talents, booting three goals to steer Geelong to victory over flag fancies Melbourne.

It squared the ledger at 7-7 and put them on the brink of the top eight leading into the Sydney clash.

It was a pretty shocking incident but he stood up, Kolodjashnij said.

He was unbelievable, probably the game-changer in the end. We love the way he went about it. His speed once the ball hit the deck to push forward and really punish them was the real highlight.

Rohan will partner with evergreen veteran Tom Hawkins in Geelongs attack, while remodelled defender Esava Ratugolea returns from a hamstring injury at the other end.

Cats captain Patrick Dangerfield is also back after suffering a partially collapsed lung and cracked rib in round 14.

Beaten by Geelong in last years grand final, Sydney (6-8) is hanging in the finals conversation despite being smashed by injuries this season.

The Swans are coming off a record-breaking 171-point hiding of West Coast and have set their sights on an upset, having lost to the Cats by 93 points in round six.

Were looking ahead of us this week, Swans coach John Longmire said.

We know what Geelong can do. We know theyre a really good team, but were also confident in what we can do.

Its a new opportunity and game this week. We need to put our best foot forward.

Why I want to learn from Tarkovsky, Ai Wei Wei, William Kentridge and graffiti writers. "IndyWatch Feed Alllocal"

I have been wondering why I draw. I have been wondering why anyone draws or writes poetry or performs and tells stories. Or is a comedian. Or writes books and makes massive sculptures, chooses to be an opera singer, gets a garage band going and graffitis the side skin of a train.

This is a can of worms kind of question. For me, artists, arts funding and the arts consuming public have layers and side roads and dark alleys. There are shouting artists, silent artists, annoying artists and huge ego artists. Emerging artists [ I think everyone is] and mid-career artists what does that mean? and so probably end of career artists. Its pretty good that the arts are a bit more around while the ABC has subsumed the art show into another Creative site. Blame the internet and instagram I guess.

But I am working to be an artist that makes art that I love and do the hard yards of making to improve the message from brain to hand. I read and look at Kentridges work almost daily I collect his books, cant afford his art- and read up on Ai Wei Wei and have discovered...
