Ethical Guidelines Related to Mental Health Care A.E.Brain

For the record...

Mental health professionals need to be certified or licensed to practice in a given country according to that country’s professional regulations (Fraser, 2009b; Pope & Vasquez, 2011). Professionals must adhere to the ethical codes of their professional licensing or certifying organizations in all of their work with trans- sexual, transgender, and gender-nonconforming clients.
Treatment aimed at trying to change a person’s gender identity and lived gender expression to become more congruent with sex assigned at birth has been attempted in the past (Gelder & Marks, 1969; Greenson, 1964), yet without success, particularly in the long-term (Cohen-Kettenis & Kuiper, 1984; Pauly, 1965).

Such treatment is no longer considered ethical.
If mental health professionals are uncomfortable with, or inexperienced in, working with transsexual, transgender, and gender- nonconforming individuals and their families, they should refer clients to a competent provider or, at minimum, consult with an expert peer. If no local practitioners are available, consultation may be done via telehealth methods, assuming local requirements for distance consultation are met.

The Syrian cables – the killing of innocent people – WikiLeaks – part 3 The Stringer

Mental Health of Transgender Children Who Are Supported in Their Identities A.E.Brain

Mental Health of Transgender Children Who Are Supported in Their Identities Olsen et al Pediatrics March 2016

CONCLUSIONS: Socially transitioned transgender children who are supported in their gender identity have developmentally normative levels of depression and only minimal elevations in anxiety, suggesting that psychopathology is not inevitable within this group. Especially striking is the comparison with reports of children with GID; socially transitioned transgender children have notably lower rates of internalizing psychopathology than previously reported among children with GID living as their natal sex.
It's not GID per se that causes the horrific suicide rates in Trans kids. It's the combination of lack of supportive treatment and persecution - and even kids with a supportive environment havce elevated anxiety about that.

"Bathroom Bills" and other transphobic legislation kills kids. We have the proof of that.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Conference – Black led, Black owned The Stringer

It is an abomination – moral, political and otherwise – when one in three deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 15 to 35 years is a suicide. Suicide is this age group’s leading cause of death. It is an abomination when Australia, one of the world’s elite high income nations, stands idly by […]

Trade rules derail India’s clean energy plan AFTINET

26 February 2016

This week the World Trade Organisation put a road block in the way of India’s efforts to invest in renewable energy while creating jobs for its people.

According to Grist, the WTO dispute panel ruled that aspects of India’s National Solar Mission - which require a proportion of the solar cells to be manufactured in India - were “inconsistent†with international trade norms and therefore prohibited.

This follows last year’s ruling by the WTO against the US' mandatory country of origin meat labelling which decided that such labelling discriminated against imported meat products.

The Australian Government promised to introduce country of origin labelling for imported food products in the wake of the outbreak of hepatitis caused by imported frozen berries. The WTO ruling may make this process more difficult. The TPP has similar rules which could be used against an attempt to introduce country of origin food labelling.

It’s another reminder that trade rules should be designed with the right principles in place - principles based on human rights, labour rights and environmental sustainability.

The war on privacy - Article by Kenneth Eade (We) can do better

Kenneth Eade is a legal thriller writer who chooses difficult and original subjects, of the kind that preoccupy candobetter.net readers and authors. This article foreruns the imminent publication of The Spy Files and is based on Kenneth's research for that novel. See also "Book Review: Kenneth Eade's Thriller faction series highlights GMO industrial politics in US and Ukraine conflict". Candobetter.net Editor.

Privacy today faces threats from an ever-growing surveillance apparatus that is justified in the name of national security or the war on terror. Agencies of the federal government, such as the FBI and the NSA intrude on the communications and activities of private citizens on a regular basis, using data they mine from our private resources to establish watch lists, based on what they perceive to be “suspicious behavior.â€

These watch lists have, among other things, prevented people from entering the country, prevented them from flying on airplanes, barred them from certain jobs, and shut them out of financial accounts.

The founders of our [United States] government designed it to be transparent, so that the governing people could know what the governors were doing. One of the most important methods of making the government transparent, in their minds, was a free press.

The Freedom of Information Act, which was signed into law on July 4, 1966, is a tool which is available to anyone, but it is frequently used by reporters in order to obtain information from the government.

In 2012, Reporter Jason Leopol...

LGBTI versus Christians, an unnecessary war: @burgewords comments on #SafeSchools No Fibs

This is not a suffering competition for martyrs, it’s a legislative process taking place in a secular nation. THE Turnbull government has no firm plans for a public vote on marriage equality.
