Gunmen Dressed as Police Kill 12 in Honduras | News | teleSUR English: At least three of the five assailants were armed with AK-47s and wore police uniforms and bulletproof vests, according to a police spokesperson. The attack injured three, while two people died at a hospital later in the evening.

The pool hall was controlled by the Barrio 18 gang, according to police. Honduras is one of the world’s deadliest countries due to gang violence.

Four others were killed in the country’s capital on Saturday, and a fifth corpse was found.

The death comes soon after indigenous peoples rights activist Berta Caceres was shot dead in her home in the early hours of Thursday morning after repeatedly receiving death threats as a result of her activism. She lead a resistance movement against unwanted hydroelectric projects in the western Honduran community of Rio Blanco.

The U.S. Accepted 841 In Five Months | ThinkProgress: The Canadian government fulfilled a promise on Monday that it would resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees, just two months later than the originally proposed deadline. The program was launched in November 2015 after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took office and was set to be completed before the turn of the new year. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama vowed to take in 10,000 Syrian refugees for the 2016 fiscal year (which starts in October 2015). Since that date, however, the United States has only accepted 841 Syrian refugees.
