The Australian Government continues to rule out commissioning an independent study of the TPP's benefits and costs to Australia, despite calls from community groups representing millions of Australians.

At public hearings in Canberra this week, DFAT officials defended their decision.

Government officials have testified at a public hearing in Canberra that there was no need for the Productivity Commission to scrutinise Australia's biggest ever trade deal - despite it being the kind of job the commission was created to do.
