Inventi Ensemble "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

Experience the joy of live music with your preschooler at our monthly cushion concerts.

Cushion concerts are a series of live performances for children by local as well as internationally recognised musicians. They are affordable and presented in a relaxed and friendly environment.

We choose music that is stimulating for young listeners, make sure each concert is unlike the last and keep the performance under 40 minutes.

Children bring a cushion (or borrow one of ours), as well as a teddy and a snack. If they need to move around to get a better view, want to dance or stretch out on the floor, thats fine. If a child has a question or want to talk about the performance thats great.

Sarcoma Awareness Month: Brisbanites shocking cancer diagnosis "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Researchers and advocates are calling for greater funding to support cancer research, particularly Sarcoma, this July for Sarcoma Awareness month.

Sarcoma is a rare and complex cancer that can form anywhere in the body, and with over 80 different subtypes, this makes funding for research vital.

Sarcoma is not commonly diagnosed, with only 1.5% of all cancer diagnoses in Australia being Sarcoma. It typically impacts younger patients where 20% of all young cancer diagnosis are Sarcoma, and for young adults, that is 10%.

It is known as one of the most common cancers in children, but can impact people of all ages, and speaking with The Wires Aryana Mohmood about her sarcoma journey and the need for more research is Brisbane-based mother and sarcoma survivor, Jacqui Cooper.

As Brisbane looks ahead to the Olympics, the survival of Brisbane parks hangs in the balance "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

The Queensland Government proposes to build a full-sized athletics warm-up track in Brisbanes Raymond Park for the 2032 Olympic Games.

The parkland located in Kangaroo Point is one of many locations in surrounding inner-city suburbs eyed for major infrastructure changes over the coming years.

Why are the proposed plans for the parkland controversial, and what overall impact will the Olympics bring for Brisbane?

1951 And A Reason To Avoid An Early Double Dissolution "IndyWatch Feed Tas"

In recent weeks there has been a lot of speculation about a possible early federal double dissolution, after the Greens and Coalition deferred Labor's Housing Australia Future Fund Bill 2023 until October.  The Albanese government says that this deferral constitutes "failure to pass" the Bill for the purposes of Section 57 of the Constitution and that if the Senate were to block or defer the Bill again, then the Bill would become a trigger for an early double dissolution election whenever the government wished to call one.  The Greens dispute that the deferral is "failure to pass", but it would be a brave Governor-General who refused an election to a government that had an even arguable case that that box had been ticked, and in my view the government's case is more than merely arguable.  There are questions about the mechanics regarding whether the Bill needs to be withdrawn before the Senate could fail to pass it again, but in some form or another it seems to me the HAFF Bill could become a double dissolution trigger if it is not passed in October or shortly afterwards.

This article concerns not the mechanics of whether and how Labor can acquire an early double dissolution should it be unable to pass the HAFF Bill (though I am happy to have that discussed in comments), but whether it is a good idea strategically.

During the last term of the Morrison government it was generally obvious that a DD was a terrible idea for the Coalition as it would throw away the government's excellent 2019 half-Senate result and flood the Senate with even more minor party Senators than in 2016.  But for Labor, a DD now is considerably more thinkable in terms of the composition of the Senate.  If Labor could roughly repeat their 2022 result, then they would erase the 2019 slate in which they won only 11 state seats to the Coalition's 17.  The improved prospects for minor parties might not then mean that Labor's seat tally increased, but the DD would throw a bunch of Coalition seats to minor right parties and could also create extra avenues for (Labor+Greens+X) to pass Bills.  My estimate of a DD result if the 2022 vote shares were repeated is Coalition 28 Labor 26 Green 12 One Nation 5 Legalise Cannabis 2 UAP 1 JLN 1 Pocock 1.  Note that that is also only a few seats short of the level at which Labor plus the entire non-Greens crossbench is a majority, for what that's worth.

Enthusiasm for Labor improving its own seat position in 2022, with thoughts that the Greens should be very afraid as they could lose seats, has been seen since noises were made about the HAFF Bill as a DD trigger (...

Wednesday: Currently 53.62 to Labor.  Thought I'd throw in some stats I think are interesting.  Firstly Aston was one of only two seats that recorded 2PP swings to the Coalition in both the 2016 election and the 2019 election, the other being Petrie.  There were 18 seats that swung to Coalition in 2016, generally inner-city seats where Malcolm Turnbull was popular and the 2016 campaign resonated, but 16 of them swung to Labor in 2019.  This might all be about the personal votes of Alan Tudge and Luke Howarth, but I think it more likely speaks to both seats' status as hybrid in character between inner city and outer city seats,  which makes losing the seat even more unfortunate.

Secondly Labor's victory margin in Aston will exceed the margin that the Liberal Party had before the by-election.  This as concerns major parties (ignoring crossbench wins) is very unusual, with only Bass 1975 and Lowe 1982 being clear examples of the same in the last 100 years; Parkes 1931 may have been another if thrown to completion.  (There are four arguable examples in the first 20 years of Federation but those all get asterisks for one or more of the original election being voided, first past the post, or there being three major parties at the time.)

Sunday: The margin is trivial compared to the result but in any case a large number of postals have broken very weakly to Campbell so far and Doyle's 2PP is 53.58%.  There are a few thousand postals to go plus some provisionals and a few other votes but I expect very minor movement from here onwards.  There is also no doubt I can see now that Labor will win the primary vote, for what th...

Filling the Gaps "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

This is my year for filling in gaps (not just in my blog, oops), but among my trees.  Lots of non-tree things have also been happening, but Ill fill those gaps in separate posts.

First we had to go back and find the trees that didnt quite make it from last year.  Ive now conclusively established that Phalaris grass is a killer of young native trees, and has to be sprayed out to stop it doing that .  The only other grass that is a similar problem is couch. Otherwise the mulch maps are effective. We had to re-do 80 in one of last years windbreaks, but the main area along the pine line was in very good shape (no Phalaris).

The little enclosure by the Adnamira homestead is on its third go, however, after I had Marga and Dmitry plant Tagasaste as a possible forage tree (none survived), mixed natives and oaks last year (only the 3 oaks survived), and now slashing, plus spraying and planting Cunninghams casuarina . Well see how that goes, but casuarinas also have the ability to defend themselves using root phytotoxins which could take care of the Phalaris.  These river casuarinas are rated well for fire danger, as are the oaks.  The Phalaris is not.  Well probably have to slash the little paddock again before the summer as any grazing animals will prefer the trees.

Western Queensland - Winter 2023 Part 1: Longreach to Mt Isa "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Chestnut-breasted Quail-thrush

We set out with much anticipation for a string of bird, mammal and other wildlife targets in far western Queensland. Unseasonal rain prevented access to some planned sites and restricted time at others. Still, it was a productive trip. We opted to travel via Mitchell and Longreach, then south-west to the Winton-Jundah Road before proceeding north. We had planned to head from there to Diamantina National Park and the Coorabulka area but rain put paid to that, so instead it was north to Cloncurry and then Mt Isa in search of grasswrens and other goodies. From there it was south to Boulia and beyond (second post to follow for the final leg).

Zelensky Cancels All Elections Becomes Dictator for Life "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

QUESTION: Is it true that Zelensky is canceling elections?

HZ

ANSWER: On June 22, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a dictator installed by the West to create World War III against Russia. Zelensky told the BBC that Ukraines scheduled 2023 parliamentary and 2024 presidential elections would occur only if martial law had ended by that time, as reported by the New Voice of Ukraine. Hence, he has a personal reason not to seek any peace whatsoever.

There is NO WAY Zelensky is fighting for democracy -0 this is all propaganda. He hates Russians and refuses to allow them to separate as per the Mink Agreement and, at the same time, refuses them to vote in any Ukrainian election, no less for their independence. Zelensky is an outright war criminal, and over 8 million Ukrainians have now fled their own country because he refuses to end the war and is destroying his own country all for Blackrocks investment scheme. His own people would remove him from office, so he cannot allow any election, and there is no way NATO or the USA will allow free elections in Ukraine.

There is no way this war will end without the Donbas destruction and Russias fall. It is a proxy war that the United States started. CIA chief John Brennan traveled to Kiev in 2014 and instructed them to begin the civil war. Kiev called the Russians of the Donbas terrorist because they sought independence from LKiev just as Kiev sought independence from Moscow.

Variation is wonderful "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Im stealing a fascinating thread on Twitter from Kathleen DePlume. In some ways, its unsurprising: if you compound the natural variation in enough parameters, youll discover that everyone is unique. Its a question of including broad tolerances, and the real question ishow broad do they have to be to accommodate 99% of humanity? And another question would bedont the remaining 1% deserve a place as well? The math is nifty but it isnt the whole of human reality.

So, did you ever wonder why car seats and seatbelts are so wonderfully adjustable? It all goes back to cockpit manufacture.

The USAF wanted to make aircraft with seats and belts fitted to the normal airman; the tolerances werent too wide, but lots of fellas are normal, right?

Wrong.

As it turned out, hilariously wrong.

You see, they measured several thousand enlisted men (just men these were the dark times before women were people) on just a few things.

Leg length, knee to ankle, hip to knee, various seat measurements. Seating height to shoulder.

Shoulder width. Arm length. Shoulder to elbow, elbow to wrist.

You get the point.

Measurements that would allow the cockpit and belts to be correct and safe, as long as they were close enough to the normal specifications.

So, after taking these measurements a great undertaking, the measures got so good at it that they could do all 38* measurements in under 2 minutes they analysed the data.

*I might be misremembering the exact number

They figured if every measurement had tolerances that fit 30% or so normal men, then theyd lose a few percent to the abnormally shaped weirdos (you know the ones people whose arms are way longer than their height, or who have tiny hands compared to their feet?) theyd still fit at least 20% of their potential pilots into the custom measured Everyman cockpits, right?

Wrong.

So, so very wrong.

How many pilots do you think fit in the normal measurements on all 38 metrics?

Go on, take a guess. Ill wait.

Actually, no I wont, because Im writing this as a thread.

Zero. The answer is zero.

Not a single soldier was within tolerances on all measurements.

Out of thousands and thousands of airmen measured, every last man was abnormal on at least one.

It turns out that while yes, arm length and leg length arent exactly independent (if youre tall you probably have long arms AND long legs), their r-value isnt anything like high enough...

26,000-foot Himalayan mountain summit crumbled around 1190 CE, leaving evidence in the plains below "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Earth is home to 14 "eight-thousanders," summits that top off at more than 8,000 meters, or 26,247 feet, above sea level. All of these grand mountains tower over the Himalayas, the highest place in the world. But our planet is dynamic could there have been additional peaks like these, since lost? "We wanted to know whether, 830 years ago, the Earth and the Himalayas had one more," says Jrme Lav, a geomorphologist at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Lorraine in France. The answer, according to Lav and his colleagues, appears to be yes. In a new paper, published in the journal Nature on July 6, they've found evidence of an ancient landslide that reshaped South Asia's geography and linked that to the collapse of a peak that would have once been one of the tallest mountains on Earth. Lav says his team first spotted the fingerprints of this medieval landslide not in the Himalayas, but far to the south, near the India-Nepal border, in the...

Peter Dutton ramps up nuclear power push and claims Labor down renewable rabbit hole "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Opposition leader to tell Institute of Public Affairs that domestic reactors are natural next step from Aukus pact

Daniel Hurst, 8 July 23

The opposition leader, Peter Dutton, has ramped up calls for nuclear power in Australia, casting the move as a way to avoid dependence on wind and solar technology from China and a natural next step from the Aukus pact.

Dutton will make the comments on Friday at an event organised by the Institute of Public Affairs, a Liberal-aligned thinktank that has publicly opposed curbs on coal-fired power and has lobbied against the net zero by 2050 policy.

He will use the speech in Sydney to call for a debate about removing the legislative ban on nuclear power in Australia, a step that was not taken during the nine years of Coalition government, in which he was a senior member.

Duttons pitch comes just days before the Liberal National party in Queensland holds its state conference, where delegates are expected to propose several pro-nuclear resolutions.

He is likely to find a receptive audience for the message at the IPA, given tha...

Welcome to the Global Financial Crisis of 2023 (Part Six) "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Silvergate Bank Announced its bankruptcy on 8 March 2023
Silicon Valley Bank Taken over by the FDIC on 10 March 2023
Signature Bank Taken over by the FDIC on 12 March 2023
First Republic Bank US$30 billion liquidity rescue by 11 banks on 16 March 2023
Credit Suisse Swiss Government shotgun wedding with UBS on 19 March 2023

Thats five bank failures or rescues in 11 days, including Credit Suisse, one of the largest banks in the world and the second largest in Switzerland.

Combined losses of stockholders and creditors of these institutions exceed US$200 billion. Market losses in the banking sector are much greater.

Walter Wriston, the greatest banker of the 20th century after Pierpont Morgan, personally tutored me on this topic 40 years ago.

In a bank run, you can pull your money out of banks and invest in gold, silver, land, or anything else. But you give the money to the seller, and she puts it back in the bank.

The point is the money always ends up in the bank. The system is a closed circuit.

Of course, it could go to a different bank, but all banks can borrow from each other through the fed funds market and the Eurodollar market. Again, the money always ends up in the bank.

Putting cash in a coffee can (or mattress) is one exception, but if you try to withdraw more than US$10,000, your bank will file a Currency Transaction Report (CTR) with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), and youll end up in a file next to Osama bin Laden. And the IRS gets a heads-up.

So, thats not a practical solution.

These failures and rescues were accompanied by extraordinary regulatory actions.

These actions have thrown the US banking system and bank depositors into utter confusion. Are all bank deposits now insured or just the ones Janet Yellen decides are systemically important? Whats the basis for that decision?

The most important question is: Is the crisis over? Has the Fed done enough to reassure depositors that the system is sound? Has the panic subsided?

The answer is no.

The panic is just getting started

We base that answer on the history of the two acute financial crises in recent decades 1998 and 2008.

The 1998 crisis reached the acute stage on 28 September 1998, just before the rescue of LTCM. We were hours away from the sequential shutdown of every stock and bond exchange in the world.

But that crisis began in June 1997 with the devaluation of the Thai baht and massive capital flight from Asia and then Russia. It took 15 months to go from a serious crisis to an existential threat.

Likewise, the 2008 crisis reached the acute stage on 15 September 2008 with the bankruptcy filing of Lehman Brothers.

But that crisis began in the spring of 2007 when HSBC surprised markets with an announcement that mortgage losses h...

UTAS : The road ahead "IndyWatch Feed Tas"

The financial overview in UTASs recently released annual report for the calendar year 2022, although much more extensive than in past years, did little to explain UTASs current financial position.

Detailing what went up and what went down is a mind-numbing exercise, which does little to explain the financial challenges or how we will approach the years ahead as we enter ever more variations of the new normal, as UTAS noted in its report.

At a guess thats PR speak for Were not sure where were going, but well give it a go.

Blessed with gifted land, funded by capital grants for buildings and endowed with bequests and other amounts for education and research purposes, UTAS has gradually built its net assets position.

Apart from capital grants and investment income, UTAS makes losses every year, losses from the core activities of teaching and research, and losses caused by a relentless pattern of what is described as restructuring costs. We arent told what th...

Hackers Have Stolen $30 Billion In Crypto Since 2012, SlowMist Report Finds "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Due to the anonymity cryptocurrencies provide, the crypto industry is known to be targeted by hackers and other malicious players. This has left many wondering just how much digital currency has been pilfered from right under the nose of the industry over the years.

Now, the latest report by blockchain security firm SlowMist seems to have the answer. According to the recently released report, hackers and scammers have made off with a staggering $30 billion in cryptocurrency since 2012.

Details Of The Report

The SlowMist team analyzed 1,101 hacking incidents to determine how much crypto has been stolen to date and how they were stolen. Their findings show that hackers and scammers employ a variety of methods, with the top ones being contract vulnerability attacks, rug pulls, flash loan attacks, scams, leaking of private keys, and good old phishing attacks to gain access to peoples crypto accounts and wallets.

The most lucrative year for malicious players came in 2021 during the extended crypto hype, with over $9.7 billion stolen in 236 attacks.

In total, the amount stolen in the last decade came up to a little over $30 billion. And given that the overall market cap of all cryptocurrencies is now at $1.14 trillion, the amount reported stolen is over 2.5% of the total market cap.

Crypto hacks

Exchanges And Ethereum Ecosystem Hit The Most

Exchanges have always long been a prime target for hackers looking to steal crypto due to their large holdings and the SlowMist report reflects that.

In total, over 118 attacks were carried out on exchanges, resulting in over $10.9 billion being lost. The biggest of these could be traced back to the $534 million lost in the 2018 Japanese exchange Coincheck hack and the 2014 Mt. Gov hack resulting in a loss of over $473 million.

Earth's Jet Streams Look as Chaotic as a Van Gogh Right Now, and That's a Big Problem "IndyWatch Feed Qld"

Earth's Jet Streams Look as Chaotic as a Van Gogh:

The currents of air that wrap around our planet are becoming unrecognizable to climate scientists.

Some have even compared the chaotic pattern of the jet streams to a Van Gogh painting.

The southern part of the jet stream over North America has completely broken apart and is currently trapped in a vicious revolution that has triggered an off-the-chart heatwave.

While it's normal for the air currents to stop, split apart, recombine and flow in opposite directions, on average these tropospheric air streams are typically quite continuous over long distances with an overall west to east flow.

The current fragmentation is unlike anything specialists have seen before.

[...] Jet streams are known to get 'blocked' on occasion, trapping weather systems in certain regions for days on end. But recent evidence suggests climate change could cause more blockages than usual by slowing down jet streams so they break apart, causing chaotic weather on the ground.

That seems to be what's happening right now in North America, and it's not just climate change that's contributing.

Mann explains that El Nio has likely exacerbated the situation, too.

"I'm honestly at a loss to even characterize the current large-scale planetary wave pattern," he tweeted.

Even the average layperson can clearly see the differences when comparing a normal pattern of jet streams to what's occurring today.

[...] In the past, strange jet stream patterns in Earth's atmosphere have coincided with extreme weather events in both the northern and southern hemispheres, although usually not in both at the same time.

Right now, though, even the southern hemisphere's jet streams look out of whack, experts note.

[...] "It is now clear that Earth's climate system is way out of kilter and we should be very concerned," Central Queensland University Environmental Geographist Steve Turton explained for The Conversation.

From pole to pole, the winds of change are here. The climate crisis is no longer a future problem. It's happening now, right before our eyes.

Republicans Are Soooo Over Democracy, Poll Shows "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Republican voters are done with democracy. Almost 4 in 10 of them are extremely dissatisfied with the way democracy is working in the United States, and another 35 percent expressed at least some dissatisfaction with the current system, according to a recent poll.

A mere 19 percent of Republicans answered the question by saying that they are at least somewhat satisfied with US democracy, which is a stunningly low number.

What is even more remarkable is that the views of GOP voters on the issue are deteriorating rapidly. YouGov, which conducted the poll, had asked the same question a year ago, and the results were quite different.

In 2022, Republicans were evenly divided on the question. Since then, their satisfaction with US democracy has cratered.

This could have different reasons.

For one, the Big Lie continues to spread among Republicans. That isnt particularly surprising since the partys standard bearer, former President Donald Trump, remains obsessed with his loss in the 2020 election and continues to spread falsehoods about it.

He has plenty of help. For various reasons, many GOP officials also keep casting doubt on the integrity of American elections. In addition, spreading the Big Lie is where the money is for the various right-wing propaganda outlets and influencers who make their living in the multi-billion-dollar outrage industrial complex.

The Sorry State of the GOPs Performance Artist Caucus

In addition, even though this was never supported by polling, Republican voters were promised a red wave in the 2022 midterm election.

Instead, they barely won the House and, in spite of having a favorable map, could not take over the Senate.

What is interesting about the new poll is that the people who actually have a right to feel at least somewhat dissatisfied about US democracy have the most positive attitudes about it.

Black and young Americans, two voting blocs that Republican-led states are routinely trying to disenfranchise, are the only demographics in which a plurality of people feel at least somewhat satisfied with elec...

Weekend long read "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

1) Globes carries an interview with Dr. Michael Barak of the ICT on the topic why Jenin has become fertile ground for terror.

Since the start of 2023, Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaderships have injected millions of shekels to encourage the continued intensification of terrorism in the Jenin region. []

Although the activity of these two terrorist organizations is international, how have they managed to provide millions of shekels in six months to their operatives in Jenin? The answer begins in Syria and Lebanon. Both Hezbollah and the Assad regime rely on revenue from the export of the psychostimulant drug Captagon.

2) The ITIC reports on a Hamas lawfare campaign.

Al-Jazeera TV reported Israel was being sued in the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for a giant suit of $250 billion by a group of European lawyers. They represent eight members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in the Gaza Strip who initiated the suit for damages resulting from the alleged crimes Israel committed against the residents of Gaza beginning in 2007, especially the damages caused by the siege they claim is imposed by Israel. The amount of the claim is based on a document issued by the UN several years ago claiming the damages to the Gaza Strip between 2008 and 2018 totalled $16.7 billion.

When Will Bitcoin Rocket To The Moon? Price Analysis "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

In the Bitcoin space, one question echoes persistently through the minds of enthusiasts and investors alike: When will Bitcoin rocket to the moon? While no one knows the answer, there are on-chain metrics and historical patterns that can be followed to track down the answer.

Bitcoin Price Analysis: When Will BTC Break Out?

Over the last two weeks, the Bitcoin price has been in a sideways trend. After the Bitcoin bulls were able to turn the tide at $24,900, the price has risen by more than 25%. Since then, however, BTC has been trading in the range between $29.800 and $31.300. Neither bulls nor bears have been able to gain the upper hand and break out of the trading range in higher time frames.

Bitcoin price

The renowned crypto trader and analyst Rekt Capital believes that all it takes is a positive catalyst to current BTC price action. According to him, Bitcoins current sideways trend within a tight range is a mere step away from its ultimate demise. He affirms that a BTC downtrend is only ever one positive catalyst away from ending. And a BTC uptrend is always one negative catalyst from ending, adding:

BTC has performed a bullish Monthly close but is primed for a healthy technical retest at ~$29250. With price currently around $30200 I wonder what negative catalyst will soon emerge to facilitate this technical retest.

On-chain analyst Axel Adler Jr echoes this view and points to BTC total transfer volume as indicator for a massive breakout move. While the exact timing remains elusive, Adler Jr suggests that the moonshot could be triggered by a significant event such as the...

Stop the Great Wall of Frankston - Minister intervenes "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

There is exciting news from Frankston. On Wednesday Victorian Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny announced an Interim Design and Development Overlay which included mandatory height limits of 3 storeys on the section of land between Kananook Creek Boulevard and Nepean Highway. This article is reposted from .

This area has a very sensitive creek interface and is adjacent to the Frankston foreshore. Despite its importance, until now it has had no protection from overdevelopment. Developers have lodged plans for 14, 15, and 16 storey towers! Of course their plan is to build luxury apartments - no risk of any dwellings that a young person on a basic income could live in.

The Stop the Great Wall of Frankston Campaign Committee has done a mighty job in campaigning against high rise development in Frankston's waterfront precinct. It included a Blues Concert last weekend, and a rally back on 13 May at which I was one of the speakers. The rally had an audience of hundreds, and their Petition to stop the Great Wall has attracted over 4000 signatures. , and the Protectors of Public Lands, as well as many local groups and residents, have supported this campaign.

Of course this battle has a long way to go yet, but the Minister has done the right thing, and her intervention deserves our support.

It gives us hope that there is still room for community opinion and action to influence our decision makers.

Grant and Lee on Generalship "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The question as framed is almost silly, but it does get a properly ginned up answer.

And yes, he had a profound strategic sense and made his opponents play to his tune over and over.  He was actually a great ngeneral whose so called mistakes halped.  No one ever thought of attrition as a tactic before this, but he had the numbers and if germaine he used them.

His real genius was sending Sherman into Georgia to completly break the morale of the population to say nothing about making the cockpit about richmond all or nothing.  A retreating confederate army literally had nowhere to go, which is why they delayed as long as they did.

attrition is not inconclusive if your enemy cannot get replacements.  It just takes a nasty spell and time because you still must avoid headon clashes that chew up your men far too fast.

If Ulysses S Grant was a poor general, how did he win so many battles against Robert E. Lee during the American Civil War?

Wishful thinking about nuclear energy wont get us to net zero "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

The climate problem is too serious to engage in unrealistic modelling exercises. Wishful thinking about nuclear energy will only thwart our ability to act meaningfully to lower emissions rapidly.

 BY M.V. RAMANA AND SUSAN ODONNELL | July 3, 2023  https://www.hilltimes.com/story/2023/07/03/wishful-thinking-about-nuclear-energy-wont-get-us-to-net-zero/391721/

On June 20, the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) released its 2023 Canadas Energy Future report, developing scenarios for a path to net zero by 2050. These scenarios project roughly a tripling of nuclear energy generation capacity in Canada by 2050, seemingly reinforcing then-natural resources minister Seamus ORegans statement in 2020 that there is no path to net zero without nuclear.

However, underlying both the scenarios and ORegans contention is wishful thinking about the economics of nuclear energy, and how fast nuclear power can be scaled up.

The new nuclear capacity the report envisions consists of so-called small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), which have so far not been built in Canada. Aside from refurbishing existing CANDU reactors, the CER does not think any more standard sized nuclear reactors will be built in Canada. Most of this buildup is to happen between 2035-2050, meaning that nuclear power will not help meet the governments stated goal of decarbonizing the electricity grid by 2035.

But can SMRs be built rapidly after 2035? Only two Crown companies in the business of generating electricity for the grid have proposed to build SMRs: NB Power in New Brunswick, and Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

The reactor designs proposed...

Climate Change Lockdowns Are Coming? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

QUESTION: There has been talk that Trudeau will use the fires to claim a climate crisis, and that will justify lockdowns again. Is there any truth to these rumors?

FS

ANSWER: There is definitely the idea of using climate change to justify lockdowns. However, this is really not for climate change but for crowd control. They are well aware of the rising discontent civilly, which historically produces revolution. They are pushing for world war III for two reasons.

First, it will be the excuse to default on all sovereign debt as they are also attracted to the Schwab-Soros solution of a one-world government. If that is the case, then all previous sovereign debt will be null and void. The United States did that with the debt of the Continental Congress when they created the United States. Thats why you can collect the revolutionary currency that was never honored.

Secondly, they fear revolution is in the w...

PFAS Report puts FDA in Cross-Hairs "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Our report showing supermarket kale to be contaminated with toxic chemicals is getting picked up far and wide. Help us maintain the momentum and call for a ban on toxic PFAS forever chemicals. Action Alert!

Last week, we launched a national campaign on the back of our pilot study showing 7 of 8 supermarket kale samples to be contaminated with PFAS forever chemicals, suggesting much wider contamination of our food supply with these chemicals than the FDA wants to acknowledge. We know PFAS, or polyfluoroalkyl substances, are already being found in alarming amounts in drinking water, in the air, and in thousands of consumer products. We also know that they persist in the environment, accumulate in the human body, and are linked to a host of negative health outcomes. Thats why weve used our pilot study as a springboard to launch a campaign calling for the federal government to issue a ban on the over 12,000 chemicals that fall under the PFAS category.

Our study has already started making waves. It has been picked up by news outlets around the world, including major outlets like The Guardian, The New York Post, and HealthNews. Rob Verkerk, PhDfounder of the Alliance for Natural Health and ANH-USAs Executive and Scientific Director who has headed up the workwas also on Ron Hoffman, MDs Intelligent Medicine podcast to discuss the report. You can find a comprehensive list of media outlets which have covered and discussed our report below.

U.S. regulatory agencies have proven themselves incapable or unwilling to meaningfully address the extensive PFAS contamination. We need to create a groundswell of grassroots support for a ban on PFAS chemicals as soon as possible. Visit the reports landing page to send a message to your state and federal....

Leading US think tank admits Russia unlikely to ever run out of missiles "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

By Drago Bosnic | July 6, 2023

For approximately a year and a half, we have been listening to tall tales about Russia running out of munitions of various kinds due to its supposed inability to produce advanced weapons, particularly long-range missiles and other sorts of PGMs (precision-guided munitions). According to mainstream propaganda, Moscow is allegedly so desperate that it had to arm its soldiers with shovels and resort to the expropriation of washing machines, smartphones, laptops and other devices that contain microchips in order to maintain production. Such ludicrous claims would never be accepted by anyone remotely familiar with how advanced military technologies work.

However, they are an important segment of the rabidly Russophobic infowar that aims to present the Eurasian giant as supposedly technologically backward. And yet,  after Moscows long-range and tactical aviation, as well as naval and ground-based units, spent the entire special military operation (SMO) launching high-precision strikes by using advanced PGMs that quite literally nobody else has (the United States included), the mainstream propaganda machine simply had to admit something was seriously off with their assessment of Russias technological and industrial capacity. The latter should have been destroyed by Western sanctions close to a year and a half ago.

And yet, its still standing. The answer as to why this is the case was recently given by CSIS (Center for Strategic and International Studies), a Washington DC-based think tank that is among the most prominent ones in the US. According to their assessment, Moscow is extremely unlikely to run out of PGMs and other long-range high-precision weapons, either for itself or its numerous export customers. Somewhat surprisingly, with no ambiguity or sugarcoating, Ian Williams, a Fellow of the International Security Program and Deputy Director of the Missile Defense Project at CSIS, has made it perfectly clear that it would be unrealistic to expect Russia to ever run out of missiles.

The author further notes that Moscow will be able to continue building long-range PGMs, which will enable it to sustain constant long-range strike capability, despite sanctions and export restrictions. And while the CSIS repo...

When the Reptilian Brain Drives the Political Bus "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Five percent of the people think; 10 percent of the people think they think; and the other 85 percent would rather die than think. Thomas A. Edison

The constant obsessing with Hunter Biden as if this man matters, given the very real threats our society faces what is that actually about? Well, more than mere tribalism or confirmation bias on the right. Its symptomatic of a deeper and broader illness.

To be sure, those who condemn Hunter Bidens behavior (and allege special treatment) seem to ignore the financial corruption, debauchery, and far worse by a legion of right-wing leaders, movement heroes, pastors, etc. where no accountability is typically the rule, not the exception. Including the children of the immediate past president, to say nothing of the former guy himself. As someone tweeted in response to a posting I did on Hunter derangement:

Hunter has never been in politics. Ivanka and Jared made 300+ million in salary as advisors not to mention 2 billion from the Saudis and why no one is investigating that is beyond me.

So, why make so much of Hunters offenses, which are really inconsequential in the greater scheme of things, and ever so slight in comparison with the monumental outrages of so many right-wingers?

What Lies Beneath

To find the answer to this mystery, we need to lift the lid on the human skull and have a look at the wiring inside. By wiring I refer to a specific feature of anatomy that may provide at least part of the explanation: the reptilian brain. Carl Sagan described it well:

Deep inside the skull of every one of us there is something like a brain of a crocodile which evolved tens of millions of years ago. It is a major source of our moods and emotions. On the outside, living in uneasy truce with the more primitive brains beneath, is the cerebral cortex [that part of the brain that thinks rationally]; civilization is a product of the cerebral cortex.

So, our civilized selves live in uneasy truce with our more primitive selves, an internal battle within each of us.

Our civilized selves evaluate the nuances and complexity of issues, and are comfortable with the uncertainties inherent in this rational process.

On the other hand, our primitive selves crav........

Is Fast Fashion Making Us Sick? "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

On a recent spring afternoon, journalist Alden Wicker was examining a neon orange purse at H&M. The price tag read $14.99, but instead of listing materials, it simply said vegan. She raised an eyebrow. At Wickers request, a store clerk looked up the materials: polyurethane and polyester. Plastics.

For the last decade, Wicker has been covering the dirty side of fast fashion from its contribution to the climate crisis and greenwashing to multi-level marketing schemes. She founded the popular blog EcoCult in 2013 and has become an authority on sustainable fashion.

Wickers new book, To Dye For: How Toxic Fashion Is Making Us Sick, examines the public health impacts of chemically-treated fabrics and synthetic fibers. She spent two years interviewing.

She found that fashion is rife with toxic chemicals, like formaldehyde and chromium, which are both carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting polyfluoroalkyl substances (also known as PFAS, or forever chemicals), linked to infertility and other health issues. And despite the potential harm, she discovered that the US has done little to protect consumers from the clothes they wear.

Were allowing chemicals to be poured indiscriminately into the environment, but were also bringing them into our homes, Wicker said. The effects of these chemicals on te..........

Our long slide toward economic oblivion continues, and survey after survey has shown that most Americans are deeply unsatisfied with the current state of the U.S. economy. Inflation is out of control, most Americans are getting poorer due to the rapidly rising cost of living, the housing bubble has started to burst, and the commercial real estate market is a giant mess. But employment is supposed to be our bright spot. The Biden administration continues to tell us that the unemployment rate is less than 4 percent and that there are lot of jobs available for those that want them. But is this really true? To answer that question, it is imperative to understand that our government places unemployed persons into one of two categories... Jobless people are classified into one of two categories by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) either unemployed or not in the labor force. To be classified as unemployed in the month they are surveyed, people must be actively looking for work. If...

Stop Buying Their Crap! - #SolutionsWatch "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Boycotting evil companies and institutions isn't a new idea, of course, but as you may or may not have noticed, the idea has come back to the forefront of the public consciousness in recent months. Today, James explores the boycott solution, examines their effectiveness and ponders how they can be used to go beyond the divide-and-conquer culture wars and hit the oligarchs where it really counts.

10 million users joined Metas Threads in just 7 hours. It took Twitter 780 days to do that "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Metas Twitter-like platform, which is tied to Instagram and already has a separate app, saw millions of signups in a few hours, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

While its too early to call ThreadsMetas new microblogging platforma bona fide Twitter killer, Mark Zuckerbergs answer to Elon Musks flailing social network is off to a good start. Zuckerberg took to the new platform to announce that within the first four hours of its launch, five million users had already signed up to Threads. That number doubled to 10 million users just three hours later.

When it comes to making EVs sound good from the inside, Boses Rashaan Josey is all ears "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Its amazing what you can hear once you remove the engine. Josey is working to optimize the good sounds, and eliminate the annoying ones.

What does your car sound like? And what should it sound like? These are the questions Rashaan Josey is working hard to answer. Josey oversees a division at the audio giant Bose (the company is based in Boston, though Josey is near Detroit) that is developing new ways to achieve the ideal in-cabin sound environment in the age of EVs, which are forecast to account for half of all car sales by 2035.

It Is a Horror Show Glueboard That Traps Stupid People by Masquerading as What It Is Not What It Is Not. "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Smoking Mirrors July 5, 2023

God Poet Transmitting.

One of the basic features of Nature is camouflage. Sometimes it is there to attract prey, and sometimes it is there for concealment from the predator. Other times it is an aspect of the mating dance. All of this translates into the human theater because the dramas that dance there in physical form are a part of Nature in camouflage too.

Its not just your body that is a prisoner of Nature. The Mind and The Emotions the senses, and your sense of self as expressed through The Personality are also a part of Nature. Nature has a number of ways to bind you. I heard there were 8 but Im not a numbers guy. I also heard there is only one way in which Lady Nature a conscious entity frees you or provides what is called Moksha.

Terms terms terms; what did Lao Tzu say? Terms may be used but none of them are absolute.

Nature is a non-stop endlessly whirling confusion of colors and sounds tactile impressions smells that go directly to the brain, which is where the smell test comes from, and which has to do with smell as a form of higher perception having nothing to do with physical odors. Yes many things that you cant see are still part of Nature.

Its safe to say that just about everything you can think of is a part of Nature, including the facility that does the thinking. You might well ask; what else is there? I would answer that but its not germane to todays posting which has to do with Communism.

Communism is the form of government that exists in Hellish Circumstances. Communism is a form of camouflage that presents itself as something it is not for purposes other than what it advertises. It is a system of lies and double-speak Catch-22s whose intentions are bondage and control. It is a system where the individual has no rights and no courts of appeal.

It is a system of No Exit except for Death. It is a horror show glueboard that attracts stupid people by masquerading as what it is not what it is not what it is not.

It is what Diversity Equity and Inclusion are all about. It is the brainchild of a certain group of people who demonstrated in a gruesome and protracted fashion all you ever need to know about Communism. They did this in the former Soviet Socialist Republic. They did and are doing it in China. They did it in Cambodia. There is no positive example of it except in small controlled and temporary examples here and there now and again.

Communes are Communist experiments, and their success depends entirely on the nature and intentions of the people involved. Sometime...

Scott Ritter: Biden's 3AM moment in Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

In June, Biden was confronted with the ultimate "3 a.m. phone call" moment. He could have made a call which would have helped reduce the threat of a nuclear crisis or worse. During the 2008 Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton ran an ad which sought to diminish her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Barack Obama, in the eyes of the voters. Building upon Obama's lack of experience in national security affairs, and what the potential cost would be should Obama falter at a critical moment, Clinton's ad sought to make the question personal, setting a scene that could be any home in suburban America at night. "It's 3 a.m. and your children are safe and asleep, but there's a phone in the White House and it's ringing. Somethings happening in the world." The listener was then challenged to decide who was best to answer the call, concluding that the best choice would be someone already "tested and ready to lead in a dangerous world." It's 3 a.m., the narrator asks, "Who do you...

Will The Dead Finally Speak? : The victims of Francos fascist regime are being uncovered "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Vice News produced this report on the mass murders perpetrated by Francisco Franco during his 36 year fascist regime.  He was so blatant in his crimes, so unabashedly unashamed of them, that many of the victims were buried within the communities where they lived.  They were murdered, and their families forced to live with their relatives bodies under their own feet for fifty years.

And this video only deals with the mass graves of 100,000 bodies.  It doesnt touch on the estimated 300,000 stolen children, either victims of the dead or kidnapped by the catholic cult which was complicit in the regimes crimes.  Civil war?  There was nothing civil about it.

Like many other countries, neofascism is on the rise in Spain.  The leader of Spains fascist movement (in the video below) engages in historical revisionism, denying that the mass murdered victims even existed.  But Spain has two key differences from most countries where ignorant and racist rightwing populism took hold: a popular and competent socialist government, and the republican families of the disappeared, millions who know about and remember the crimes of the regime.

Unlike Germany or the US where fascist extremism was hidden from view for decades, Spains fascists have still been there since the 1970s.  The question is whether they can attract enough mainstream support, or whether Spains populace retains its long memory as the dead are being recovered and families may finally get answers and bury their relatives properly.

Spains Far-Right Resurgence Comes From Decades of Fascist Organizing

In Spains last general election in 2019, the far right achieved its best ever result. With 3.7 million votes (15 percent) and fifty-two seats, Vox...

Western media prepping nuclear false flag... and thermonuclear war "IndyWatch Feed Nsw"

Western media are conditioning the public for a false-flag attack on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP) to blame Russia. That would then provide the United States and NATO a pretext to directly intervene in their proxy war to support the Kiev regime. The Kiev regime's month-old counteroffensive is failing miserably to push back Russian defense lines. Indeed, if anything, it seems that Russian forces are turning the tables to gain more territory in eastern Ukraine. The military situation is becoming a fiasco for the NATO-backed regime in Kiev. Months of much-hyped counteroffensive are delivering nothing but defeat for the Ukrainian forces despite massive supplies of weapons from the U.S. and its NATO allies. Western governments and media can barely hide the reality that NATO's proxy war in Ukraine against Russia is turning into a historic debacle. How long can the charade continue before the American and European public demand answers and accountability? With a major NATO...
