Australian government is hit with class action lawsuit over Covid vaccines "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

A landmark Covid-19 vaccine injury class action lawsuit has been filed against the Australian government and the medicines regulator. The nation-wide suit, which reportedly has 500 members including three named applicants, seeks redress for those allegedly left injured or bereaved by the Covid-19 vaccines. One of the applicants who suffered a severe heart condition after getting the Pfizer jab is even claiming there was 'cover-up' during the vaccine rollout which hid the potential risks. The federal government, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Department of Health - in addition to a number of senior public servants - are all named as parties to the class action, which was filed in the New South Wales Federal Court. The named parties are accused of negligence in their approval and monitoring of Covid-19 vaccines, breach of statutory duty and misfeasance in public office. Instructing solicitor Natalie Strijland, of Brisbane law firm NR Barbi, said the action would argue the TGA caused considerable harm and damage by failing to regulate the COVID-19 vaccinations properly. The class action names three applicants, one of whom is 41-year old father-of-two Gareth O'Gradie. Mr O'Gradie, a teacher from Melbourne, was left with a 20-centimetre scar down his chest after developing severe pericarditis inflammation of the lining around the heart following his first Pfizer vaccination in July 2021. In February 2022 doctors performed open heart surgery to remove his the pericardial sac lining his heart.

Limbo: Award-winning First Nations filmmakers quest for truth "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Award-winning First Nations filmmaker Ivan Sens Limbo which follows an investigation into a cold case murder in a small country town   premiered this week in Adelaide.

The theme touches on the often overlooked issue of disappeared and murdered First Nations women.

This film follows a landmark parliamentary senate inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women being launched last year after First Nations women working across various industries fought to bring the issue to light.

Writing about the inquiry, researchers from the Institute for Collaborative Race Research (ICRR) said there has been a relative hush around it, despite its pertinence and urgency.

ICRR researchers also made a submission, along with Sisters Inside, to the inquiry, saying First Nations women, girls and gender diverse people are never just missing they are violently disappeared.

Radio Adelaides Nunga Wangga team speaks with Limbo star and community leader Natasha Wanganeen about the significance of films like this in talking about these issues.

Portarlington Grand Hotel named Best Hotel Accommodation & Best Redeveloped Hotel in Victoria "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Of all the transformations weve witnessed over the past few years, the Portarlington Grand Hotel is hands down one of our favourites.

Built in 1888, the Portarlington Grand Hotel has been sitting pretty on the main street of Portarlington, boasting incredible views of the popular and scenic harbour area. While it had certainly been a while between cocktails at the 132-year-old gem, new operators Franco Biasuzzo and Mark Henderson have transformed the venue over the past two years, bringing the grand lady back to life through an extensive $10M renovation.

My Life Is A Symphony: Kate Ceberano takes time to think about her life in song "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Within the last month, Kate Ceberano has brought us together for celebrations of humanity.

She raised money singing her hits with the Channel Seven team for the Good Friday Appeal contributing to the record-breaking $23,061,320 donation to The Royal Childrens Hospital cause.

Days prior she highlighted the life and voice of fellow jazz juggernaut and friend, the late Rene Geyer, during her public memorial service, closing out a star-studded event of performances from Paul Kelly, Marcia Hines, Russell Morris, Daryl Braithwaite, Ross Wilson and Deborah Conway.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Its what Kate Ceberano does a constant presence that unites the nation through the power of music and her big effervescent smile.

The loss of friends in the industry and retrospective career reflections have been prominent over the last two years. In addition to the shock departure of Geyer, Ceberano and the nation said goodbye to Australian music and acting darling, Olivia Newton-John.

I lost a lot of friends during Covid and I continue to lose them, Ceberano candidly explains.

These are women that shaped who I am. You know, Marcia Hines who is still with us, Chrissy Amphlett, Rene and Olivia Newton-John; these were the women of my era. Each of them were so profoundly different from each other which was beautiful.

The fact that at the time the way of the artists was built entirely on a place of independence and originality, there was no sense that anyone would ever dream of trying to be anyone else. You just wanted to be you. It was the screaming kind of revolution of you.

And these women went out there and crusaded for the rights of all women to be themselves, be their own voices, and control their own minds and independent thoughts. They were a revolution, and long may they reign.

These life celebrations and career reflections run parallel to her own story, circulating the industry at the same time and being a strong, empowering female front. It comes at a time when Ceberano was deep diving into her own career catalogue to form her 30th album.

Community batteries "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

To power Australia without fossil fuels will mean using batteries to store
power from solar and wind. We often think this means home batteries or
large grid-scale installations. Theres another size too: community-scale
or neighbourhood batteries, which are growing rapidly in Australia due to
support from state governments like Victoria and Western Australia and,
more recently, from the federal government.

They seem to solve a lot of
problems we know people are concerned about such as enabling more
rooftop solar and helping to speed up a transition to renewables. But the
popularity of these batteries shouldnt be the only factor in decisions
about where they are rolled out. Sometimes and in some parts of the
grid they make sense. At other times, they may not be the best
solution.

Wild Type: Melbournes Deuce fuse intimate and personal dream pop and upbeat indie rock on new album "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

If youre reading this issue on a lazy Sunday, Deuces second release, Wild Type, is one for you.

Expanding on the cinematic stylings showcased on their self-titled album in 2021, Wild Type continues to propel Curtis Wakeling (The Ocean Party) and Kayleigh Heydons hazy dream-pop vision with effortless comfortability.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Ebbing and flowing between arpeggiated synths, melancholic guitar licks and dreamy indie-pop melodies, Deuces follow-up release can only be likened to the sensibility of a leaf in the wind. It just has that free-flowing quality to it.

Whether its providing shimmery guitar licks alongside murky Ethel Caine-inspired vocals (Fall Apart), or merging twangy alt-country guitars with dark-folk ominosity (That Hill), Wild Type is an album that delivers each song with an equal level of coziness. At times, feeling so casual in its approach that you often forget that youre listening to an album.

Rabbit Hole sees Wakeling adopt a dreary dreamlike quality to his vocals, channelling subtle elements of early The Velvet Underground. Control leans more into the pop side of dream-pop by delivering more upbeat rhythms and catchy hooks in its chorus, while the aptly named Breathe delicately balances dulled vocal harmonies alongside glimmering guitar licks and the bassy horn arrangements.

If Wild Type shows us anything, its that music doesnt need to be brash to warrant attention.

Its multifaceted but not complex, making it the perfect easy-listening album for your Sunday afternoon. Boil the kettle, rug up on the couch and immerse yourself in the world of Deuce, you wont be disappointed.

The Tasmanian AFL Stadium Protest "IndyWatch Feed Tas"

Every now and then, the sharpened, dedicated means of halting a monstrous white elephant before its birth can work. The wise suddenly seem in charge, conscious and aware that folly can be averted. This, however, is a rare feat indeed. In Tasmania protests of some magnitude against a proposed stadium for Australian Rules Football are starting to have some effect. These have taken place against a dark backdrop: a persistent, critical housing crisis; the presence of homelessness; concerns about food and energy security, and healthcare.

On May 13, thousands gathered on Hobarts parliamentary lawns protesting the $715 million proposal that envisages a redevelopment of the Macquarie Point precinct, a rather disingenuous justification to build a needless 23,000-seat structure on prime real estate using public funds. The package totalling $745 million, also envisages upgrades for York Park (UTAS Stadium) in Launceston.

A conspicuous figure present at the protests was one of Australias more prominent authors, Richard Flanagan. As he wrote in The Age last month, Tasmania, and its population of 550,000 people, has two stadiums where AFL games are routinely played. Tasmania doesnt have a stadium problem. It has a housing and homelessness problem. Rents in Australias poorest state have almost doubled over the last five years; affordable properties were elusive to those on Youth Allowance and JobSeeker.

In its myopic vision and scope, the stadium could be said, argues Flanagan, to be a symbol of government inaction on these issues that blight Australias smallest state. In addition to housing, it has Australias worst public health system, and, with 50 per cent illiteracy, a public education problem.

Also present at the protest was federal Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie, who proved to be both colourful and agitated. Tasmanians, she declared in her address to the crowd, have had a bloody gutful over the stadium and you can stick it up your bum.

In what must surely be considered an act of self-harm, the Tasmanian Liberals also find themselves in a governing minority largely because of Premier Jeremy Rockliffs edifice fetish. A day before the large protests, Liberal backbenchers John Tucker and Lara Alexander quit the party. As Alexander reasoned, The proposed shady deal to build a stadium in Hobart has sharply divided the community. While she did not often agree with her opposite nu...

Rushed Removal may damage Indigenous Rock Paintings "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Three sacred Indigenous rock paintings at Murujuga, Western Australia, were removed this month to make room for a new A$6.4 billion fertilizer facility.

Archeologists are concerned about this seemingly rushed operation which may damage the most important rock art site in the world and possibly the next Australian UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Advancing prop tech "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

this is real progress on props.  we are getting it now because we can use 3d printing to mock up trial props for testing.  In the past it meant cranking up the machining tools and every best guess was only so good.

I do think that the big market will be in the water.  They have to find a way to cast them and finish with machining.  Yet every outboard needs this and every power boat.  That number is actually finite and we can tune them with printed props in order to get them right.  Then apply speed with metal and perhaps some trim then

We have needed a better prop solution forever.

Dumb idea: Energy minister fires at Peter Duttons nuclear power plan, urging him to come clean about the facts "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The Climate Change and Energy Minister took aim at the Liberal leaders dumb nuclear power plan, telling him to come clean about the facts of the alternate energy source.

Yashee Sharma, Digital Reporter,14 May, https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/politics/dumb-idea-energy-minister-fires-at-peter-duttons-nuclear-power-plan-urging-him-to-come-clean-about-the-facts/news-story/c98bcf8500bcc643c93b008b19bc9995

Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen has debunked nuclear power statements spruiked by Coalition leader Peter Dutton.

Mr Dutton in his second budget reply on Friday said that any sensible government must consider small modular nuclear as part of the energy mix.

He disputed the Labor governments climate change policies, warning they were putting the country on the wrong energy path.

In response, senator Bowen took to social media with an almost 2-minute-long video on why Peter Duttons nuclear plan is a dumb idea for Australia.

He took aim at the Opposition leader, questioning why the former Liberal government had nine years to introduce the nuclear energy but never got around to it.

Because its a very bad idea, he answered in the video.

The Labor Minister factchecked Mr Dutton with three reasons why nuclear power was not suitable for Australia, with the first being its hefty $400 billion price tag.

He referenced CSIRO findings that detail how renewable energy is the cheapest form of power while nuclear energy the most expensive.

Wherever nuclear power plants are being built around the world, they are taking longer and costing much more than budgeted for, he said.

Even small modular reactors would cost a massive $5 billion each to build and proponents say we need as many as 80 small nuclear reactors spread across the country.

Thats a whopping $400 billion in cost.

Mr Bowen then fired at the huge delays in nuclear reactor construction, claiming that it would take more than a decade to establish a nuclear power industry.

Text and video of Former Frankston Mayor Glenn Aitken speaking at the Stop the Great Wall of Frankston Rally 13 May 2023 "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

The following is much of the text of Glen Aitken's remarks between introductions of other speakers. Glen was the presenter of the rally, but he was also asked to speak before or after or between introducing other speakers.  So the transcript below is compiled of a number of interesting things he said in that context, particularly the insights he provided about how council operates, and especially his advice about how the people of Frankston could help the Council to stand up to the bully that State Governments and ministers have become.  [Glen does not actually call them bullies, but they clearly act that way.  The great fear of council is that they will have their powers even more severely abrogated by the state government if they don't give it everything it demands.]

Transcript of a compilation of Glen Aitken's comments

[Some Councillors] didn't really want to know about it and cried other people down who were trying to make great improvements for your local city. And we're actually in the shadow of one of the buildings that came out of that bad decision making here today. [The South East Water building on Kananook Creek esplanade.]

In the years that I was in Counsel [] I always worked to try and get a better planning outcome with all the applications that came before us in the chamber as far as was possible. What happened in Frankston was about seventeen, eighteen   oh, it would be twenty years ago now - the whole concept of transit cities, was put to us and other key places around Melbourne, such as Box Hill and Dandenong.

Now, councils were promised a treasure trove of money, development, stimulated economies. And, of course, councils wanted to see that in their local area, but one of the conditions, I suppose, of a Transit city is high-rise buildings. Now, in Dandenong, they've received a vast amount of money to redevelop Dandenong centre, and that's very obvious. If anybody has been to Dandenong. You can see all the boulevard, the white areas of paving, and other buildings going up. ...

WALKING to Mount Everest base camp was something that Waanyi and Kalkadoon man Joshua Creamer just had to do.

With no prior training, the Brisbane barrister took on one of the biggest challenges of his life as a reset.

My youngest brother committed suicide after having mental health battles and it was pretty brutal getting through this year, Joshua said.

Sorry business knocks you out and I needed to challenge myself physically and mentally.

Id never aspired to do Mount Everest before, but Id been watching the TV series Alone, where people survive in the wilderness.

I knew I needed a reset and I thought Im going to do

So, within the week, he bought hiking gear and jumped on a plane to Nepal.

I didnt do much research before I went, or I would have scared myself, Joshua laughed.

Leaving his Brisbane-based legal practice, his wife and children, Joshua caught a small plane to Lukla the worlds most dangerous airport.

I was sitting on the plane behind the pilot and the whole time the plane sounded like its going to crash, he said.

Shine a light on neurofibromatosis: the awareness event that lights up Australia "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Shine a Light will light up buildings blue and green in May. Photo www.ctf.org.au/page/285/shinealight

Neurofibromatosis (NF) awareness month in May is an important event for those living with a condition that has been in the shadows for too long. A debilitating and unpredictable condition, NF is one of Australias most common genetic neurological disorders. Over 10,000 Australians are affected by NF, and yet awareness surrounding it is still very low. To shine a light on this disease and acknowledge the struggle of all affected by it, over 100 of Australias most prominent landmarks and buildings will light up blue and green on 17 May.

Neurofibromatosis is a group of genetic disorders that manifest differently in every individual, however, it can cause tumours, hearing loss, blindness, physical variations, abnormalities in the bones, learning difficulties, chronic pain, and cancer. People born with NF require constant care, and unfortunately, there is not yet a cure for this condition. Scientists have struggled for many years to understand the intricacies of this complicated disease, and many questions still remain to be answered.

The Childrens Tumour Foundation (CTF) is currently helping to raise awareness surrounding NF, through continuing advocacy, campaigns and crucial fundraising activities. During this years NF Awareness Month, events and activities include the Shine a Light on NF light displays, a virtual...

Grasslands Audit - "It's like a doctor giving you a check-up but failing to report that you have a missing hand" - VNPA "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Yes, the audit is harsh in some of its detail, but it could have gone much further if it wasnt so heavily constrained by its scope," say the Victorian National Parks Association, adding that, Its like a doctor giving you a check-up but failing to report that you have a missing hand." Candobetter Ed: Well, what else would be expect of a Victorian Government biodiversity audit, when high-rise developers have overtaken the state government? The bastards don't even want us to retain 1% of our grasslands, whilst they already have 90% of the nation's wealth!

An critical audit of the Victorian Governments flagship grassland conservation program is calling for major changes to protect some of the states most precious landscapes.

The long-awaited Strategic Audit of the Melbourne Strategic Assessment was tabled in parliament on Tuesday.

It made 16 recommendations to redesign the program, including a new governance framework to support better decision-making and risk management practices at all levels.

The MSA is an agreement between the Victorian and federal governments to protect matters of national environmental significance. This includes the critically endangered grassland communities and the bandicoots, frogs, lizards, and threatened plants that depend on them for their survival.

The MSA is also supposed to streamline development of the 60,000 hectares of land released for urban growth back in 2010.

But the Strategic Audit plainly describes the MSA as limited in scope, stating it lacks the comprehensive analysis of biodiversity values at an ecosystem scalerequired to achieve whole-of-landscape outcomes.

It highlights that critical gaps in vital data and knowledge hamper the MSA programs ability to adequately assess whether it is meeting its conservation commitments.

Conservation groups the Grassy Plains Network and the Victorian National Parks Association have called for effective governance of the failing program for years.

Victorias grasslands have suffered huge losses since colonial settlement, with 99% destroyed by grazing, cropping and urban development. Once covering almost a third of the state, our native grassy ecosystems are on the brink of extinction.

But, if these recommendations are acted on, at long last we might get some change for the better, Grassy Plains Network facilitator Adrian Marshall said.

The audit found the few high-quality patches of grassland acquired by the MSA are stable which is good news but the bulk of the supposedly protected grasslands are in decline. It also highlighted a clear absence of any requirement to assess how effective different management options are.

This backs up what....

Beyond the ratings: The cultural impact of Australias Reality TV obsession "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Since the first season of Big Brother debuted on our screens in 2001, the genre has become an integral part of Australian television culture, captivating audiences across our sunburnt country. The cultural impact of reality TV on Australia is undeniable, and the statistics reveal just how significant the effect is.

While critics have long debated the merits of reality TV, there is no denying its immense popularity. Australians love talking about their favourite reality TV shows on social media, and every new season and the show is eagerly awaited (FBoy Island Australia, anyone?).

Keep up with the latest Melbourne film and television news here.

The numbers speak for themselves: reality TV shows dominate television in Australia. According to ExpressVPNs analysis of social media and search trends, Survivor, Married at First Sight (MAFS), and The Block are the most talked-about reality TV shows, with Survivor alone hitting a whopping 108,075 share of voice mentions across social media platforms.

While the top four shows, Married at First Sight, The Block, Masterchef, and LEGO Masters, dominated the charts with the highest viewership numbers during their most recent season finales, Ninja Warrior and Love Island were the most searched shows in Northern Territory and Western Australia, respectively.

So, what do these statistics say about our viewing habits? Beyond numbers, the appeal of these shows lies in the drama, the competition, and the emotional connections that viewers feel with the participants.

One possible explanation for reality TVs enduring popularity is its comfort and familiarity. Many of these shows follow a similar formula: a group of contestants live together, compete in challenges, and form alliances, all under the watchful eye of cameras. This formula allows viewers to become invested in the contestants and their storylines, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.

Additionally, audiences can tune in week after week to follow their favourite contestants and feel a sense of continuity and routine, providing a sense of community in our hectic modern lives.

At the same time, reality TV also provides a sense of escapism. For many of us, reality TV is an opportunity to switch off from the stresses of everyday life and indulge in guilty pleasures. Shows like Married at First Sight and Love Island offer a glimpse into a world of glamour and luxury, while shows like...

Biden too scared to come to Australia because of protests about Julian Assange? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Darn it! I was just about to buy my Free Julian Assange shirt to wear in Canberra, and at the Sydney Opera House, and join thousands of others protesting wherever Joe Biden dares to show his face in Australia.

USA Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said on Tuesday that a deal on the debt ceiling negotiations might be made by the end of this week. So perhaps all the panic about the US Debt Ceiling will not be necessary? So does Biden really need to cancel his visit to Australia?

Never mind hes still going to Hiroshima for the G7 summit. Thatll be OK. Everyone will say worthy things about how there must never be another nuclear bombing, and how we must all send drones, tanks, missiles etc to Ukraine . And theyll say it politely -thats the thing.

Nuclear Fantasies "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

ERoEI, or rather lack of it, is what will determine our future. So when a video explaining it really well comes along I like to watch. Id never heard of Leigh Goering before. Initially he certainly sounds like an intelligent person with a great grasp of the subject of ERoEI and its history and the history of the deployment of modern energy systems like fossil fuels and renewables. I even learned quite a lot from this video. But then, he inexplicably starts waxing lyrical about nuclear power as if it wasnt subject to all the limits of the other energy sources he obviously thinks have no future

Over the past few years I have come across a lot of this nuclear fantasy. Its where Simon Michaux shines methinks, no vested interest in any BS!

Leigh Goehring believes nuclear power has astonishingly high ERoEI while he correctly pulls non renewable renewable energy harvesting technologies down to realistic levels. A quick search on work by Charlie Hall who invented the idea of ERoEI reveals nuclear power has an actual ERoEI of 5~15. This is what always happens when you include everything and dont cherry pick stuff to make your favourite saviour look good.

Digging a bit further, I found that the literature is very divided on the EROI of nuclear, listing it at anywhere from 1:1 (i.e., uneconomical at any price) to 90:1 (i.e., the most bountiful energy source in history). Limits to growth will be nuclears last nail in the coffin. Were already in a surplus energy crisis and theres nowhere near enough left to save complex civilisation. I think its ironic this video is titled shortage of everything, except, obviously, nuclear power

CWA calls for NSW govt to reject waste-to-energy incinerators "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

State Member for Lismore, Janelle Saffin, says the NSW Country Womens Association (CWA) voted at its recent AGM to oppose waste-to-energy incinerators.

A waste-to-energy incinerator proposal for the Richmond Valley Jobs Precinct in Casino prompted local resistance, after a similar plan was rejected in Western Sydney owing to air pollution impacts. The Casino proposal, under the previous LiberalsNational government, came without any community consultation.

Additionally Casino, Lithgow, Goulburn and Parkes were locations excluded from a state-wide incinerator ban by the then NSW government.

Ms Saffin said the Tabulam branch put the motion, which was one of several successful motions from the North Coast Group at the AGM in Bathurst this month.

She says, The CWA has adopted a policy to advocate for the newly elected NSW government to rescind its decision to establish waste-to-energy incinerators, and instead immediately introduce technology and waste reduction programs that use methods...

The US is No Democracy! "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

I just love it when all the media political pundits and talk show hosts ( News Talk?) throw out that word Democracy. You dont have to go to a ranch to find more bull excrement than that. Folks, this is not a democracy and probably never was one, all the way back to our founding. Why? MONEY MONEY MONEY is the answer. As long as the masters of our republic keep allowing private money into electoral politics you will continue to smell that bull excrement period!

The Open Secrets site follows the flow of money in political campaigns. After reading the enclosed data you may see why so many of our fellow citizens do not even bother to vote. Not good to do, but here is why, according to 2022 figures:

The average House of Representatives winner spent upwards close to $ 3 million. The loser spent on average around $800k.

The average Senate winner spent over $26 million. The loser spent around 1/2 of that ($13 million)

In my state of Florida DeSantis spent around $200 million. Democrat Charlie Crist spent $31 million, and people wonder why there was such a LANDSLIDE.

In 2022, 384 incumbents ran for re-election in the House 359 won!!

In 2022, 28 incumbents ran for re-election in the Senate 28 won!

If Claude Rains from the film Casablanca was monitoring things for our elections he would have said: I am shocked! There is massive spending going on here!

Statewide and local citywide races are not really different. If someone wishes to run for just about any elected office, where they allow party affiliations, if you are not from one of the Two Party/One Party gangs, then forget it buster! Oh yes, the only exclusion is for someone to be super duper wealthy enough to spend his or her own money to equal that of the other two gangsters. Or have some very very rich friends. If you cannot get your name and ideas out to the general public with an equally massive staff and volunteers. No way Jose! Money talks and everyone else walks! Is that what we want, super rich people being the only ones outside of the Two Party/One Party scam to win office?

In 1997, this writer was living in Indianapolis, Indiana. I was active in street protests against the empire, on both foreign and domestic issues. I was also a writer for a progressive weekly and was lucky to interview attorney Ed Garvey from Wisconsin. He was travelling the nation promoting the just passed Maine Clean Election Laws. In Maine, they actually were able to legislate some form of public funding of statewide elections. Candidates could decide to forego accepting private donations and rely on the small amounts of public funding for their campaigns. Obviously, their Republican and Democrat competitors would still outspend them...

We all know about the danger of a future society where we're all tracked everywhere we go every single day in real time by our phones or devices . . . but actually, it's worse than that! You're already being tracked everywhere you go, every day, and it doesn't matter whether you leave your phone at home just as long as you bring your face. Today on #SolutionsWatch, James explores some of the options that are on the table for heading off the facial recognition dystopia.

Ukraines EU Membership: Now Comes the Hard Part "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

This summer marks a year since Ukraine became an official candidate for European Union (EU) membership under an accelerated process following Russias invasion. Kyiv currently sits at the doorstep of the negotiations stage, which could start this year according to EU officials. Historically, this stage is the longest, most technical, and bureaucratic part of the process, requiring extensive reforms under the Copenhagen criteria a set of political, legal, and economic membership conditions.

In June 2022, the European Commission recommended granting Ukraine candidate status with an understanding that Kyiv must implement seven steps to strengthen anti-corruption and rule of law standards. Kyiv recently stated that it has complied with each of these conditions. The decision now lies with the EU, who must determine if Ukraine fulfilled basic requirements before the rigid negotiation process can start.

While Ukraines progress from applicant to candidate status was rapid, advocates should temper expectations for subsequent steps toward membership; they will not be as swift or simple. Kyiv could be caught in pre-negotiation limbo akin to current Western Balkan EU hopefuls. For reference, it took Belgrade and Podgorica about two years to start negotiations after reaching candidate status. Tirana waited six years to open formal negotiations after becoming a candidate in 2014, while Skopje sat idle for 15 years before opening talks with Brussels. Each nation had a particular set of challenges prohibiting their progress, but these roadblocks were nowhere near Ukraines predicament of fending off an invading military prior to starting negotiations.

The EUs new accessions methodology, revised in 2020, is intended to make enlargement a more credible, predictable, and dynamic. But this modified approach likely wont yield faster results for Ukraine or current candidates. EU accession is grounde...

Power plants may soon go all in on carbon capture. But does it actually work? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The EPAs new proposed rules will require U.S. power plants to slash pollution. But experts are divided on whether carbon capture is the answer.

In a remote field in Saskatchewan, not far from the border with North Dakota, the Boundary Dam coal power plant sends its exhaust into a massive system of pipes and tanks that absorb CO2 and then compress the gas so it can be shipped off to a nearby oil producer for injection underground. The carbon capture system, which cost more than $1 billion to build, first started running nine years ago. Its currently the only large-scale facility of its kind in use at a power plant anywhere in the world.

Its time to embrace community-led conservation vs. the colonial kind (commentary) "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

When I lived on the remote island of Beqa, in Fiji, I watched as foreign-based NGOs entered villages and told Fijians how to live their lives, saying things like no more eating ika bula (sea turtle), and it is time you stop fishing kawakawa (grouper). These environmental NGOs had good intentions, of course, but their work was ineffective. Why would a Fijian man who has been eating ika bula for traditional occasions since childhood suddenly stop because some white guy who spent three days in his village told him to? Why do international conservation organizations often ask Indigenous people to halt their traditional and sustainable practices instead of focusing on larger issues at play, such as the bycatch of giant fishing vessels? I went into conservation to answer the call to better our planet. People like me who want to dedicate their career to help this earth and all of its species will not accomplish anything by allowing any sort of continuance of traditional conservation. Most of our current models of international conservation are dated and ineffective. If we want to make real change, we need to change our mindsets. We need to challenge current conservation practice. The village of Naceva, Beqa, Fiji on a cloudy day. Image courtesy of Audrey Moreng. Some of international conservation today still takes on a new form of colonialism. Colonialism is the exploitation of people, often Indigenous, by a foreign power. It usually involves taking resources, making the colonizer more powerful, all while furtheringThis article was originally published on Mongabay

BEST OF THE WEB: Reality-blindness, and Ethics as Practical Reason "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Are moral standards real, relative, or both? Reading through Hill's overview of the history of western philosophy in After the Natural Law, I was reminded of a thought: that this history and development has largely been an ongoing battle between two opposing worldviews, with land lost and regained over the millennia. Materialism and idealism. Absolutism and relativism. Atheism and theism. Their seeds are all there in the ancient Greeks. But the land itself remains largely the same. And perhaps therein lies part of the answer: it is all the same land. As in, both positions occupy some ground, but like changing borders they miss the wider truth: that the land itself encompasses both. Reality can tolerate either extreme position, to a degree, because each takes into account a part of reality as a whole. But they are incomplete on their own, and when either demands exclusive worship like some tribal god, they commit a form of philosophical blasphemy. Borrowing somewhat from political...

Radio Free Asia: A US Propaganda Organ "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Radio Free Asia: A US Propaganda Organ

On April 26, Mary Zhao, a writer for Radio Free Asia, wrote a bizarre piece attacking China for not providing transgender girls with necessary medicines, exposing once again the absurd lengths to which the US propagandists will go to undermine a nation it has targeted. The same day, they posted a cartoon of French President Macron portrayed as a chicken for daring to state that Europe must reduce its strategic dependency on the U.S. to avoid getting caught up in crises that are not ours and for China commenting positively to what he stated. On the same front page, they posted false stories about North Korea, Myanmar and Vietnam.

So, as we celebrate International Press Freedom Day on May 3, what is Radio Free Asia?   The answer-it is an arm of the US propaganda forces arrayed against the peoples of Asia to try to maintain US hegemony over them by manipulating their minds, their thoughts, their perception and their understanding of the world around them.

RFA tries to mask its role as a propaganda organ by attempting to appear objective. One of the devices they use is a Fact Check page, where its editors ask themselves questions and provide their own answers. For instance, they ask if the waters between Taiwan and the mainland of China are international waters. The answer they give is, of course, yes, and so US naval patrols through the Taiwan Straight are, according to them, legal under international law.

But of course, they arrive at this answer by regarding Taiwan as a separate country and not part of China when in fact Taiwan is part of China and so the waters between the mainland and Taiwan are all Chinese territorial waters just as Canadas waters in its archipelagos are considered internal waters by Canada. There are other examples of their facts clashing with reality, but let...

Class action for contamination caused by the Australian Defence Force "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Contributed from Victoria

Some 30,000 people across Australia will have a direct interest in a class action to win compensation for contamination of their homes by Australian Defence Force. It is alleged that toxic chemical spraying was used at a range of military bases, and this has affected large areas around them. The result has been the spread of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS). These accumulate in the bodies of plants and animals and are known to damage reproductive, developmental, and other biological systems. Shine lawyers have taken on the case.

A previous hearing in February found the case proven. But the plaintiffs saw the compensation offered as insufficient to cover the losses and refused to sign a settlement. It has now gone back to court.

Participants in the class action say their homes were covered with a fine dust, plants dont grow properly, and they and their families have been hit with major health problems. Even the health of their pets has been affected. Some studies have found a link to liver damage, and kidney and testicular cancer.

PFAS were widely used in firefighting foams at military bases until the early 2000s. Residents within the contaminated areas have been trapped in toxic homes for many years, and it is only now that the whole truth has emerging.

The case appeared in the court last Monday and is expected to last about 6 weeks. Landowners in Wagga Wagga (NSW), Richmond (NSW), Wreck Bay (NSW), Wodonga (VIC), Darwin (NT), Townsville (QLD), Edinburgh (SA) and Bullsbrook (WA) are being represented.

According to Craig Allsop, head of class actions at Shine Lawyers,...

Transcript

Thank you very much Glenn, and it's great to see so many people here this morning. Standing up for your community and your civic-mindedness is a powerful antidote to the greed and short-sightedness that dominates way too much of modern thinking and policy.

You know, I hear a certain amount of talk about NIMBYs.  You realize that it is our responsibility to protect our neighborhood. It is the Australian government's responsibility to protect Australia. It's the Victorian government's responsibility to protect Victoria. It's the Frankston council's responsibility to protect Frankston. If we are not looking after our neighborhood, our backyard, then we are not doing the right thing either by ourselves or by future generations. So that is not selfishness. Don't be seduced by these calls for unselfishness, which come with all the sincerity of a Mississippi riverboat gambler.

I believe that people are are entitled to a say in the character of their street, their neighborhood, their community. When I was younger, and I was, always been very interested in environmental things, I thought maybe centralized government might be better, and I saw a federal Labor government saved the Franklin River, but over the years, I have realized that local communities can be relied on much more than remote bureaucrats, or corporations to protect their patch. So, the first thing is, you are entitled to a say, and I also believe that democracy has to have content.

If people don't feel that they have a genuine say in what is happening in their lives and in their neighborhoods, than the fine words about democracy ring hollow, and people become cynical and apathetic, and democracy gradually gets eroded. So, I believe that people need to be given a say, even if sometimes they make mistakes [they] need to be given a say in what happens in their lives and in their communities.

The second thing I want to say is that the density that we are seeing with the proposals here for these high-rise towers is bad for social justice.

Now, one of the things that developers and their advocates will tell you is that this is good for housing affordability. They employ these spin merchants who are a bit like that tobacco Lobby or the fossil fuel Lobby. They are very good at throwing smoke. They'll tell you that this is good for housing affordability. In fact, it is the opposite. If you deregulate planning and allow developers to build high-rise buildings, the cost of land goes u...

Total Dwellings Approved Fell Slightly In March, Says ABS "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

The total number of new dwellings approved for construction decreased by 0.1 per cent in March, in seasonally adjusted terms, following a 3.9 per cent rise in February, according to data released this week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Daniel Rossi, ABS head of construction statistics, said The result was driven by a 2.8 per cent fall in approvals for private sector houses, following an 11.3 per cent February rise. Private sector house approvals remain 15.0 per cent lower than March 2022, Mr Rossi said.

Private sector dwellings excluding house approvals increased 5.6 per cent in March, following a 9.7 per cent decrease in February.

This is the sixth consecutive month where the trend result has fallen for total dwellings approved,  Mr Rossi said.

Across Australia total dwelling approvals decreased in Tasmania (-42.1 per cent), South Australia (-19.1 per cent), and Queensland (-6.7 per cent). Western Australia (+27.2 per cent), New South Wales (+3.1 per cent), and Victoria (+1.7 per cent) rose in March.

Approvals for private sector houses fell in most states: New South Wales (-4.0 per cent), Queensland (-3.9 per cent), Victoria (-3.8 per cent), and South Australia (-0.1 per cent). Western Australia was the only state with a March increase (+8.7 per cent).

The value of total building approvals fell 5.9 per cent, following a 19.5 per cent rise in February. The value of total residential building approvals fell 6.5 per cent, comprised of a 6.4 per cent decrease in new residential building and a 7.4 per cent fall in alterations and additions.

The value of non-residential building approved decreased 5.1 per cent, following a 41.0 per cent rise in February.

Who will replace Ken Ham? "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Calm down, hes not dead yet. At his age, though, hes probably contemplating his future successor. Bodie Hodge, his son-in-law, is a blithering goober, and the other people at the top of his organization are women, so naturally theyre out of the running. Andrew Snelling, Terry Mortenson, Danny Faulkner? Negative charisma. Tim Chaffey? Hes tall, thats about it. Nathaniel Jeanson? An insufferable twit.

Apparently, Ken has been recruiting back in the homeland of Australia, and he has landed a real winner: Martyne Iles. Hes perfect. Hes young. Hes loud. Hes a confirmed hater: he doesnt want anything to do with the gays or the transes, he despises the idea of climate change, he hates commies. Hes a cerfiable culture warror, and his ideology lines up nicely with Ken Hams.

And now hes been hired as Chief Ministry Officer for Answers in Genesis.

Also interesting: he was formerly the Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby, but he was kicked out. The apparent cause was that the ACL, under his leadership, was flopping badly. Australians kept passing those danged liberal laws anyway. He was ineffective and obnoxious.

The ACL grew rapidly under Iles its membership tripled, Iles said but its size wasnt the boards problem. It was struggling for political impact. In a few short years, it recorded losses on virtually every single key issue: same-sex marriage was legalised in 2017, just months before Iles took the post; almost every state in the country has loosened laws on abortion and voluntary assisted dying; and major steps against faced with the potential for a multi-term Labor government that saw the group as at best irrelevant, the Australian Christian Lobby needed a major strategic reset.

So now he has left Australia to a country that if more favorable ideologically. Hes just like Ken Ham!

They have one other thing in common: theyre both abominably stupid. Heres Iles evidence for god.

Resistance is a continuous endeavor "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

For more than 75 years, Palestinians have organized for a liberated future. Today, as resistance against Israeli apartheid intensifies, unity and revolutionary optimism has become the main infrastructure of struggle.

alt
Melbourne, Australia. Image credit Matt Hrkac CC BY 2.0.

It is nearing the 75th commemoration of the beginning of the Nakba, and Palestinians have mourned at least 150 martyrs since the beginning of 2023. Currently, 4,900 Palestinians are detained in Zionist jails, including 160 children. But for Palestinians on the ground and those of us in exile, the revolutionary optimism remains, underlying a long, arduous, steadfast struggle for liberation.

Since the Unity Intifada of 2021, we have witnessed a clear, systematic rise in popular armed resistance in Palestine. With it comes a necessary reckoning with the current phase of the Palestinian struggle for liberation from Zionist settler-colonialism. Unity among Palestinians has characterized the Unity Intifada, as the name suggests. Palestinians are unified against the Zionist project, in spite of the deliberate, systematic fragmentation imposed upon them.

The notion of unity, especially regarding armed struggle, prisoner revolt, and labor revolt, is what consistently rings the loudest. It rings loudest despite a colonial separation wall, military checkpoints, and indiscriminate detainments by the Zionist state and the comprador Palestinian Authority (PA). It rings despite a genocidal blockade on Gaza, and the imposition of arbitrary colonial categoriesIDs, passports, permits, and laissez-passers.

After the martyrdom of 18-year-old resistance leader Ibrahim Al-Nabulsi in August 2022, the Lions Den made its first appearance in public. Heeding Ibrahim Al-Nabulsis call to action, a grassroots, youth-led, revolutionary armed faction sprouted from the occupied West Bank cities of Nablus and Jenin. We long recognize these cities as two nuclei of Palestinian resistance. The conditions of 75 years of brutal settler-colonialism birthed Ibrahim Al-Nabulsi,...

Shipping Container Hire vs Self-Storage "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

When youre bursting at the seams with stuff and need extra storage space, you have two popular options: self-storage or shipping container hire. But between these two handy storage solutions, which one of these shipping container services is better?

Self-Storage is a service companies provide that lease storage space to individuals or businesses. It can be in the formation of a room, locker, container, or outdoor space.

Shipping Container Hire involves renting a shipping container delivered to your desired location. These containers are typically made of steel and come in various sizes ranging from 8ft to 40ft.

The Pros and Cons of Self-Storage

Pros

  1. Self-storage eliminates the headache of complicated rental procedures and the burden of transporting your own container.
  2. Some self-storage facilities offer temperature and humidity control to safeguard your belongings from extreme weather conditions.
  3. Security measures such as CCTV cameras and security staff provide extra peace of mind.

Cons

  1. Some storage facilities may have limited access hours, which can be inconvenient if you need to access your items outside those hours.
  2. Finding the ideal storage space for your belongings can be tricky when units come in predetermined sizes.
  3. The cost of self-storage can add up over time, especially if you require a larger space.

The Pros and Cons of Shipping Container Hire

Pros

  1. Shipping containers can be delivered right to your doorstep, making storing your belongings easy and efficient.
  2. Some Shipping Container companies even offer Serviced Storage, meaning they will pack the Shipping Container for you.
  3. They are mobile, so you can opt to have the container stored at your premises or a Storage Facility.
  4. You can choose from a variety of sizes depending on your needs and budget.
  5. Renting a shipping container can be...

Sydney is ground zero for housing shortage "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Lowest building approvals in a decade

It was another very subdued report for building approvals in March, declining slightly further to a seasonally adjusted 12,686 for the month.

Clearly there's a major issue brewing in the largest capital cities as the Aussie population is set to gap upwards by 1 million plus.

Greater Sydney saw the approvals of just 14,672 houses over the year to March 2023, with the number trending even lower as developers increasingly struggle to make projects work.

There were a couple of brighter spots in the capital cities.

Across Greater Melbourne, where access to land supply is typically a little friendlier, detached house approvals may now have turned upwards.

Looking ahead, about  of the Build to Rent sector dwelling supply will also go to Melbourne, although this will take time to hit the market.

In Brisbane there's a desperate shortage of housing, with anything decent under $1 million being snapped up in no time with multiple offers...except, that is, for development sites, which are often languishing without much competition.

Unit approvals are at least on the rise again in Brisbane, after bottoming out in October 2022.

Sydney's unit approvals, on the other hand,...

More Metabolic Syndrome news "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

I cannot express how chuffed I am this podcast has come up Nate is obviously too busy with all he does to get involved with mere Mike Stasse on a personal basis, but I do know he reads at least some of the stuff I post on social media because hes left the odd comment on my FB wall. Then a week or three ago, he mentioned metabolic syndrome in one of his franklies I could not help thinking, did he pick this up from me? Because to be honest Im literally the only one banging on about the importance of this epidemic on FB, as it ties in with all the other emergencies were facing.

Over the past seven or eight months, Ive learned a huge amount regarding nutrition. Ive watched hundreds of videos and read tons of articles on the low carb high fat diet, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome but had never come across Robert Lustig. Having said that, Im really starting to think that this whole issue is finally coming out of the woodwork, as it should. Because I think its a definite driver of collapse as health systems everywhere are crushed. More and more people are joining the dots, at last.

Enjoy.

Stock listings dry up "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Listings drop

So much for the fixed rate cliff leading to forced sales - stock listings dropped sharply across the board in April.

New listings were down -20 per cent, while total listings fell -9 per cent.

Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane all saw significant declines in total listings.

Over the past year there have been increases in Canberra, and Hobart, which is finally normalising after genuine boomtime conditions.

Overall, stock levels remain much tighter than normal, with 227,000 listings nationally.

Vale Father Bob: refugee supporter "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Father Bob Maguire was an advocate for the poor, the homeless and those who were marginalised by society. He was also a fierce advocate for refugee rights.  Many will have seen him at the Park Hotel/Prison last year at age 87, when he entered the cage in solidarity with the men held in the Park. []

New home sales crunch continues "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

New home sales fall again

New home sales fell by -7.2 per cent in March, and have effectively been cut in half since the first quarter of 2022.

With cancellation rates now above 30 per cent, many builders are reporting "negative sales" over recent months according to the Housing Industry Association:

Source: HIA

In New South Wales, new home sales have fallen by more than three-quarters from a year earlier, portending a dire shortage of properties in Sydney as immigration ramps up.

Queensland and Victoria aren't faring much better, to be fair.

With more and more development projects being scrapped, Australia is heading for an unprecedented housing shortage.

Due to the "potential for further interest rate rises" - and for financial stability purposes - a record 300 basis...

Construction insolvencies to record highs "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Construction failures soar

There were another 524 construction insolvencies in the March 2023 quarter, an increase of 93 per cent from a year earlier.

235 of the failures were in New South Wales, 149 in Victoria, and 89 in Queensland.

The residential construction sector is known to have a high multiplier, and failures will ripple out through subcontractors and small businesses, in turn hurting the economy.

Over the year to March, there were 2,130 insolvencies in the sector, including 964 in New South Wales, 583 in Victoria, and 332 in Queensland.

Unfortunately this shrinks the capacity of the sector to build homes, with many projects now failing or being scrapped.

Financial markets aren't pricing any further rate hikes, but with lending for new homes and construction already sinking to decade lows policy is already wel...

On NOT joining the dots "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Out of the blue, this video of someone Id never heard of before came up on my feed. It sure looked interesting, and by the time I was half way through, I thought, this guy is on the money, hes even on Simons page! But I was wrong.. How anyone smart enough to show the best explanation of climate change and its repercussion on the food supply Ive ever seen could not know about peak oil is really amazing

Adam Simon is an associate professor of mineral resources with the University of Michigans Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. When you google him with oil or peak oil as search terms, you get nothing. Bizarre

Hes also wrong about American mining safety. https://edition.cnn.com/2013/07/13/us/u-s-mine-disasters-fast-facts/index.html

And as I suspected, hes also wrong about renewable energy being cheaper. Everywhere I have looked, the deeper the penetration of renewable energy, the costlier electricity is, and Texas is no exception.

eX-detainee Refugees who arrived by boat in Australia strongly condemn the UK governments proposed adoption of Australias neo-fascist, anti-refugee stop the boats blue-print "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

RISE: Refugees, Survivors and eX-detainees is the first not-for-profit Refugee and Asylum seeker organisation in Australia to be governed by eX-detainee Refugees. We were founded in 2010 by an eX-detainee who was held hostage in both offshore and onshore detention camps after arriving by boat to Australia to seek asylum.

We eX-detainee Refugees from RISE who were detained upon arrival by boat in so-called Australia are alarmed by the UK governments proposed stop the boats bill.  We cannot call it a mere coincidence that the current British ruling political party is touting these xenophobic policies while at the same time employing white supremacist Australian election campaign managers who have a long history of using anti-refugee wedge tactics to win elections in Australia at the cost of human life. Former Australian Prime Minister and current advisor to the UK government, Tony Abbott, has demonstrated an eagerness to spread this neo-fascist model in a past statement, saying that Europe is facing a peaceful invasion of asylum seekers while urging European leaders to secure their borders with Australian-style policies to avoid losing control as they risk losing their character. Australia is notorious for creating the modern blueprint of refugee detention torture and refugee boat turn back policies over decades to whip up xenophobic, white supremacist sentiments for votes. Many of us eX-detainee refugees are permanently disabled, and many of our community members have lost their lives on land and sea due to these murderous policies.

According to our experiences in Australia, the stop the boats and boat turns back policy has caused a permanent blockade of the right to seek asylum in Australia by boat. Persecuted refugees have no choice but to make perilous journeys, traversing both land and sea to seek refuge and safe haven. Australia undermines this wholeheartedly and turns refugee boats back into the arms of persecutors without any accountability. The Australian government implements this final solution against refugees by brazenly participating in joint military operations and espionage activities with military dictatorships and war criminals and funding corrupt government officials in the Asia Pacific to stop people smuggling and save deaths at sea. We, eX-detainees in Australia, call on UK-based rights supporters and politicians to stop more crimes against humanity by blockin...

My novel, One for the Master, published by Wakefield Press in 1997 and short-listed for the 1998 Miles Franklin Award, has also been re-published as part of the Untapped Project .

Bedding with the Australian Department of Home Affairs, who torture and abuse us, makes you a white supremacist eX-detainee Refugees about Queer Displacement conference "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Bedding with the Australian Department of Home Affairs, who tortures and abuses us, makes you a white supremacist eX-detainee Refugees about Queer Displacement conference

While queers were parading with politicians, military, police, and detention profiteers at the Mardi Gras, in so-called Sydney, Australia, an organisation established by white queer refugees called Forcibly Displaced People Network held a Queer Displacement Conference. One of their sponsors was the Australian Department of Home Affairs. In addition to this, the Department of Home Affairs funded parts of their research on queer refugee settlement in Australia.

What is comical here, is that their white saviour privilege and colonial approach cannot be hidden. The organisers of this event are clearly collaborators with our torturers. Thousands of refugees who came by boats, all of whom are people of colour, have been and are still being indefinitely detained, tortured, murdered, abused, and deported under the direction of the Australian Department of Home Affairs  headed by Senator Claire ONeal. eX-detainees who are subjected to torture and abuse by the Australian Department of Home Affairs include people of all genders, sexualities, and sex characteristics. There are an unaccountable number of queerphobic practises and incidents of sexual abuse, torture, and murder faced by the refugees in Australian-run detention centres for over 30 years.

In addition to overseeing detention torture and refugee boat pushbacks of black and brown refugees, the Australian Department of Home Affairs is also involved in ongoing espionage and border security operations with overseas military dictatorships and other corrupt money hungry officials in the Asia Pacific through the Bali process to stop the boats and keep so called Australia white. Many of us eX-detainees and detainees have sought protection from these very same military dictatorships and perpetrators of genocide.

The eX-detainee and detainee community is arguably ONE of the poorest, racially profiled, and systematically discriminated against community groups in Australia as well as around the world. Reducing our ongoing systemic oppression and cancelling our lives in Australia is white supremacy Bedding with the Australian Department of Home Affairs, who tortures and abuses us, makes you a white supremacist. You are likely to know this, if you are an eX-detainee or person of c...

My theory revisited "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Theres a lot of talk over the internet about the current excess deaths numbers. Theres no doubt its happening, the data is clear. Pundits like to blame the covid vaccines. Maybe those vaccines have killed people, but what I find interesting is that those people are dying of EXACTLY what people suffering from Metabolic Syndrome die from.. It cannot be a coincidence.

Tim Noakes reckons that 80% of Americans are insulin resistant, and Id be prepared to bet Australian and British people wouldnt be far behind. Insulin resistance must surely be growing exponentially, just like everything else in the world is. Global health systems are getting overwhelmed by this and will likely be part of the looming collapse. Im more certain than ever that a population crash is imminent. This is a couple of years old and pre excess deaths data, but I think he pretty much would agree with me today.

To top it all, the powers that be are wanting to make it all worse by reducing meat consumption. I have no doubt that agriculture is a serious contributor to climate change. You cant drive all that diesel powered machinery, manufacture all the agro chemicals and fertilisers, process all that resulting food and distribute it globally with more fossil fuels in ships, planes and trucks without belching more CO2 into our already overburdened atmosphere. But then to blame cows is utterly bizarre. Because theyre carbon neutral and could be carbon sinks if managed properly.

Queer eX-detainees urge artists, presenters, and other participants to boycott the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, which also hosts WorldPride 2023, in so-called Sydney, Australia. "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Queer eX-detainees urge artists, presenters, and other participants to boycott the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, which also hosts WorldPride 2023, in so-called Sydney, Australia.

Who are we ?
RISE:Refugee, survivors and eX-detainees is a not-for-profit association and the FIRST eX-detainee led and governed welfare and advocacy organisation in Australia. RISE is a unique organisation distinguished by our ethics of self-determination and community control. RISE raises the bar in the non-profit sector by ensuring we are not subservient to politicians or businesses by not accepting blood money from the Federal government, State government, local government, or corporations who invest in detention, prisons, the military, or are complicit in land grab or labour exploitation.

What is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG)?
Started in Sydney as a celebration after a protest march and commemoration of the Stonewall Riots of New York City back in 1978, the parade was a march against discrimination, police harassment, and the criminalization of queerness. Their rally was met with violence by the police. Many of these protesters were arrested and abused in police custody, and those arrested were further outed by mainstream media, leading to detrimental consequences to their lives.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is now an annual queer party, arts and cultural festival for the privileged middle class based in Sydney, Australia. It is predominantly run by queer white people and a few handpicked queer people of colour.  Like many queer festivals around the western world, SGLMG is now bedding with politicians as well as boot-licking the military, police, and corporations. Following the diversity trend, in recent years, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has been working towards ticking diversity boxes after many years of centering [white] gays and lesbians, whilst not updating the Gay and Lesbian in their festival name.

What is InterPride and WorldPride?
Founded in the US, InterPride is a western global organisation whose members are mainly organisers of queer festivals across the world. A licensed event by InterPride, WorldPride is run every 13 years, each time in a different location. InterPride members would nominate and elect which city/queer festival in the world would win the right to host WorldPride during a particular year.

Being US- and Western centric, InterPrides Global Advisory Council has around 2 representatives from each of the 20 re...

The Australian Greens and their Liberal Party allies part II "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

 Gerry Jackson
13February 2023

How was the Liberal Party reduced to its present sorry state? In a sense the Liberal Party at both state and federal levels really consists of two specific groups. There is the establishment that treats the membership with disdain and then there is the partys shrinking base. The job of the base is pay-up and shut up. It is there to man polling booths, hand out leaflets and wave placards, nothing more, other than pay party dues. To the establishment the idea that any member of the base could have something of value to say is considered risible. Victoria is a perfect test case for this scornful attitude. Party bluebloods like Michael Kroger and David Kemp set out to make it impossible for informed members of the base to make themselves heard. Kroger ensured that members of the base would not be allowed to use the Liberal Speakers Group as a means of communicating ideas and informed opinion to their fellow Liberals. It is because of these characters that Menzies forgotten people have returned.

The establishment elite decided that in future only influential people (sic) would be invited to speak at the LSG. Those little nobodies, of which the base consists, would only be permitted to listen to their superiors and then be thankful for the privilege. For those who think I exaggerate, allow me to remind you that in December 2007 the imperious David Kemp he was then the partys state president tried to gag ordinary party members. Having insulted the base, he then had the unmitigated gall to announce that Julian Sheezel who was then State Director of the Victorian Liberal Party had done an exceptional job during the federal campaign despite the fact that Iron Man Julie, as we called him, was another Kroger pick and a complete failure1.

The mighty Kroger, as his very good mate Andrew Bolt called him, couldnt pick a winner in a one-horse race. Being a loser didnt stop Kroger from banning the formation of new branches because he feared they would pose a danger to what is laughably called his leadership. So rather than expand the party structure he worked to truncate it, even as the party was bleeding members.

The utter incompetence and selfish behaviour of the establishment created a barrier to anyone with genuine leadership ability from ever emerging from the base to challenge an establishment hack. The base craves a genuine leader, not some merchant banker, not any stock market paper-pusher, and certainly not someone picked by a bunch of Toorak bluebloods. But this crew believe, as does Cameron Thompson, a former member Howards Coalition Government, that [l]eadership comes from above. On the contrary, leadership arises from the most unlikely pl...

A pack of lies. "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

The amount of crap available on the internet these days seems to be growing exponentially. And unless you are equipped with the best quality BS filter, its not hard to be taken in by it. Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes gospel truth.

Take my recent health/diet epiphany. When I wrote about it, I stated that going keto had fixed my prostate problems. And I was amazed, because frankly, how could this even happen in two days? It turns out that it didnt. Its a long story I wont bore you with, but what the keto diet repaired wasnt my prostate, it was my kidneys. So why did I think it was my prostate? Because for years, medicos had been leading me up the garden path. Yes I have an enlarged prostate, yes its probably impeding urine flow, but its only mild and had nothing to do with my nocturnal visits to the loo.

In July last year, I had my annual blood test and the doctor said that my kidney and liver functions were not great, but it was nothing to worry about just yet, keep an eye on things. Meanwhile, I was getting UTIs far more regularly than any bloke should have (women are far more prone to such problems), even puzzling the doctors. Its not supposed to be my job to work out what is wrong with me, its theirs, but so ignorant are doctors regarding chronic inflammation and the damage carbs do that none of this even crossed their minds.

Dr YouTube to the rescue. It turns out that among the bewildering list of things carbs can do to you, kidney disease and fatty liver disease are prominent. Having had another bout of urine looking like strong tea after eating a single apricot (I am not making this up) it was back to the doctor. By the time I got an appointment (remember that our health system has started collapsing) my urine looked normal again and I had another blood test, which revealed, drum roll, that two months into the keto diet those kidney and liver functions had gone back to normal. Even then, the doctor started talking about antibiotics and seeing a specialist. Im not doing any such thing I told her, Ill look after myself thank you very much.

Ive since learned that more and more doctors are challenging the standard nutritional diet guidelines. The result though is that the establishment is attacking them left right and centre. We cant expose all their lies, now can we?

Heres the latest, a UK cardiologist fighting the same fight our local Tassie orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gary Fettke was exonerated for two or three years ago. His name is Dr Aseem Malhotra.

The Australian Greens and their Liberal Party allies part I "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Gerry Jackson
6 February 2023

The manner of the decline and virtual destruction of the Victorian state Liberal Party helps explain  the role so-called moderates and cynical opportunists played in bringing down the Scott Morrison government thereby advancing the Australian Greens anti-growth policies.

In 2002 election year the Victorian Liberal Party, always ready to shoot itself in both feet, replaced as leader of the party the disastrous Denis Naphine with the catastrophic Robert Doyle. The result was a humiliating and unprecedent electoral route. Determined to take the Liberal Party further down the road to political oblivion the moderate Mr Doyle haughtily  declared in 2003 that Victoria needed to implement sustainability policies because the free market is  a menace to the environment.

This is an echo of the greens deceitful canard that the market is wasteful, that it pollutes the environment, that it is rapidly depleting the planets natural resources and that it ignores the needs of future generations. Another so-called green critique is the assertion that entrepreneurs are short-sighted, greedy and seek only quick profits at the expense of the community. In addition, the market lacks the foresight, knowledge and the resources that only green policies can command. In short, Doyle came across as an Adam Bandt1 min-me. So why was Michael Kroger one of his very keen supporters?

As mayor of Melbourne Doyle stated, in his typical bombastic fashion, that urban sprawl should cease because it threatens farm land. However, the same self-righteous Doyle, who calls himself a moderate, has no objection to the same land being smothered in solar panels or deeply scarred by monstrous wind turbines. What gives here? Why did he consider urban development that houses ordinary working Australian families bad for agriculture but not destructive solar farms? For those of you too young to remember urban sprawl used to be called urban development.

Proving that they are incapable of learning from their mistakes the party appointed the effete Ted Baillieu as party leader. He managed to scrape out a win in 2010 but resigned after two years to be replaced by the craven milksop Denis Naphine who allowed fanatical anti-greens to bully him into banning fracking. No wonder this weathervane moderate (that word again) lost the election to the execrable and thuggish Dan Andrews whose corrupt administration has misruled Victoria for eight years and will continue to do so for at least another four years. (Andrews is the same corrupt political left-wing goon that had Cardinal Pell jailed on false criminal charges.)  Naphine was quickly replaced by Michael OBrien, another...
