Hand in hand against the politics of divide-and-conquer | Anarchistische Groep Nijmegen Aboriginal News Group Newswire

Hand in hand against the politics of divide-and-conquer | Anarchistische Groep Nijmegen: Actually, all of the political parties are responsible for the dismantling of the Dutch welfare state and for the fearmongering that is currently taking over public media and opinion. The cheap propaganda against refugees comes from all directions. A classic example is member of parliament Halbe Zijsltra (VVD). He spread the perverse fantasy about refugees who come here to get “eyelid corrections, breast reductions or –enlargements” and “complete teeth renovations” at “our expense”. The hypocrite reaction of fellow politicians who condemned these remarks only following a public outrage speaks for itself. Zijlstra ‘corrected’ himself afterwards, but for how much longer will this still be necessary? He was only one out of many politicians who couldn’t wait to define clear boundaries for the refugees in a “strict but fair” manner. But what are we actually talking about?

Of the North film screening goes ahead despite petition from Inuit against it - Montreal - CBC News Aboriginal News Group Newswire

Of the North film screening goes ahead despite petition from Inuit against it - Montreal - CBC News: Made entirely of amateur footage on YouTube, the film contains scenes of Inuit people appearing drunk and wrestling on the floor.

A petition to have the film's screening cancelled at the Museum of the Moving Image has garnered closed to 1,200 signatures.

"If this film is about Inuit, then why isn't he talking about Inuit? And why isn't he including Inuit in this conversation," asks Stephen Puskas, an Inuk man in Montreal.

The screening went as planned at the museum, but with an acknowledgment that the film's extreme imagery is offensive to some viewers.

Racist tide in the Netherlands encounters opposition Aboriginal News Group Newswire

Racist tide in the Netherlands encounters opposition: [libcom.org] -- The role of Geert Wilders and his Party of Freedom, the PVV, in encouraging this scapegoating of refugees, is absolutely central in what is going on here. This man started out as a right wing liberal, member of the VVD, the right wing liberal party, on and off in government. He split off from the VVD around the issue of allowing Turkey into the EC. Het was strongly opposed, on the grounds of his antipathy for everything Islamic. He built a strong following for himself, and later his PVV, around the issues of Muslim-bashing and by me4ans of feamongering against refugees. Exclusionary proposals, like the idea of a tax on people wearing headscarves and banning the building of mosques, accompanied his rise to fame and infamy. From 9 of the 150 seats in the main chamber of parliament in 2006 he rose to 24 seats in 2010. In that year, a right wing coalition government was formed by the VVD and the CDA Christian Democrats. Wilders' PVV officially tolerated this government, holding it almost to ransom as far as refugee policy was concerned. When thios government decided even stronger budget cuts. Wilders, fearful of losing support because of his accomodation to unpopular austericy policies, blew up the relationship. The government fell, as did Wilders' support, at least for a short period of time. He gained 15 seats in the elections of 2012.

Farmers, survivalists occupy US reserve - Taipei Times Aboriginal News Group Newswire

Farmers, survivalists occupy US reserve - Taipei Times: The group — thought to number up to 100 — on Saturday began occupying the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in southeastern Oregon after a rally in support of ranchers Dwight Hammond, 73, and his son Steven, 46, who were jailed over fires on federal land in the area.

The local sheriff’s department on Sunday said in a statement that the building’s seizure was an effort by the group to instigate a confrontation with authorities.

“These men came to Harney County claiming to be part of militia groups supporting local ranchers, when in reality these men had alternative motives to attempt to overthrow the county and federal government in hopes to spark a movement across the United States,” Harney County Sheriff David Ward said in the statement.

He added that efforts were under way to resolve the standoff “as quickly and peaceful as possible.”

However, there was on Sunday night no visible police presence at the reserve, where several militiamen in vehicles guarded the entrance, while others kept watch from a lookout tower.

IF ‘AKON’ [ONE MAN] CAN PROVIDE ELECTRICITY FOR 600M, THEN WTF HAVE ALL THE CHARITIES BEING DOING? ULTRA KULTURE

AKON United‘I don’t think charities in Africa work’

US-based rap star Akon, and his two co-founders, Thione Niang, a Sengalese political activist and Samba Bathily, a Malian entrepreneur and CEO of the solar energy company Solektra International, believe that what rural African communities need is not overseas charity but affordable renewable energy delivered by fully trained African professionals managing for-profit projects that bring longevity, generate jobs and build new self-sustaining economies. They think this initiative could mark the beginning of an African energy renaissance in which the continent becomes the focal point of a global solar power industry.

“One thing I’ve realised about Africa is that only the organisations that involve Africans themselves are successful. A lot of corporations that come with their own policies and try and implement them in Africa fail horribly. The advantage we had...
