Die Polizei hat das Handy des Thringer CDU-Chefs Mario Voigt aufgemacht. Der wird der Korruption verdchtigt und hatte initial erklrt, er wolle bei den Ermittlungen gegen sich mithelfen, hat dann aber den Entsperrcode fr sein Handy nicht rausgerckt.
Hier der bemerkenswerte Absatz:
Erst mit Hilfe einer Spezialsoftware habe die Polizei das Handy entsperren knnen. Das sei erst mglich gewesen, nachdem der Hersteller ein Update fr eine Software zur Verfgung gestellt habe.Was genau soll das heien? Der Hersteller hat dem Handy per Update-Prozess eine fr die "Spezialsoftware" verwundbare Version bergeholfen?
Oder... die "Spezialsoftware" kommt gar vom Hersteller und der hat denen ein Update gegeben, damit sie das Telefon aufmachen knnen?
In beiden Fllen kooperiert der Hersteller mit der Polizei gegen seine Kunden. Da htte ich ja gerne den Namen des Herstellers erfahren.
Oh warte, das "Hersteller" kann sich auch auf den Hersteller der "Spezialsoftware" beziehen. Wieso wrden sie das dann aber hier erwhnen?

Freedom of Information Act - Moderna, Pfizer Corporate Australia
As a result of Defending the Republics (DTR) successful Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), we are excited to announce that we are releasing nearly 15,000 pages of documents relating to testing and adverse events associated with Modernas COVID-19 vaccine Spikevax.
DTR filed its FOIA lawsuit after the FDA denied the expedited production of Moderna COVID-19 records, stating there was no compelling need or urgency for the public to review this information. This spring, DTR reached an agreement with the FDA for the production of approximately 24,000 pages of some of the most important records submitted by Moderna in support of its Biologics License Application (BLA). This is the first part of that production. Later this year the FDA will produce approximately 8,000 more pages of Moderna documents.
These documents are the first significant release of data from Modernas COVID-19 clinical trials. They reveal the causes of deaths, serious adverse events, and instances of neurological disorders (such as Bells Palsy and Shingles) potentially associated with Modernas COVID-19 vaccine.
Importantly, these records also demonstrate the utter lack of thoroughness of these studies. Many of those who died after receiving the Moderna vaccine were not given an autopsy. According to one study, 16 individuals died after being administered the Moderna vaccine. The studys authors indicated that out of those 16 deaths, only two autopsies were performed, five of the dead were not autopsied, and the autopsy status of nine of the dead was unknown.

Phoenix, Arizona, passed 20 days with high temperatures above 110F. Massive rainstorms and typhoons are flooding cities and towns from India to southern China to New England. Raging Canadian wildfires are blanketing the eastern United States with thick smoke that can cause long-term respiratory damage.

Dr Moore said in a press release on Monday, Data from the past few weeks has highlighted we are at a critical and vulnerable point in time.
When it is cold, people dont think of preparing their homes for summer. But now is the time to act before we feel the effects of El Nio, which increases the risks of drought, heatwaves and bushfires.
The longer we delay delivering the type of housing required for a changing climatic future, the more costly it will be to retrofit poor quality and under-performing housing in the future.
Suggested retrofitting ideas include sealing up gaps and cracks around doors, windows and walls; improving or adding ceiling, wall and underfloor insulation.
Safety issues
Dr Moore adds, For those with a few practical skills, you can DIY but there are some safety issues to watch out for.

Housing crisis brutal says social housing advocate National News Echonetdaily
More than four in five renters are in housing stress, with homelessness the leading impact of the housing crisis, a report by national housing campaign Everybodys Home has revealed.
According to the advocacy group, based on surveys of almost 750 people, its Brutal Reality Report found that two thirds (67 per cent) of people are in housing stress; four in five (82 per cent) renters are in rental stress; three quarters (75 per cent) of people are scared about their financial security because of the housing crisis; and two thirds (66 per cent) of people are worried about their mental health and wellbeing.
An Everybodys Home spokesperson said, The report also surveyed housing and welfare organisations across Australia. Nine in ten (89 per cent) reported bigger and more complex workloads, while three in five (61 per cent) said their staff were experiencing burnout or leaving their roles due to the crisis.
Spokesperson, Maiy Azize, says they are calling for more social and affordable housing for people in extreme rental stress.
Our shortfall is so big that some people in our survey have been waiting for over a decade.
Social housing is the best way to free up cheaper rentals and boost the supply of affordable homes. The federal government must create 25,000 new homes each year to meet the social housing shortfall.
Our national, state and territory leaders must work to create a better deal for renters. Its time to end unfair rent increases and no-cause evictions for good.
The federal government has to also phase out unfair tax breaks for investors. People told us they want the government to fund homes for people in need, not investment vehicles that push prices up for everyone.
Meanwhile, public submissions into a federal Senate inquiry into the worsening rental crisis in Australia will be extended till August 4.

Officials are baffled by the remarkable behaviour of a large pod of pilot whales that grouped together in a heart shape before stranding themselves on a remote Western Australian beach. Drone footage captured the moment the pod of almost 100 long-finned pilot whales moved tightly together before stranding themselves at Cheynes beach about 60km east of Albany on Tuesday evening. By Wednesday morning, more than 50 whales lay dead on the shore, with volunteers, government workers and scientists fighting to save 46 more. WA's environment minister, Reece Whitby, said researchers from across Australia were baffled by the never-before-seen behaviour of the whales in the hours leading up to the stranding.

While few details are known about the impacts of waste-to-fuel operations, the draft permit indicates carcinogens will be released into the air if this waste-to-fuel incinerator is allowed to operate.
Moreover, there are many unanswered questions regarding how waste will be accepted, processed, and disposed of, leaving us in the dark about the full extent of its impacts.

WASHINGTONThe Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs will hold a hearing titled Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Implications on National Security, Public Safety, and Government Transparency. The subcommittee hearing will explore firsthand accounts of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and assess the federal governments transparency and accountability regarding UAPs possible threats to U.S. national security. This hearing will also highlight legislative efforts to bring transparency to UAPs and require the federal government to provide the American people with information about potential risks to public safety and national security.
The Pentagon and Washington bureaucrats have kept this information hidden for decades, and were finally going to shed some light on it. Were bringing in credible witnesses who can provide public testimony because the American people deserve the truth. Were done with the cover-ups, said Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.).
In 2022, at the direction of Congress, the Department of Defense created the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) to investigate UAP reports. The federal government spends millions of dollars examining UAPs yet refuses to be forthcoming with the American people as it continues to declassify certain videos and studies on various UAP incidents with little clarity on the subjects origins.
The status quo on the part of the U.S. government has been to leave the American public in the dark regarding information about UAPs, refuse to answer questions posed by whistleblowers, avoid the concerns Americans have about the possible threats UAPs pose to our national security and public safety, and default to extreme and unnecessary over-classification. How about other parts of the world that apparently experienced no such disconnect? Support the Troops makes no claim to explain what happens outside the US and UK cases. But I wonder if, by missing aspects of the international, were missing a part of the condition of possibility of all this? In what follows, I will consider the international that has allowed for support to emerge as the new service in some parts of the world, even as others continue to serve and support in some other parts of the world.

Too many Australians still dont know who Daniel Duggan is, even if his case has significant repercussions and says a lot about how legal process is Australia is being transformed into something that we should all be worried about. Everyone should know more about what is happening to this man.
Daniel is a former American and now Australian citizen and a family. He was once a US marine, and since coming to Australia, built a pilot training business. This led him to a contract to for commercial pilot training in South Africa, with a company that goes by the name of the Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA).
It happened that he had some of the students were Chinese citizens. Theis led authorities in Washington to accuse TFASA and Duggen of working with the Chinese to undermine United States policy. It led to action to capture Duggan, and it appears, with the assistance of the Australia Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), which is immersed in the United States led confrontation with China.
Through this agency Daniel Duggen was called and offered a job in Australia. He went for it, was arrested by federal police and imprisoned, wasnt offered bail and has been kept in solitary confinement. Fleet-footed agility and sharp thinking rarely characterise the plodding bureaucrat. An argument can be made that different attributes are prized: cherished incompetence, spells of inattentiveness, and dedication to keeping things secret with severity. What matters is not what you did, but what you pretended to do.
Even with maintaining secrecy, the plodding desk-job hack can face problems, all falling under the umbrella term of human error. Papers and files can stray. The occasional USB stick can find its way into unwanted hands. And then there is that damnable business about the cloud and who can access it.
Despite repeated warnings over a decade by the Amsterdam-based Mali Dili, contracted to manage email accounts of the West African state, traffic from the US military continued to find its way to the .ml domain, the country identifier of Mali. (For all we know, this may still be happening.) This arose because of a typing error, with .mil being the suffix for US military email addresses.
Other countries also seemed caught up in the domain confusion. Over a dozen emails intended for the Dutch military also found their way into the Johannes Zuurbier with .ml being confused with .nl. Eight emails from the Australian Department of Defence, intended for US military consumption, also met the same fate. These include problems about corrosion in Australias F-35 and an artillery manual carried by command post officers for each battery.
The man most bemused by this is not, it would seem, in the Pentagon, but a certain Dutch entrepreneur who was given the task of managing the domain. Johannes Zuurbier has found himself inconvenienced by the whole matter for some years. In 2023, he decided to gather the misdirected messages. He currently holds 117,000 of them, though he has received anywhere up to 1,000 messages a day. He has been good enough to badger individuals in the US national cyber security service, the White House, and the local defence attach in Mali.
The Financial Times reports that the contents of such messages vary. Much of it is spam; a degree of it comprises X-Rays, medical data, identity documents, crew lists for ships, staffing names at bases, mapping on installations, base photos, naval inspection reports, contracts, criminal complaints against various personnel, internal investigations on bullying claims, official travel itineraries, bookings, tax and financial records.

On 29 November, 2022 the Australian Senate referred an Inquiry into current and proposed sexual consent laws in Australia. Today at the Senate Hearing into current and proposed sexual consent laws across Australia, No to Violence CEO Jacqui Watt called for an affirmative consent model for any case that comes before the court.
Other recommendations that have been made include harmonising Australias consent laws across all jurisdictions to ensure consistency of both laws and understanding of sexual consent which were recommended by both Full Stop Australia and ANROWS (Australias National Research Organisation for Womens Safety) who both provided submissions to the Inquiry.
The Law Council recognised the inconsistencies in consent laws across various jurisdictions on the experience of victim-survivors in their submission and supported a national evaluation of sexual consent laws. They also recognised that women and girls are more likely than males to have experienced sexual violence and that the incidence of sexual harm often overlaps with other patterns of violence, including family and domestic violence and child abuse, and disproportionately affects already marginalised groups in society.

In November 2011, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and President Barack Obama announced plans for annual deployment of a US Marine Rotational Force to Darwin and US Air Force aircraft to Australian bases in the Northern Territory, commencing in April 2012.
The United States Australia Force Posture Agreement signed on 12 August 2014 formalised a much larger strategic upgrade of alliance arrangements initiated by the two leaders. Over the past decade both governments have made very large budgetary commitments to infrastructure developments at Australian defence facilities in northern Australia under various headings, including the Australian Defence Departments continually evolving United States Force Posture Initiative.
A key feature of the Force Posture Agreement is the concept of Agreed Facilities and Areas, defined in Article I of the Agreement as follows:

As potential corruption revealed, Albanese Government must urgently evacuate the survivors of offshore detention Media Release Archive | Human Rights Law Centre
The Albanese Government must immediately evacuate the 75 remaining survivors of offshore detention from Papua New Guinea and shut down its detention centres on Nauru, as it accounts for the multi-million-dollar secret payments that have propped up offshore detention over the past decade.
Investigative reports this week have revealed multi-million-dollar payments by government contractors to politicians in Papua New Guinea and Nauru. Reports suggest that these payments were made with the knowledge of the Department of Home Affairs, and even senior government figures in Australia.
It has also been revealed that the former Morrison government entered a secret deal with the Papua New Guinean Government to continue payments to provide for the 75 people left behind in PNG. This came after PNGs Supreme Court shut down formal regional processing arrangements and the Australian Government claimed to have no ongoing involvement.
Together, these reports reveal the corruption and duplicity at the heart of offshore detention. They also raise serious questions around the Albanese Governments continued expenditure on regional processing operations in both Nauru and PNG.
In light of these reports, the Human Rights Law Centre is calling on the Albanese Government to immediately bring the 75 people still remaining in Papua New Guinea to Australia and provide permanent safety, as a first step to ending the long-running and systematic abuse.
Farhad Bandesh, an artist and musician who was previously detained on Manus Island, said:
In Manus Island, we saw everyday acts of corruption, exploitation and censorship that were designed to keep us detained and keep the detention camp operating. Now, we hear that this kind of corruption was likely widespread, and could have involved senior politicians and officials on both sides. This is what happens when a government creates opportunities for people to profit from the torture of other people. This is the reality of a system designed to create suffering. The only solution now is to bring all the people remaining in Papua New Guinea to safety, and shut down this system once and for all.
Mehrdad, an engineer who was previously detained on Manus Island, said:
I was detained for years on Manus, attacked in the riots that cost Reza Berati his life. Australian-funded contractors were allowed to attack and kill us Australian tax dollars paid for what was done to me. I have friends from that time who are still stuck in PNG. Before a Royal Commission or any investigation, the governments first responsibility is to bring everyone to safety.

Demanding IPEF timeline threatens to undermine open and inclusive process of negotiations AFTINET
25 July, 2023: There has been increasing criticism of the process for negotiating the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) with the recent conclusion of the fourth round IPEF negotiations in Busan, South Korea which reported incremental progress.
The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) is a regional forum initiated by the US that proponents say will strengthen economic cooperation between its 14 participants and divert supply chains away from China. IPEF, unlike traditional trade agreements, does not include market access commitments like lower tariffs. Instead, the main incentives are increased investment and capacity building projects in addition to commitments to improve human rights, labour rights and environmental standards in the region.
The US has set an ambitious timeline to conclude IPEF negotiations before the US-held Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November. However, there are concerns that US pressure to quickly conclude IPEF is harming the transparency of the process, even for negotiators.
Increasingly limited stakeholder consultation
IPEF promised to be a new model of progressive trade arrangements which prioritises high labour, environmental and human rights standards. The rhetoric of IPEF has centred heavily on inclusivity and engagement during negotiations.
However, from the start of discussions, the US has prevented IPEF countries from revealing the negotiating texts until 5 years after the negotiations are completed. This is a year longer than for The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, a previous trade agreement widely criticised as opaque and corporate-dominated.
Despite the announcement of the substantial conclusion of pillar 2 supply chain negotiations in Detroit in May, the text of the completed agreement has still not been released. IPEF governments have not responded to calls from AFTINET and other civil society groups to release the text.

Call for a super profit tax to create affordable housing is on the mark The Pen

One of Australias biggest unions. The Construction Forestry Mining Maritime and Energy Union (CFMMEU) is launching a push for a major rise in government investment on affordable housing. The unions national secretary Zach smith says this is necessary to take on the housing crisis that so many are facing in his country.
The union had commissioned Oxford Economics to analyse of the impact of a super profits tax on the biggest corporations to fund the construction of new affordable homes. The resulting proposal is a permanent 40 percent tax on super profits for companies with a turnover of over $100 million a year. This would apply to only 0.3 percent of companies and would raise around $29 billion a year and go a long way towards meeting the need for 750,000 new dwellings.

Proposing a super profits tax might seem like quite a radical move. It isnt. Its the least of what is needed for Australia to meet its obligation as a signatory to the 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which codified and mandated housing as essential to human right.
Even if this convention didnt exist, adequate housing for all would be taken up by a society that values the principle that dignity and a standard of living in line with community expectations should be available to all.
Australia has a responsibility to ensure this becomes a reality.

Did Google mislead advertisers about TrueView skippable in-stream ads for the past three years?
This report finds that advertisers including Fortune 500 brands, the US federal government, and many small businesses may have been misled for years about Googles proprietary TrueView skippable in-stream video ads. This misalignment may have cost media buyers up to billions of digital ad dollars, which were ultimately spent on small, muted, out-stream, auto-playing or interstitial video ad units running on independent websites and mobile apps.
TrueView is Google's proprietary cost-per-view, choice-based ad format that serves on YouTube, millions of apps, and across the web. With TrueView, advertisers only pay for actual views of their ads, rather than impressions. TrueView asks users if they want to skip the video ad after 5 seconds with a visual prompt. Googles policies state that TrueView ads must be skippable, audible, and playing of the video (and ad) cannot be solely initiated by passive user scrolling.
However, this research report finds that for years, significant quantities of TrueView skippable in-stream ads, purchased by many different brands and media agencies, appear to have been served on hundreds of thousands of websites and apps in which the consumer experience did not meet Googles stated quality standards. For example, many TrueView in-stream ads were served muted and auto-playing as out-stream video or as obscured video players on independent sites. Often, there was little to no organic video media content between ads, the video units simply played ads only.

Sure, recycling is one important solution to our plastic crisis, but only 9% of plastic actually gets recycled. Therefore, its crucial that we curb our production and consumption of plastic, and fast.
Thats where Plastic Free July comes in: a global challenge to reduce single-use plastics. The project was begun by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz in Australia in 2011, and is now a part of the nonprofit Plastic Free Foundation, formed in 2017. On the organizations website, people can take the pledge to reduce their plastic waste at any level: for a day, a week, a month; to avoid single-use packaging exclusively, or go completely plastic free.
But how do you get started? Use this simple guide to consider areas of your life and home in which you can easily reduce plastic waste with a few swaps to reusables, or different methods that sidestep plastic altogether. Remember: Plastic Free July isnt about being perfect. Its very difficult to completely remove plastic from your life especially given accessibility and economic barriers to some elements of sustainable living but about reducing your consumption wherever you are able.
