Was kann ICH eigentlich fr die ffentliche Sicherheit ... "IndyWatch Feed Europe"

Was kann ICH eigentlich fr die ffentliche Sicherheit tun?

Das fragt ihr euch doch auch, oder?

Nun, hier ist eine kurze Durchsage des Premierministers von Australien dazu:

JOURNALIST: In your experience, do you think that Australians understand the challenges we really face when it comes to cyber security?

[...]PRIME MINISTER: [...] We need to mobilise the private sector, we need to mobilise as well consumers. We all have a responsibility. Simple things, turn your phone off every night for five minutes. For people watching this, do that every 24 hours, do it while youre brushing your teeth or whatever youre doing.

Gut, dass wir das mal geklrt haben.

Wisst ihr was?

Another Mad Monk: Outside The AUKUS Echo Chamber New Matilda

Skulking around underwater in wildly overpriced (and thus far imaginary) submarines is unlikely to persuade China to be reasonable and see things our way. Defence experts Mark Beeson and Vince Scappatura weigh in on the ongoing AUKUS debacle, and the latest Chicken-Little-sky-is-falling-in editorial crusade from the Murdoch press.

The Albanese government has committed Australia to the most expensive defence procurement in the countrys history. They are being offered enthusiastic support in this by the Coalition; unsurprising given that the purchase of nuclear-powered submarines and the creation of the AUKUS alliance were largely the Morrison governments initiatives.

This rare outbreak of bipartisanship and policy agreement is not universally shared, however; not that you would know it if youre unfortunate enough to get your news exclusively from the Murdoch press. As with its view of climate change, there is a consistent editorial line on AUKUS and critical voices are rarely even referred to, let alone heard.

We have personal experience of this having signed an open letter, along with over 100 other academics with expertise in defence and foreign policy, questioning the underlying strategic rationale of both AUKUS and the acquisition of submarines that will cost at least $368 billion, if and when they are ever delivered.

Paul Monk, the self-styled most versatile public intellectual in Australia in our time [Eds note: That is literally the claim Monk makes about himself on his own website while wearing a French beret and a high-neck sweater], was given a platform by The Australian to put us in our place. Needless to say, we havent been offered the right of reply.

Monks central argument, like that of the Albanese government, is that we need the alliance to deter Beijings escalating militarism. In this context, the system of collective security put in place by the US after 1945 has served Asia exceptionally well, Monk claims, as do the policymaking establishments of the US and Australia, of course.

Yet even if we ignore the conflicts in Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan, its plain that the overwhelming military superiority of the United States with or without its allies has conspicuously not deterred China from reassuming what its leaders see as its rightful place at...

Rolfe must answer to coroner in the inquiry into the death of Kumanjayi Walker Media Release Archive | Human Rights Law Centre

Kumanjayi Walkers family are a step closer to the truth behind his death, after the Northern Territory Court of Appeal today dismissed an appeal from Zachary Rolfe said the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA).

The judges decided in favour of NAAJAs legal argument that Rolfe cannot rely on a common law protection known as penalty privilege to dodge accountability and avoid answering questions in the coronial inquest into the death of Kumanjayi Walker.

On 9 November 2019, 19-year-old Warlpiri and Luritja teen Kumanjayi Walker was killed after being shot three times at close range by Zachary Rolfe in his home community of Yuendumu. Constable Rolfe was charged with murder after the shooting but acquitted at trial.

Alongside the family of Kumanjayi Walker, NAAJA appeared in the Court of Appeal. NAAJA successfully argued that in coronial inquests:

 • police officers cannot avoid answering questions for fear that it might expose them to internal disciplinary action; and

 • police officers are not entitled to be granted protection from disciplinary proceedings by the Coroner.

The coronial inquest into Kumanjayi Walkers death commenced back on 5 September 2022 and after many delays is scheduled to continue in October later this year.

Quote from Samara Fernandez-Brown, cousin of Kumanjayi Walker:
Although we are frustrated with the constant disruptions in our journey for answers and justice, we are happy with the decision made by the Court of Appeal. We believe in order to gain the truth about our loved ones death and move towards change, Rolfe must answer for his actions. There is no moving forward or justice without the full truth and accountability.

Quote from Nick Espie, Principal Legal Officer at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA):
NAAJA welcomes this decision by the Court of Appeal, which is an important step towards holding police accountable for the deaths of Aboriginal people in their custody.

Kumanjayi Walkers families and communities searching for answers deserve to know the full truth as to how their loved one died. This decision means they are one step closer. The coronial process can now hear all relevant evidence and also consider community-led solutions for how to prevent future deaths in custody.

We stand with the family and community of Kumanjayi Walker, as they demand truth, accountability and justice through the coronial process.

RISINGs Euphoria and anti-capitalism as spectacle Overland literary journal

Whom is Euphoria made for? I cannot imagine that many members of the marginalised classes represented on screen would find much succour in its inconclusive wheel-spinning, or that a viewer with serious socialist leanings would see much political utility in it. This is an evasively anti-capitalist piece that neither radicalises nor galvanises, and holds nothing and nobody to account.

United Nations investigation highlights cruel treatment of prisoners still in Guantanamo The Pen

Contributed from Victoria

A United Nations investigator, with a background in the Irish legal system has released a report that calls for proper treatment of prisoners still being held in the Guantanamo detention centre. Headed by Irish law expert Professor Fionnuala N Aolin, a team visited the prison where 30 men continue to be incarcerated without any date for release.

The now released 23 page report to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) says that these men have been subjected to ongoing cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment under international law. They have also been held without charge or trial for more than 25 years.

Professor Fionnuala N Aolin speaking on the Guantanamo report

The report was the result of direct investigation and speaking with the inmates.

I observed that after two decades of custody, the suffering of those detained is profound, and its ongoing, N Aolin said.

Details on the violation of international human rights law are in the report, and this includes but is not limited to the use of torture to extract information.

Professor N Aolin said there is evidence of deep psychological harm and distress including profound anxiety, helplessness, hopelessness, stress and depression, and dependency, and the care and facilities are not adequate to meet the complex and urgent mental and physical health issues of detainees which range from traumatic brain injuries to issues with bodily functions.

Although the firs such visit allowed, it remained conditional. Consequently, it was supportive of the Biden administration, despite to continuing imprisonment, The focus was on praising some minor changes, which were called significant improvements. The report did not question long-term detention without charg...

Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie- Hide your Magic! ~ The Art Of Change ~ with Carol Omer ~

Both Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie were popular television programs in the 1960s that revolved around the lives of magical women who concealed their powers to conform to societal expectations and maintain harmonious relationships with their male counterparts. While these shows featured female protagonists with supernatural abilities, they ultimately reinforced traditional gender roles and presented a narrative where women subjugated their power to their husbands or masters.

In Bewitched, the main character, Samantha Stephens, is a witch who marries a mortal man, Darrin. Samantha possesses extraordinary magical abilities but agrees to live as a normal housewife, concealing her powers to avoid conflict in her marriage. The show frequently depicted Samantha using her magic to solve everyday problems discreetly, often with comedic effect. However, her magical abilities were consistently presented as secondary to Darrins desires and wishes. Despite Samanthas intelligence and capability, she often deferred to Darrins decisions and allowed him to take the lead, reinforcing the idea that women should prioritize their husbands happiness and desires over their own.

Similarly, I Dream of Jeannie centered around the character of Jeannie, a beautiful and powerful genie who falls in love with an astronaut named Tony Nelson. Jeannie, like Samantha, possesses incredible magical abilities that could have easily solved any problem. However, she willingly suppresses her powers and subjugates herself to Tonys desires. Jeannies role is largely defined by her desire to please Tony and make him happy, often to the detriment of her own agency and independence.

Both shows can be seen as examples of how female characters with immense power were portrayed in a way that reinforced traditional gender roles and societal expectations. Instead of embracing and celebrating their strength and magic, the female protagonists chose to hide their true selves and subjugate their power to their male partners. These narratives perpetuated the idea that womens strength and magic should be secondary to mens desires and aspirations, playing into gender stereotypes that portrayed men as superior and women as submissive.

Its important to note that these shows were products of their time and reflected the social and cultural attitudes prevalent in the 1960s. While they might not be considered feminist representations of womens strength and empowerment by todays standards, they still hold cultural significance and provide insight into the historical context of womens roles in media during that era

Report Release: Why is PFAS in My Kale? "IndyWatch Feed Health"

The federal government doesnt seem to think PFAS contamination of our food supply is a concern, but independent testing from ANH-USA tells a different story. We need to act now to ban PFAS. Action Alert!

Independent testing conducted by ANH-USA has found kale samples purchased at grocery stores across the US to be contaminated with dangerous PFAS chemicals. ANHs report builds on an increasing body of evidence telling us that the pervasive contamination of our world with PFAS chemicals is producing a public health disaster. The EPA and the FDA have demonstrated that they are not responding with the kind of urgency that is required to deal with this public health nightmare. We must act now to ban these chemicals.

For some time now, weve been sounding the alarm about the extensive contamination of the environment with PFAS chemicals and what that means for human health. PFAS, or polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a group of chemicals used in hundreds of consumer products. They are nicknamed forever chemicals because they do not break down in the environment and accumulate in blood and organs.

Up until the last few years, we thought PFAS was a contained problem you could protect yourself from by avoiding things like nonstick pans, fast food packaging, and microwaved popcorn. But in 2019, the FDA began very limited testing of PFAS in common U.S. food items and found what we believe are alarming levels of PFAS in certain seafood.

This led our staff at ANH to wonder: Are Americans really being told the truth about our levels of PFAS exposure is food?

We decided to test this question with a pilot study that found shocking results. ANH staff purchased organic and conventional kale from local grocery stores in New York (Stop & Shop), Pennsylvania (Weis), Georgia (Publix), and Arizona (Whole Foods). If PFAS were found in kale, one of the healthiest options available at the store, we would have a clear indication of the extent of PFAS contamination in our food supply.

We sent our local grocery store kale to be tested for PFAS, hoping to confirm what the...

Supporting US proxies not in Australias national interests "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Lucas Leiroz | June 27, 2023

Pro-Western countries continue to join the irresponsible wave of arming Ukraine. On June 26, the Australian government announced a new package of military aid to the Kiev regime, showing the countrys real willingness to follow NATOs guidelines against Russia. The measure does not serve Australias actual interests but reflects the submissive status of the local government to Western partners.

The Australian Government will provide a new $110 million assistance package to Ukraine () This package responds to Ukraines requests for vehicles and ammunition () In addition, Australia will extend duty-free access for goods imported from Ukraine for a further 12 months, an Australian governments statement reads.

The mentioned value of 110 million AUD is equivalent to around 74 million dollars. Among the equipment supplied, there are 70 military vehicles, including: 28 M113 armored vehicles, 14 special operations vehicles, 28 MAN 40M medium trucks and 14 trailers, and 105mm artillery ammunition.

With this, Australian spending on aid to Ukraine amounts to 790 million dollars US$ 610 million of which are specifically used for military assistance. While this spending is considerably less than that made by the US and other NATOs powers, the numbers remain surprising given that, unlike its Western partners, Australia is not a key military power and has a smaller defense budget.

In fact, helping Ukraine is absolutely irrational for a country like Australia. Washington has a clear interest in attacking Russia, which shows the reasons for helping Kiev. In the same sense, although supporting the regime is not strategically beneficial for Europeans, these states can at least use as a justification some concern with the stability of continental security, fearing an expansion of the Russian operation.

But as far as Australia is concerned, there is no possible justification. The country has no reason to follow a foreign policy of aggression against Russia, nor is it geographically located on the Eurasian continent to fear that the conflict will physically affect it. Canberra is helping Kiev just because it is committed to Western geopolitical interests, even if these interests are not shared by the Australian people.

In addition, it is necessary to remember that Ukraine is not the only US proxy that Au...

How High Can Bitcoin Price Rise Due To Spot ETFs? Running The Numbers "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"

The recent Bitcoin rally has led to speculation that the price could rise further with the introduction of spot ETFs. The arrival of ETFs, especially from reputable companies such as BlackRock and Fidelity, could boost institutional investor confidence and lead to a surge in the Bitcoin price. The one million dollar question, however, is: how high? Clues to answering this question can come from various metrics and data.

One such data point was provided yesterday by CoinShares Chief Strategy Officer Meltem Demirors via Twitter. As she writes, the Bitcoin spot ETF news is not the only story. Many of the largest financial institutions in the US are currently actively working to provide access to BTC and more. In total, there are more than $27 trillion in client assets waiting on the sidelines.

Bitcoin AUM of institutions

With BlackRock, the worlds largest asset manager has filed a Bitcoin ETF application. Rumour has it that the worlds number three, Fidelity Investments, is also flirting with a Bitcoin ETF. Bitcoin ETF applications from Invesco and WisdomTree (both top 10 ETFs) are a fact.

How High Can Bitcoin Rise? All-Time High? Quadruple?

If just a fraction of the $27 trillion in client money managed by the largest asset managers were to go into Bitcoin spot ETFs, the impact on price would be gigantic. Just 1% would amount to over $270 billion (rather more because not all Bitcoin ETF applicants are included in the chart). In comparison, the Bitcoin market cap is currently $590 billion.

As NewsBTC reported two weeks ago, the performance of the gold price after the first gold ETF in November 2004 could also be a metric that provides a glimpse into the future. The launch of the first gold ETFs led to a fabulous gold rally. While the price of gold was still at $400 at the time of approval, it reached $600 in 2006 and $800 in 2008. Seven years after approval, in 2011, gold reached its preliminary high of almost $2,000 (+359%).

James "Jim" T. Westwood - some information about his crash retrieval program research Unidentified Aerial Phenomena - scientific research

Introduction

With all the current information flow about the phenomena, Jacques Vallee's book "Forbidden Science: Volume Five," slipped by relatively unreported and unanalysed by the UAP community. The only concerted area of comment on FS5, was in relation to what Vallee had to say about the Wilson/Davis notes.

Upon reading FS5 when it was first published, I noticed that there were entries referring to the investigation of one James T. Westwood; specifically into crash retrievals and reverse-engineering programs. In the light of recent clues by David Grusch and others, coming forward to relate their individual knowledge of such things, I thought it worthwhile to review what Vallee's diary entries, and others, had to say about the work of James T. Westwood. Below, is what I found.

1970-1988

In the timeframe 1970 to 1988, Lieutenant Commander James T. Westwood, U.S. Navy, wrote numerous articles for the U.S. "Naval War College Review," with titles such as "The Barometer" (1970); "Set & Drift: A Contemporary Political Dillema:The Impact of Intelligence Operations" (1977); "Soviet Naval Strategy: 1968-1978: A Reexamination" (1978); during which he became a specialist concerning the navy of the Soviet Union. Wage Theft From Disability Workers Rampant In The NDIS, Union Says New Matilda

A prominent union says that wage theft and fraud within the National Disability Insurance Scheme is so widespread that it could be described as a standard business model for many providers.

So far this month, the Australian Services Union NSW & ACT (ASU) has referred two providers to the NDIS Commission, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), and the Fair Work Ombudsman for alleged wage theft and fraud, and its actively investigating more than 30 additional providers in NSW alone.

The ASU says the wage theft is so blatant that the NDIAs own wage benchmarking report from 2021 and 2022 shows 10 percent of providers are self-reporting that they are underpaying disability support workers.

ASU NSW & ACT Secretary Angus McFarland said wage theft in the disability support sector was rampant.

Its bad for workers and is ripping off people with disability at the same time, Mr McFarland said. Wage theft undermines efforts to attract and retain workers in an industry plagued by high staff turnover. Without a robust workforce, NDIS participants are left without the vital support they need.

Secretary of the Australian Services Union ACT & NSW, Angus McFarland.

Its criminal to underpay staff its even worse during a cost of living crisis. Next month, disability support workers on minimum award wages will be entitled to a 5.75 per cent pay rise thanks to the Fair Work Commission. I question whether the full benefit will be passed on to all workers if greedy providers continue underpaying our essential workers.

Ripping off workers: Four case studies

Profits Not Labour Costs Are Driving Inflation: The Australia Institute Was Right New Matilda

Mortgage holders were dealt another blow recently when the Reserve Bank of Australia increased interest rates by 25 basis points, to an 11-year high. In response, the satirical online publication The Shovel quipped, RBA cleverly responds to business-driven inflation by increasing struggling familys mortgage by $150 a month.

It continued: When big businesses are pushing up prices and announcing record profits, the best way to respond is to push Julie and Trevor Smith from Werribee to the brink of bankruptcy.

Amusing, at least upon first reading. But it hits a little too close to home for hundreds of thousands of working people who get by paycheck to paycheck. New data shows prices rose 6.8 per cent for the year to April, well outside of the RBAs target band of two to three per cent. Housing is increasingly unaffordable in most of the major cities. Food costs have risen by nearly eight per cent, and if you drive to work good luck at the bowser.

But who should we blame for the current inflation crunch? The business lobby has been telling us that its a multifaceted problem driven by a mix of supply shock and demand-side pressures.

Yes, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has resulted in escalating fuel and agricultural prices. And a combination of natural disasters and delays in transporting goods and services have caused prices to rise globally. In addition, the aptly dubbed wage-price spiral theory has roared back into vogue; according to the Chamber of Commerce, a 5.75 per cent pay rise granted from July 1st to the lowest paid workers consigns Australia to high inflation.

Yet theres growing evidence to suggest that strategically inflated prices in other terms, corporate profiteering or price gouging is a leading cause of high inflation.

Research published by Dr Jim Stanford from the Australia Institute, and cited by New Matilda, notes that corporate profits, not wages, are a major driver of the countrys high inflation.

The progressive think tank argues that business profits account for 69 per cent of inflation above the RBAs target band, calling it a profit-price spiral. And the figures are telling earnings results posted by supermarkets, mining and energy companies, banks, and the national airline are skyrocketing.

In total, Stanford identified that to the September...

The Prestige of Power And Its Loss "IndyWatch Feed Asia"

You cannot go to war against a clown and lose. There is no coming back for Russia after that. Mass unemployment and runaway inflation, civil war, economic depression, state collapse, all those tragedies a nation can overcome in time, but not that. Putin needs to wrap this up quickly, before the clown can have his last laugh.

An excerpt from, "The Meaning of Prestige" By Harold Nicolson, The Atlantic, July 1937:

The cynic at this stage will exclaim: But you are raising a false issue. It is obvious, and Hitler and Mussolini have proved it, that prestige is based upon power alone. However high may be your reputation, unless you also possess power you have no prestige. Conversely, however low your reputation may be, so long as you have sufficient power, then prestige follows inevitably. In fact power and prestige are synonymous terms.

The answer to that assertion is that power and prestige are not synonymous, since, although you cannot acquire prestige without power, yet you cannot retain prestige without reputation. Moreover, a prestige which contains a high percentage of reputation is able to withstand a loss of power; whereas even a temporary decline in power will destroy a prestige which is devoid of reputation. For instance, at the time of the Abyssinian episode, we exposed to the world a flagrant decline in our power, yet our prestige (much to our surprise) remained almost undamaged; whereas it is inconceivable that any State whose prestige was based on power alone could have survived a similar discomfiture. Again, we maintain our rule over subject peoples not by the employment of power so much as by the general confidence inspired by reputation. The problem is not, therefore, one of power alone; it is a problem of the proportions in which power and reputation should be mixed.

. . .

Let me take another and more recent instance. On January 1, 1907, Sir Eyre Crowe, at that time head of the Western Department of the Foreign Office, wrote a memorandum regarding the foundations of B...

Push For First Nations Childrens Commissioner Grows, With Prominent NZ Visit New Matilda

New Zealands Childrens Commissioner will visit Darwin later this year amid a growing push for Australia to appoint its own Commissioner to oversee the welfare of, and government interactions with, Australias First Nations children.

SNAICC23 the 10th National Conference for the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care will be held in Darwin in early September. Its by far the largest event of its kind on the annual calendar, with more than 1,000 people expected to attend.

One of those will be Judge Frances Eivers, a Ngti Maniapoto woman from Waikato and a passionate advocate for First Nations children.

A former family court judge and criminal lawyer, Judge Eivers has held the role of New Zealands Childrens Commissioner since November 2021. She believes it is important to have powerful champions for Indigenous children and has been outspoken about closing care and protection units and improving conditions for children in care.

My vision as Childrens Commissioner has always been kia kuru pounamu te rongo that all children live their best lives, Judge Eivers said. Im sure thats a vision that all Indigenous people aspire to, and I look forward to sharing some of the ways I have advocated for our mokopuna in Aotearoa.

Im especially interested to learn more about the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people and the call for a First Nations Commissioner to serve them.

This has been about calling for Mori approaches to caring for children, within the context of their close and wider family groups. Integral to this work is listening to and amplifying the voices of young people.

Judge Eivers has served as Childrens Commissioner of New Zealand since 2021. From July 1, the model expands to include a Board of up to six Commissioners, on which Judge Eivers will serve. Before being appointed Commissioner, she was a Judge in the District Court in Manukau, working extensively with mokopuna (children) in the court system. Judge Eivers has worked as a lawyer in Auckland, Whakatne, London and Tauranga.

Chair of SNAICC and prominent human rights advocate, Muriel Bamblett.

SNAICC Chairperson, Muriel Bamblett said New Zealands experience had a great deal of relevance to Australia.

Most of Australia is not happy with the nations direction The Pen

Contributed by Jim Hayes

The latest Guardian Essential poll pinpointed some telling truths about how Australians feel about where Australia is heading and how our political leaders are responding to the challenges of the day. This is just one poll, of course, and one poll can never tell the whole truth.

But this one does make sense. It represents what many polls have been saying and other evidence is backing. What is notable about this poll, is the extent to which the alienation of our political leaders from society stands now.

Being the Prime Minister, means that Anthony Albanese has seen his approval fall to the lowest point since the 2022 election. The opinion is that he is not doing enough to tackle the high cost of rentals (68 percent), and especially the overall rising cost of living (75 percent).

About Australia not going in the right direction overall. Well, the poll shows that the opinion of 47 percent of Australia believes this is the wrong one. Another 21 percent are unsure. Only 38 percent believe the direction is the right one. This is important. It tells us that Australia is pessimistic about the future.

Remembering that towards the end of the Morrison government, 40 percent believed Australia was then heading in the right direction puts the present situation into some context. The number was a low number then and it is even lower today.

Add to this that majority (51 percent) now believes that not enough is being done about the environment. Preoccupation with concern over bread-and-butter economic issues hasnt sent this in the other direction.

Labor is in the firing line by virtue of being in government. they are perceived as failing to deliver enough on what the community expected. This is cold comfort for the Coalition. Their leader, Peter Dutton, remains somewhat more unpopular, with only 27 percent seeing him in a positive light.

But over focus on personalities, and even political parties, detracts from hat is even more important. Australia is losing faith in the whole set up. This poll and other evidenceshows the younger the person, the more likely he or she will feel alienated.

The Essential Poll does not try to explain why Australia feels the way, and consequently it avoids some critical matters. especially that the institutions that our political leaders operate in do does not meet the needs of the day. Chief...

Major Breakthrough: How Botox enters brain cells, a discovery that could save lives "IndyWatch Feed Health"

A groundbreaking study led by distinguished researchers from the University of Queensland has unveiled new insights about the complex mechanism through which Botox infiltrates brain cells. The profound findings, published in The EMBO Journal, are set to have a substantial impact on the medical and cosmetic industries and potentially pioneer new treatments for botulism.

Botox: A Multifaceted Tool from Bacterial Origins to Beauty Regimes

The team spearheaded by Professor Frederic Meunier and Dr. Merja Joensuu from the Queensland Brain Institute at the University of Queensland, successfully pinpointed the specific molecular pathway through which the botulinum neurotoxin type-A, popularly known as Botox, infiltrates neurons.

A compound released by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, Botox has a long and intriguing history. Its initial medical application was in the treatment of strabismus, a condition characterized by misalignment of the eyes. Over time, its therapeutic applications expanded to include treatments for spasms, migraines, and even excessive sweating as documented by the Mayo Clinic and Hopkins Medicine.

Interestingly, Botoxs most widely recognized use today is in the cosmetic industry, where its employed to smooth wrinkles and rejuvenate the skin. However, the benefits of Botox go beyond the aesthetic realm. When deployed medically, Botox injections can provide various health benefits, such as:

 • Alleviating chronic migraines: Regular Botox treatments can decrease the frequency of migraine attacks.
 • Reducing hyperhidrosis: Botox can be used to manage excessive sweating.
 • Treating muscle spasticity: Botox injections can relax muscles and improve mobility.
 • Managing eye conditions: Early use of Botox was to address strabismus and blepharospasm (abnormal contraction of the eyelid muscles).
 • Reducing overactive bladder symptoms: Botox has shown positive results in controlling urinary incontinence.

However, despite its numerous benefits, its critical to note that when botulinum toxin is released in large quantities by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, it can cause the potentially lethal disease botulism.

Lightning kills 10 as pre-monsoon rains lash Pakistan "IndyWatch Feed World"

Lightning strikes across Pakistan's eastern Punjab province killed at least 10 people, officials said, as heavy pre-monsoon rains lashed the region. The strikes on Sunday mainly took place in the Sialkot and Sheikhupura districts of Punjab. Lightning strikes are frequent across Pakistan, especially in Punjab's mountainous areas and plains. The Pakistan Meteorological Department said more rains were expected this week, bringing some respite from the ongoing heatwave. The National Disaster Management Authority warned the ongoing rains could trigger flash flooding. Every year, many areas of Pakistan struggle with the annual monsoons, drawing criticism for poor government planning. The season runs from July through September. Last summer, floods triggered by rains killed 1739 people across Pakistan. The deluge displaced about eight million people and caused $US30 billion ($A45 billion) in losses. Report Back from Antifascist Mobilization in Lynnwood, Washington "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

If you thought antifa was gone from Seattle and neighboring communities, you were wrong. On Saturday, June 17th, some 75+ local anarchists and community members convened on the plaza of the Lynnwood Event Center to face off against TERFs and the local III%, a far-Right militia.

A younger, newer organizer first identified the problem when Sovereign Women Speak (SWS) posted a flyer about a protest to support a spa that had been taken to the Seattle District Court and received a ruling denying them the ability to continue its discriminatory practice of refusing access to transwomen. That organizer reached out to other young organizers that had previously organized large and successful marches for trans lives in the last few months. Together, they made contact with various allies and accomplices to coordinate a counter-protest. Social media was blasted with flyers and printouts were posted all over Lynnwood and neighboring area all within about a week. With such short notice, and during Pride month when so many antifascists are committed to supporting non-corporate Pride events to help keep people safe, it was an impressive feat for these young up and comers.

SWS has a sordid local history in the Pacific Northwest, known for their proud trans exclusionist activities and propaganda. This event would not be the first time they actively recruited III% to attend and speak at their rally they did this in Port Townsend last September, too. SWS advocates for trans women to be forced into mens prisons where they face terrible violence, that gender affirming surgery is a myth, that all trans people and drag queens are groomers, and so on. Theyre not the brightest crayons in the box they originally posted a flyer and address for the wrong spa location and had to change it before it gained traction.

Apparently, ASEAN is about to lose one of its most important elements, the Philippines "IndyWatch Feed Asia"

ASEAN is about to lose one the Philippines

Cooperation of Philippines with the USA and its closest Asia-Pacific region allies is rapidly growing.

And just as the international community barely got used to the March news about the number of bases in the Philippines which the USA has access to increasing to nine, as well as about the possibility of Japan and Australia fully joining the military cooperation with the Philippines, on May 31 the Japanese media reported that the defense ministers of Japan, the USA, Australia and the Philippines will hold four-party negotiations at the international forum on security, the Shangri-La Dialogue, scheduled for June 2-4 this year, stressing that the discussion will focus on the problems of regional security and the development of cooperation.

Already on June 1, the Philippine Coast Guard announced the first-ever trilateral exercise to be conducted by the United States, Japan and the Philippines off the coast of the Philippines. The Japanese and the US Coast Guards sent one ship each, and four ships from the Philippines will be involved in the exercise. It is stressed that this exercise, which will include, in particular, maneuvering, operative communication installation, and photographing within scenarios of suspected pirate vessels interception, should allegedly improve coordination between the coastguards of the three states.

These recent developments testify to, so to speak, the success of Washingtons policy, assisted by its allies, on reduction of the influence (or even elimination, in the best case for the United States) of one of the most important organizations for stability in the Asia-Pacific region ASEAN. Obviously the Philippines are no longer a neutral, independent state in the current configuration of its foreign military-political relations as stipulated in the ASEAN basic agreements. In fact the US, with the rise of the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to power in Manila to replace the restive and unyielding Rodrigo Duterte, got and is making the most of the opportunity to restore the Philippines to the role of its closest ally in the region, the way it was d...

Indias maritime security concerns from Cocos Islands to the Coco Islands "IndyWatch Feed Asia"

Indias maritime security concerns from Cocos Islands to the Coco Islands first shown on Taazakhabar News

India's maritime security concerns - from Cocos Islands to the Coco Islands

In this article, an attempt will be made to bring out some salient aspects of the Indian maritime security concerns and the wide swath that it covers from the Cocos Islands of Australia to the Coco Islands of Myanmar.

Cocos Islands of Australia

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands are an Australian external territory in the Indian Ocean, approximately midway between Australia and Sri Lanka and relatively close to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Historically, the islands have been known as the Cocos Islands or the Keeling Islands. The islands are located about 2,770 kilometres northwest of Perth, Western Australia. The largest island in the territory is West Island, located in the South Keeling Atoll. The islands economy is based on tourism, fishing, and coconut production.

India and Australia have a growing strategic relationship, and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands are vital. The islands are in the Indian Ocean, about halfway between India and Australia, about 2591 km from Andamans, and they offer both countries significant strategic advantages. Several shipping lanes pass near the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The most important of these is the Malacca Strait, one of the worlds busiest shipping lanes. The Malacca Strait connects the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, and it is used by ships carryin...

Editor wont investigate data concerns about paper linking anti-prostitution laws to increased rape "IndyWatch Feed Health"

After reading an economics paper that claimed to document an increase in the rate of rape in European countries following the passage of prostitution bans, a data scientist had questions.

The scientist, who wishes to remain anonymous, sent a detailed email to an editor of the Journal of Law and Economics, which had published the paper last November, outlining concerns about the data and methods the authors used.

Among them: the historical rates of rape recorded in the paper did not match the values in the official sources the authors said they used. In other cases, data that were available from the official sources were missing in the paper, the researchers didnt incorporate all the data they had collected into their model, and a variable was coded inconsistently, the data scientist wrote. (Weve made the full critique available here.)

Given the consequences the conclusions of the article could have for people in the sex industry, the data scientist wrote, I hope that someone takes this very seriously and looks into it the [sic] validity of the analysis and the data they used.

In response, Sam Peltzman, an editor of the journal and a professor emeritus of economics at the University of Chicagos Booth School of Business, instructed the data scientist to contact the authors of the article:

The email raises serious questions but without any specific request. Your questions can better be answered by the authors than editors who, as you must know, cannot give each submission the kind of careful attention reflected in your email. Accordingly, we ask that you contact the authors directly if you have not already done so.

If you mean the email as a prologue to a critique, I am happy to discuss our relevant policies or any other question about our editorial process.

The data scientist wrote back with a specific request:

I have just informed you, the editor, that it appears that the authors made an error in at least one of their models that resulted in a substantive differ...

RFK Jr.: Bannon Chaos Candidate Born on Third Base and Now Playing Left Field "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

A recent sequence of events perfectly encapsulates the bizarre, dangerous collisions between anti-science and politics that have become all too frequent in the Trumpocene, and from which Robert F. Kennedy Jr.s controversial presidential run has emerged.

The political scion and notorious anti-vaxxer recently appeared on the conspiracy-friendly Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast to hype his long-shot Democratic presidential candidacy, said to have been encouraged by international anti-democracy activist Steve Bannon

Vaccine scientist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Peter Hotez who has a new book coming out in September titled The Deadly Rise of Anti-Science tweeted a Vice article by Anna Merlan critical of the Rogan episode and of Spotify for continuing to platform vaccine disinformation.

This prompted Rogan to start an online bullying campaign against the vaccine scientist offering $100,000 to the charity of Hotezs choice to debate Kennedy on his podcast, and thereby raise the platform of their debunked conspiracy theories and refused to take no as an answer. Rogans stunt was amplified by Twitter owner Elon Musk (who had previously used the platform to call for Dr. Anthony Faucis ...
